~*Say What? Some Common Stat Topic Lingo Defined*~

SFF (Same Fanbase Factor) - Same Fanbase Factor is the theory that, if two contestants share a common fanbase, the weaker of the two options will underperform in a direct matchup. For instance, Link was expected to defeat Ganon with 65% of the vote in 2004, based on their 2003 values. Instead, Link collected near 88% of the vote, because the Zelda fanbase so clearly sided with him. However, take some SFF labels with a grain of salt, as many people will slap it onto any match that doesn't make total sense. This has caused a few SFF jokes, with LordOfDabu's "Some Frivolous Factor" being the funniest of them.

X-Stats - Short form of Extrapolated Statistics, aka the mathematical "strength" of a contestant that can be determined based on their performance in any given matchup. See above for a detailed explanation of the x-stat process.

Noble Nine - Link, Cloud, Solid Snake, Sephiroth, Mario, Crono, Sonic, Samus and Mega Man.

Near-Elite - The Squall, Auron, Vincent, Kirby, Missingno, Charizard, et al group that has come at, near or even ahead of Noble Nine characters recently.

The Fodder Line - A final X-Stat value of 15% or below.

I haven't been in GameFAQs for months and you had this new contest of all of the sudden =P Good to see Charizard go that far!

POSSIBLE FFVII SPOILERS AHEAD

Cloud stopped at the gate that marked the entrance to Kalm, and turned to walk back to Midgar. He enjoyed long walks, for he could contemplate in peace while walking, away from the pressures of running the second greatest empire in the world. On these walks he could reflect on the past, and reach through the long years to a time when he had felt more a hero than he did now.

Cloud saw a large projectile, a missile, fly over his head and straight towards Midgar. The missile struck the old Shinra Building, now Cloud's headquarters, and Cloud saw the beginnings of a huge explosion erupt outward from the building. But it abruptly stopped, contained, and Cloud saw the figure of a one-winged angel standing in the fire, pulling it back.

Another nuclear warhead flew over Cloud and into Sephiroth, but he appeared unharmed. Then another. And another. The blast radius around Sephiroth grew slightly, but the fire was still easily contained. 2 more missiles struck Sephiroth, at once this time. Then 4 at once. Then 4 more. The One Winged Angel was still holding the fire at bay, and the blast radius seemed even to have shrunk. 6 more nuclear missiles struck him, doing little.

Then a single smaller missile struck Sephiroth. Instead of exploding, it pierced his skin. Cloud felt feelings of confusion through his link with Sephiroth. These were swiftly followed by fear, compassion, and....humanity. Then came feelings of horror as Sephiroth's wing disappeared, and he transformed into the body of a human. He could no longer hold the fire, and it at last incinerated him. The wave of fire washed over the city of Midgar and beyond, sending out shockwaves that knocked Cloud off his feet miles away.

Cloud got up, and saw that Midgar had been completely vaporized. Kalm had been flattened and burned, if not vaporized. He muttered one word to himself: "Snake."

Cloud rushed to the base of the Resistance, the band of fighters who sought to keep free of both Nintendo and Square. After today, it would be only Nintendo they sought to resist, but then, after today, the Resistance would not exist. Square was dead, but Cloud was not. Cloud approached the entrance, guarded by Jade Curtiss and Yuri Lowell.

Yuri: Who goes there? Oh.....it's.......Cloud!

Two bolts of lightning came from Cloud's hand, and the two guards fell dead. Cloud entered the base and headed straight for the center tower. A scientist with what looked like a powerful gun sought to stop him. Gordon opened his mouth to speak, but a bolt of lightning killed him before he could get the words out.

Cloud entered the tower and ran into an ambush. Master Chief and 300 of his fellow Spartans had machine guns pointed directly at him.

Master Chief: Surrender now, or else die!

Cloud did not reply, and walked forward. The Spartans opened fire, and it did precisely nothing. Cloud waved his hand, and a wall of fire expanded in front of him and around him, burning everyone else in the room to a crisp. Cloud ascended the stairs, running all the time. He ran into Ryu, who was descending the stairs.

Ryu: ....Cloud? Snake's plan was not completely successful then- good. I prefer to fight you than to win like that.
Cloud: Shut up and die.

Cloud's sword cut Ryu cleanly in half in one swift motion, and Cloud continued his ascent of the stairs. He reached the top landing, and found himself facing the blue fighting robot Mega Man. Cloud shot a bolt of lightning at the robot, but he dodged it displaying an unexpected amount of speed.

Cloud: Ah, I remember now. You once beat Sonic the Hedgehog and stole his powers.
Mega Man: Look, I'm sorry about Midgar- that was Snake's idea. But can't we have everlasting peace now? We'll work together to fight Link, you can join us, Cloud. We might have a-
Cloud: Climhazzard!

Mega Man fell at Cloud's feet, and Cloud opened the door to Solid Snake's office. He was immediately shot with a needle. Cloud raised his sword to charge at Snake, but then realized what the needle was- the same injection that Sephiroth had been shot with. In horror Cloud felt his Sephiroth genes, his Jenova genes, falling away from him, and he was left an ordinary human. Cloud took up the Buster Sword, which was now very heavy in his hands, and charged at Snake, who easily sent him flying into a bookshelf with CQC.

Cloud: You......you.......
Cloud: I..............
Cloud: .................
Cloud: You are a good soldier, Snake. Maybe you could even beat Link someday. But I won't surrender here...............no, I won't.
Cloud: I am more than a clone of Sephiroth. I am far more!
Cloud: OMNISLASH!

Cloud thought his human body should not have been able to handle the strain of the fast movements of the Omnislash, but somehow it did, long enough to finish the attack and leave Snake dead with a hundred slashes through him. Cloud was fully human again, and he was happy- for some reason he felt like a real hero again. There was one enemy left.

I'd actually like to see Mega vs. Seph next year. I think that's the best place for both, since Mega Man can't beat Mario/Samus/Snake and since Seph either beating or losing to Mario/Samus/Snake wouldn't be terribly exciting for anyone. I just think it's an extremely risky pick; too risky for my blood right now. Maybe I'll reconsider if Link launches Cloud out of orbit.

Squall can beat Sonic. Maybe Crono. I'm not convinced Missingno's performance means anything for him. For one, I don't think Yoshi is suddenly up there at 45% on Sephiroth, so who knows what he's really worth.

Squall would still deserve a shot against Sonic and Crono since they need to reprove themselves the most and beating Auron reminded us Squall's no joke. I don't think I'd take him over either of them, but those are good matches worthy of hype.

For some reason, I want Tifa to be our first "serious" character to topple the Noble 9. I might still take her over Sonic next year, especially if Sonic 4 is another dud.

oh sure, Squall can beat sonic NOW, but next year with sonic4 under his belt, I'm expecting big things.
Also what do people expect out of Birth By Sleep, it seems to be a much proper big game addition to the KH franchise compared KH 358/2.
Better graphics, bigger cast, from the looks of it faster gameplay too.

KH on a sony system as well, think it'll do more of an impact than the non-entity that was 358/2

Which one of Sonic's performances was great? The 57% on Bacondorf or the 54% on Kirby? Not sure why Squall can't match those performances.

And we can't take anything Missingno did at face value. We can glean nothing from Crono this year.

Crono is easy; he's worth around 47% on Sephiroth. That puts him at around 45% on Snake, which is a clear step above Squall.

I don't see what the problem with this is! All of the Mario characters performed very well this year. Yoshi vs. Tifa seems like a bit of a debatable match to me.
