Ganondorf and Zelda are LoZ-icons crucial to the story-line in nearly every major LoZ-game plus are often used in the SSB-series. Dark Link is the final boss in Zelda 2 (right?) and a mini-boss in LoZ:OoT, plus there are a few of them in a flashback during LoZ:TP. Pokemon Trainer Red likely didn't help the lead character of the site's #2 RPG from barely beating Revolver Ocelot. Being blue instead of yellow made a big difference for Sub-Zero and Scorpion. Big Boss got ~37% on Mario this year while Solid Snake probably beats him, and the physical difference is pretty much an eye-patch...and Big Boss has a MUCH bigger role in the MGS-series than Dark Link does in the LoZ-series. He may do better if he went by what MGS3 called him, but we can probably agree he's still not getting that close to Snake and he's had a far bigger role than Dark Link.

I know we discredit voters' ability to think rationally from time to time, but people have the ability to look beyond the name and appearance to recognize characters on their own merits. Dark Link's merits aren't enough to have Ganon/Zelda as his floor. I don't have much faith in him being terribly strong anyway, though. If he's strong, we can go back to how shallow voters can be.

Will Dark Link be able to beat Cloud or Snake or something? No. However, remember that the Zelda fanbase is by the far the least intelligent out of any fanbase. It's not a stretch to see Dark Link beating characters like Auron and Leon Kennedy. Do you really think a result like that is good? It isn't. Dark Link should never be considered it.

Looks like everyone agrees to keep the A-list and nix the E-list. Done and done.

Here's the B-list. Post if you don't think any of these characters deserve to come back next year.

We should probably keep HK-47 out of here. That way, all of the BioWare awesomeness will be absorbed by Commander Shepard.

Also, LOL Revolver Ocelot. He's just gonna get worse and worse now that his story is done.

I'm indifferent on Wesker. His match was Ken was fantastic, and its always fun to quote all his sayings in the stats thread, but I don't know where exactly he is power-wise.

Akuma REALLY needs to stop facing Squall Leonhart one of these days, although he's at Ken Masters level at best.

Zack belongs in A Tier I think, but other than that, it's good. Zack's still the most entertaining newcomer in years.

I don't want to say kick these guys out, but I'd knock 'em down on the priority-o-meter:

Akuma - the more Street Fighter character in the bracket, the less you need him...I'd rather see newcomers, though he's fine if you only have two or maybe three.
Axel - after how Dante beat him and KH looked this year, there should be no easy pass for this guy!
Duke Nukem - love him, but despite Charizard's success and his pic, he still just wasn't as notable this year as he was in four-ways.
GlaDOS - love her, but she'll be more interesting once Portal 2 hits.
HK-47 - now that Darth Revan's shown him up in hindsight, I don't know if he's even needed now.
Laharl - ...take Laharl down a peg or two, really.
Liquid Snake/Revolver/The Boss - having one is a good idea. Having two, while cooler, isn't necessary. All three, while the coolest option available, may keep some other interesting characters out.

I didn't underestimate Charizard! IMHO you all should listen to me on Pokemon god I hate them so much

Darth Revan WAS WHO WE THOUGHT HE WAS and that brings a bitter smile to my face. He's underrated to a decent degree in the stats, too - he faced Terra in her best time and during his worst, then she turned right around and faced Squall in the godawful FF6 day vote.

Zack belongs higher on the list than a large number of your A-listers based on strength alone. He also brings added 'intangibles' to the table on top of that, so, I don't see how he can be below so many A-list guys. A bracket without Zack would definitely bring a "Where's Zack?" reaction.

Strength wise some argument could be made for Akuma, but it would be better to see Vega, Guile or even Blanka. I think most of us would happily toss Akuma out for one of them, just a question of which one.

Yeah, Vega did well in that poll. He doesn't do so hot in general SF-polls, but I think he's worth a shot anyway considering M. Bison's done well before.

For the last time, the list is just an arbitrary measurement used only to group together characters to ease the debate of whether or not to include certain characters in the mock bracket. That is the only reason I made this list, and I have no plans to do anything with these lists after I remove the losers.

If you guys want to mess with these lists after I'm done with them, feel free. But I'm not doing anything with them other than to pick characters for the bracket.

That said, I haven't heard many objections for bringing back this group of characters yet. I think HK-47 is a decent Bioware rep and may end up with more staying power than Shepard. It's either him or Revan, frankly. If you guys want both, fine, but I think we could do with only one KotOR rep. Similar deal with Ken and Akuma, really. I mean, I wouldn't mind bringing back Chun Li or adding another SF character, but I don't think we really need to keep both Ken and Akuma at this point, especially if we decide to include another SF character.

But then, it's up to you guys. But so far I haven't heard much reason to boot any of these guys, so I assume these are all characters that you wouldn't mind returning next year.

I'm behind that Vega nod. I remember he was my favorite SFer back as a kid. Dude's a Spanish bullfighter/ninja assasin, only dude with a weapon in the game, and is so damn arrogant he wears a mask so he doesn't mess up his face. "ONLY HANDSOME FIGHTERS WIN BATTLES *wink*"

What a fantastic character design. Too bad he's like one of the bottom 3 characters in SF4 :/

Then again, so is Dan "the Man" Hibiki, who is super awesome too ^_^

Weird question for you. Will we ever see a broad spectrum character contest (within reason), or are you big on the only-characters-invented-by-games idea? Guys like Batman, Spiderman or Vader could shake things up way down the road.

I doubt this is like 4ways where he always left open an avenue for changing his mind later. Bacon is dead set against broad spectrum contests. Makes sense, but it's a bit disappointing.
