Is it ironic that I'm watching somebody play Super Mario Land 2 on YouTube? And have you guys heard of the YouTube user "roundthewheel"?

I feel really good about Snake tomorrow, especially if he can get/sustain his bandwagon. I just hope actually pounding Sephiroth for 12 hours straight hasn't taken off the "FF7-always-wins" allure or contributed to any kind of Snake fatigue.

I was hoping for a 40% or thereabouts performance from Mario to give some realistic hope for the final, but alas. Next year's bandwagon then, Snake.

Probably not, but it's hart to beat a former GotY-winning game becoming an Ultimate Loser, too.

I don't think we've discussed this since Link/Sonic happened, but it just crossed my mind: is it certain now that Shadow was SFF'd by Link in 2008, or are there still questions about it? It certainly looks like Link brought the HYLIAN HAMMER down on Sonic.

Considering I took Zidane there and my entire rationale behind it was that Link would not be kind to Shadow...

I sorta question it. Shadow being SFFed would make Zidane look pretty awful... but he went out and nearly beat Ike. I suppose you could chalk that up to the Old Square/Dissidia boost.

Also, I characterize FFIX as Old Square. I have no idea why, but I'll defend that to the death.

FFIX is basically Old Square. Same trends, same kind of game, same 'not played as much as 7/8/10'.

Well, FF9 is New-Square's love letter to Old-Square, so I guess it kinda makes sense that Zidane and Vivi get lumped with the likes of Cecil and Kefka rather than Squall and Tidus. Plus FF9 isn't nearly as popular here as FF8 or FF10.

Same with FFT, for that matter, though a lot of it got lost in the translation. Dunno if the PSP version does a better job with the callbacks.

Also interesting that FF13 has achievements and I assume trophies named after characters from FF5.

In case you didn't know the ultimate loser in 4-way contests would be decided by this example:

Ocarina of Time won the finals where Final Fantasy X was last place,
In FFX's last match Brawl was last place,
In Brawl's last match RE4 was last place,
In RE4's last match Oblivion was last place,
In Oblivion's last match ToS was last place,
In ToS's last match San Andreas was last place
