~*Say What? Some Common Stat Topic Lingo Defined*~

SFF (Same Fanbase Factor) - Same Fanbase Factor is the theory that, if two contestants share a common fanbase, the weaker of the two options will underperform in a direct matchup. For instance, Link was expected to defeat Ganon with 65% of the vote in 2004, based on their 2003 values. Instead, Link collected near 88% of the vote, because the Zelda fanbase so clearly sided with him. However, take some SFF labels with a grain of salt, as many people will slap it onto any match that doesn't make total sense. This has caused a few SFF jokes, with LordOfDabu's "Some Frivolous Factor" being the funniest of them.

X-Stats - Short form of Extrapolated Statistics, aka the mathematical "strength" of a contestant that can be determined based on their performance in any given matchup. See above for a detailed explanation of the x-stat process.

Noble Nine - Link, Cloud, Solid Snake, Sephiroth, Mario, Crono, Sonic, Samus and Mega Man.

Near-Elite - The Squall, Auron, Vincent, Kirby, Missingno, Charizard, et al group that has come at, near or even ahead of Noble Nine characters recently.

The Fodder Line - A final X-Stat value of 15% or below.

For other information, surf the contest sites a bit. They have everything.

You know, I actually don't mind that Link is now completely alone up there with Cloud and Sephiroth down at the level of the mid-Noble Nine. This means we could, next contest, remove Link and only Link from the main bracket and have the winner fight him in a "CHAMPIONSHIP DEFENSE" match. Not only would it free up the main bracket, predicting it could be hell considering Samus, Cloud, Sephiroth, Snake, and Mario seem to be all around roughly the same level of strength.

Should someone somehow defeat Link, he could go back to the main bracket and the dude who beat him goes to sit in the bonus match.

This is a very good idea. Any bracket without Link in it next year would be hell to predict.

Okay, I'm relieved to see Cloud in the lead. I was a little afraid Snake would start a massive stallfest and delay what's inevitable for hours.....looks like he did get a massive stallfest, but after 4 AM instead of before! Well, it's okay now.

Well, at least it looks like cloud hasn't dropped as much.. Snake has just boosted insanely maybe? Cloud vs Mario would be interesting. Snake vs Mario too.. Samus is obviously weaker. Seph.. man damn =/ Seph vs MM would be awesome to see, or sonic. Oh, and cloud prob wont break 43% on link

So I'm catching up on the stats topic at the moment. Random thoughts:

-Stop being surprised at weird board votes, people. Since 2002, the board vote has gone to whoever has the bracket support, and people almost always vote for their bracket through the entire contest.

-MWIS sucked all the fun out of Snake's run in about 10 minutes. The one bright spot of Snake losing the morning vote is this guy going away until next contest, where he'll undoubtedly show up at the worst time, act like a punk and make people root against Snake once again.

-Cloud did WAY better overnight than I thought he would. Early bracket voting or not, you'd figure Snake would have gotten bandwagoned to a much better lead.

-PIKACHU > SAMUS IN THE 5 MINUTE STATS YES.

-FF7 has lost a step overall, but the Vincent and Tifa matches kind of make it clear Seph is getting all the backlash right now. Beating Missingno might have been the worst thing Seph could have done, and it's ironic the Missingno fans take this contest more seriously than anyone else.

-To think, I got totally crucified for making fun of charon by this topic, and now everyone here is following suit and doing the same. Way to make yourself look like complete hypocrites. He hasn't even been that bad. Way better than that VAULT BOY IS A JOKE CHARACTER crusade, at least. MWIS has been way, way worse lately.

-KP: "Sephiroth has the worst fanboys I have ever seen in my entire life. I'm not talking about fans, I'm talking about fanBOYs. Sephiroth has the worst die-hard fanatics in existence, and I am fully ready to consider people starting to dislike him simply because of years of dealing with them." ; the girls are worse.

-People trying to bite on my RBY > FF7 upset after telling me how stupid it was? yessssssssss never change stat topic.

-The correct list for worst fanbases in gaming:

1 - Dota players. Anyone who disagrees has flat-out not played it that much.
2 - MMO addicts.
3 - Sonic cultists (it's the only way to describe those deviantart freaks).
4 - Soccer moms and the brat kids they constantly overprotect.
5 - Easymode casuals.
Honorable Mention - Smash Brothers tournament people. Take everything bad about 2d fighter tournament people and you get these guys.
Other Honorable Mention - Message board gamers. Inui is the classic example of why they're so bad.

And since charon asked, my opinion of good fanbases:

1 - Portal, most pleasant people around. If you think we're annoying, you just haven't played it yet is all. And the game is like 12 cents on Steam and 2 hours long, so that's your fault.
2 - EarthBound, most dedicated people around.
3 - Xenogears (I've never, ever, ever, EVER seen a Xenogears fan that wasn't completely awesome. My FF13 line was 90% Xenogears freaks and they were all very pleasant.)
4 - Metal Gear Solid (MWIS aside, since he's on a mission to make us all look as bad as possible)
5 - Fire Emblem (KP is completely insane, they only look bad recently because Shadow Dragon wasn't received well)
Honorable Mention - Silent Hill

-Why does MWIS love Snake and hate Squall? They're the exact same character, and MGS1 Snake is every bit as stupid, pompous and annoying as FF8 Squall.

-FFX-2 is indefensible.

-FF12 is also indefensible, and I actually kinda like the game. But it's terrible.

-Mortal Kombat doesn't have enough fans left to be considered in the worst. Most people left that franchise years ago.

I don't think Snake is being bandwagoned here, he seems to fall in line with his performance against Sephiroth and he had no reason to overperform in that match.

Talking about cool fanbases... The only cool people I've met on XBox Live are the people who play World Series of Poker. They're all down-to-earth folks. Squall Leonhart is the worst Final Fantasy character ever created.

I guess the fact that this appears to be legit from Snake is somewhat more heartening (stress the appearing part). He'd have to be favored for indirect placement above Samus, anyway.
