Really? I find Master Chief and Ganondorf fanboys much worse.

While I've seen Master Chief fanboys, Ganon ones is new to me. I don't doubt they exist, but I honestly haven't seen any, at least not on the level I think we're talking about here.

I have to confess that it is somewhat surprising, though, that 2500+ people who prefer Snake over Sephiroth would double-take and support Cloud over Snake.

Cloud >>> Sephiroth, in my opinion. I do like Snake more than both, but there are lots of characters I'd vote over Sephiroth but not over Cloud.

The fact that Ganondorf has fanboys at all is a crime against humanity.

Doesn't Moltar really like Ganondorf? I don't know if he'd call himself a fanboy, though.

I think Moltar's the closest thing I've seen to a Ganondorf fanboy, and I don't think he'd consider himself a fanboy.

Well, I just hope this match puts to rest the concept that Snake benefited from some huge anti-FFVII surge after Samus' narrow loss. If a Samus-driven, coordinated uprising supported Snake in droves against one FFVII character, they're not going to suddenly stop supporting Snake when he has a chance to beat the character who defeated Samus in the first place.

Actually, won't six of the Top 10 at least be Brawl characters? Link, Mario, Samus, Charizard, Pikachu, and Snake?

Surprisingly, Link fanboys aren't really annoying. I suppose that comes with the territory of being a heartless automoton !

Now that I think about it, visual novel fans can be detestable sometimes but uuuuh I'm trying to get people to play them so just ignore that

Earthbound is actually a candidate for the best fanbase in existence. I have never in my life seen a fanbase as content and happy as them. Even the worst of them really only want you to try the games.

Those Shadow of the Colossus fanboys should go and look at some other artsy games (e.g. MGS2, Grim Fandango, RE4, HL2, Okami, OoT, etc.).

I'd vote for SotC over a lot of stuff, but only because of its incredible contrast with other games. I think that is the reason for its by and large critical acclaim (heck, I've seen two sites name it the best game of the decade thus far. Only Half-Life 2 and World of Warcraft have been on par with that. And all three of them suck with the ASV on this site! Kiddies don't know their masterpieces).

I'm definitely pulling for Cloud here for this reason; the harder he drops Snake, the better Samus is by comparison. Samus is definitely my favorite character in the contest, so if there are others out there like me, there will be a good number of people voting for Cloud just to see Snake fall.

You get the same thing in sports. When one team loses to another, the supporters of the loser want the winner to go as far as possible to vindicate their loss. If Cloud beats Snake 53-47% - or more - then we Samus fans have some consolation knowing that we were beaten by a character who was simply really strong.
