It was a great value for 2006 because it was a PS1, PS2, and PS3 all rolled into one, unlike the current models.

The PS3 is an awesome machine and in 2006 was worth far more than what they were selling it at. That's a great value. If it's more than you can afford, that's one thing, you can say it was a bad price point and I would agree to that happily, but the it was a good value.

PS3 hardware BROKEN/Sony going out of business/etc", the stuff where everyone was actively rooting against them and posting lies and made up stuff, being proven wrong, and then just posting it again and again anyway. Things have gone almost exactly as I said they would. I know the internet took hold of that E3 pretty well, but it didn't mean Sony didn't have an awesome machine that was a great value for 2006. Anti-Sony in 2006 was unbearably stupid. Giant Enemy Crab was funny, but when it was used in every topic that people wanted to talk about their PS3? bad as hell.

A great value as a Blu Ray player, maybe, but it came out as a terrible gaming console. The 360 was cheaper, had a head start, and had any good game that the PS3 had to offer. Remember when Lair was hyped? It wasn't like people just hated Sony, I think mostly they were disappointed that the people behind the great PS1 and 2 had come out with something so lame.

I remember (and I'm guessing you do as well, although you were drunk at the time) that topic I posted in 06 where I said "enough BS. Just sign here if you honestly want Sony to fail" and like 50+ people signed and it turned into a big ol' thing. That's a pretty extreme opinion to have, so either we're all stupid as hell or Sony actually did things to piss people off back then. Sony treated gamers like they didn't matter, like their machine would sell out even if some people hated the price tag or were disinterested in the game library, and people got fed up with it really quickly. Sony got smacked around, they improved their pricing and library, and now they're in good standing. I didn't post any fake info, but I and a ton of other people grew tired of Sony's attitude. Why else would we just turn on a company that had just given us two of the best home consoles ever?

As for the value, yeah, it was a good value when compared to $700 Blu-Ray players or whatever was out at the time, but how many gamers actually cared about that back then? For a gamer, $600 was too much for a game console with no huge games, especially when Microsoft's cheaper console could rival it in graphics.

The PS3 wasn't lame though, it was amazing, it just had a price point too high. The 360 with the same features was more expensive than a PS3 and had major hardware issues to say the least. Wii360 was such a joke yet it was used quite a bit.

And the Sony hate didn't just come from E3 and the PS3 launch. "PS3 Hardware Broken" had nothing to really do with either, it was just a bad article that kept getting used by the same people to prove "nails in the coffin".

I know I was right then and the results have only proven me so. Sony had the right strategy and it has worked and years from now it will only continue to bear out this way.

and yeah Lair kinda sucked :(

Man how does Cloud have 48% in the US? Snake has 2/3 of the states in his favor including all of like, the top 7 by population. He must have some razor thin margins in a lot of them.

I think a lot of people were happy to be pissed off by Sony, and I think a lot of people were stupid. I thought so then. I thought 600 was way too much and I thought the E3 was embarrassing but wanting them out of business?

The 360 with online and wireless was way more expensive than the PS3, and RROD was pretty rampant. Wii360 was anti-Sony.

I also hated this notion that any company cares about gamers. The big "Nintendo cares about gamers" that tended to coincide with this Sony hate was really annoying. TP being a Wii launch title was used quite a bit by people to show that Nintendo cared about gamers. It was crazy apes.

I never like getting into console-wars or company-wars, but I never particularly like Sony. My brother's PS1 and PS2 had problems as well as my CD player and headphones by them, the PS3 was definitely handled with unnecessary arrogance, and I simply prefer my console-companies to be their system's best representative when it comes to their system's games. I don't wish them ill now or anything...but given their attitude and actions before the PS3's launch humbled them, they had it coming.

I may be getting a PS2 soon though, just because I need a DVD-player and think it would be a cheap way to play a lot of new games.

If I had to pick one, I'd prefer the opposite, but being open minded, I certainly prefer whatever company makes the best games to do just that. I'd rather not see a certain company to be hostile towards third party developers and market away from them, because while that would fit your ideals, it's obviously bad for gamers. Unless you're talking Microsoft, which would be a good example of a publisher representing their very own console very well without resorting to poor tactics. Of course you probably don't want Microsoft with a significant advantage in a gaming market as a gamer >_>
