But Alucard finished ahead of Kirby in the stats!!!

Kirby hasn't really risen more than most other Nintendo characters did in 2005. Luigi is the real shining star there (and proved that worth when he beat Kirby soundly).

Pikachu, now that's a rise. But near-elite is still a pretty silly sentiment. Take him over, say, Yoshi at your own peril.

Just a bit over 9000 votes difference for Link/Cloud!Can anyone tell me how many hours Cloud won?And it feels strange after more than 2 months not to see a battle.Plus why so many people don't like joke characters?There were only 3 of them and one was a contest winner!It wasn't like we had a whole division!

Some final thoughts on the contest.

1. Zelda and FF7 characters have clearly lost a step in the contest. Aside from Link's SFF match, most of their matches were rather unimpressive.

2. Charizard is easily the most impressive non-joke newcomer since Vincent, would like to see him taking on near-elites next contest.

3. Sonic started off looking abysmal, redeemed himself a little as he progressed, in the end, he still ended his contest run as "lol Sonic".

4. Cloud winning the board vote decisively against Snake was one of the biggest "WTF" moment.

5. Lightning is going to be a beast next contest. Lightning vs Big Boss(with Naked Snake picture and minor MGS:PW boost) in round 1, "brain hurts" arghhhhhhhhh!!!!!

Looking at Leon's x-stats bracket, god damn does it set up a lot of great matches. I also find it hilarious how it pairs up both Ryu's and both Kratos's in R1.

One match I would be interested in seeing to accurately peg L-Block is Link/L-Block. Unless you guys think the block work well in a different match!

Similarly, I want to see Link/Master Chief for the same reason.

Dr Football Factor'd.

My thoughts on Pikachu from my experience in high school:
Pokemon was hugely popular back in the late nineties, and Pikachu was probably the face of the game and for sure the TV show. If we had a contest in 1998 or so, Pikachu is a NN challenger. Then Pokemon went through a backlash stage, and a lot of people thought it was "uncool". So when we get to 2002, Pikachu is probably our most anti-voted character. This Poke-hate has slowly faded, and Pikachu is quickly returning to what he could have been 12-14 years ago.

I'd pick Big Boss over Lightning practically entirely due to, uh, personal favorite. Though yeah I agree that it'd be "my head hurts!" Both characters managed similar numbers against the NNer they ended up against, though we of course know that Mario is much stronger than Sonic now. Still, I'd pick BB to win with like 53% or something. TJF won't sway me away from Big Boss; I'll stick with him until he runs into...Dante/Freeman/Leon/Zelda/Yoshi/Ganondorf/Bowser/Luigi/Ryu group (or somebody higher than that).

I agree with Chief/Link, but if you want an accurate reading on L, I think you want a lower N9er, L-Block/Samus I think should give an accurate reading.

She deserves a Seph match as well.

Not sure if you were there, but in 2007 there was a massive backlash when the bracket was revealed and L-Block was on it. People claimed that the integrity of the contest was ruined.

Really? I don't remember people pissed off over L-Block making the bracket. Yeah, probably a few people complained about it not being a character, but I believe more people were amused that it made the bracket.

Snow is pretty much praised highly by everywhere. You get some weird people from here that hate on him for no reason whatsoever -- and people that love Sazh, again, for no reason whatsoever. Snow is a character that will always appeal to a broader fanbase than Sazh. Not because of race, but because of his character design, usefulness in the game, and personality.

If you think Snow would be anything less than a high midcarder you're sorely mistaken.

In terms of my projected strength of them:

Snow for one pisses people off with his constant cockiness that he can't even back up with action, plus he literally says the word "hero" at least 100 times in the game, yet he does nothing to show he's a hero. He's just so annoying.
