I'm 100% positive I will like ME2 better. I've seen some of the ME1>ME2 arguments and they include things like "I miss the Mako systems!" "I miss the old inventory system!"

DnD is a True RPG, SO shut you're damn mouth boy.

And many wrpgs use the DND system. So its DND translated into video game form.

Every time I agree with something like this, I inwardly sob at the awful series of unfortunate circumstances that made KoToR 2 the biggest gaming disappointment of my life.

There's this phenomenal Let's Play written up by a really intelligent fan of the game who dissects everything that KOTOR 2 could have been. It brought tears of sadness to my eyes.
I am utterly convinced that if KOTOR 2 was given the time it needed to complete development, it would have been even better than the original KOTOR. There were some incredible twists and turns planned, real shades-of-grey style developments that symboled a huge progression from the original KOTOR's moral absolutism.

...and then the game was released too early.
Bah.

It still has an exact story to it based on Limited character choices.
As DnD allows room for a lot more Creativity, and a better story based on character choices, DM's Improvising is what makes it a True RPG, unlike WRPG's still having that barrier.

Except that their RPGs aren't really rpgs at all, outside of leveling and stats. You don't role play or anything... WRPGs are the true RPGs. JRPGs are more of a storybook game, since you follow a story instead of actively partaking in crafting it.

You're setting certain limits on the definition of the word "role" to make that distinction. The fact that someone has a "role" does not automatically mean that they have choices in what they do; ever heard of the sports term "role player"? It's someone who does a specific thing at a specific time, not whatever the hell they please (like Michael Jordan).

It's a cultural difference, not a difference in validity. Eastern countries are not nearly as focused on the individual as western ones, and the games reflect this (i.e. your player's "role" in WRPG's has much more individuality/freedom in their choices than JRPG's).

Apparently the old inventory system had 'RPG elements', which automatically makes it better.

All I can say is that if this inventory was in an actual RPG, it could be a gamebreaker.

ME1 v ME2 arguments?

I side with ME2 here.

ME1 has the superior main story, but that's about it.

ME2 has a ridiculously improved cast, better gameplay (overall, there are elements in Mass Effect 1 I prefer, but on the whole I give this to ME2), no Mako Sections/incredibly blatant recycling of a handful of areas (though planet scanning approaches Mako levels of annoyance after a time)...

Who are these people? I need to keep their bad opinions on ignore.

I'd have missed the Mako for that beautiful scenery and sense of elegant, desolate space exploration in its rawest form.

...I would have missed the Mako, anyway, if it wasn't buggy as all hell.

Seriously, ME1's Mako would have been fine if the bugs were reduced, the number of explorable planets reduced by about half, and each explorable planet was given more...stuff to do.

Oh, and they should have gotten rid of the unnecessarily steep inclines on some planets. That was rough.

In ME2, I did miss the fact that you didn't have the chance to explore quite as varied a set of planets. You explored more habitable planets, but less of the crazy sci-fi stuff -- planets with kooky atmospheres, planets with three different-colored suns, all those shenanigans.

I find the FFVII anti-voters very weird. One some level they "care" less about the contests, since they obviously no so little about them, but on some other level they are more personally invested in the outcomes, and thus assume that everyone else is as well. It's like some weird Nixonian "Silent Majority" resentment, but translated to GameFAQS contests. The same thing holds true on 4chan as well for the most part, at least from what I've observed. They mock anyone who "takes things seriously" and gets "butthurt" despite the fact that they are actually more invested in hating things and much more rigid in what is acceptable than the people they mock, and if anyone acts "butthurt" in their incidents it is almost always them.

Since Bioware RPG discussion seems to be coming up in general too... I also have the unpopular opinion that even as butchered as it was, KotOR II is almost entirely equal to KotOR. Sure, the ending got mangled beyond belief, but before that, I felt it was improved in nearly every other way for the most part.

Having heard of a lot of what was cut, I have no doubt at all that the complete version of KotOR II would have blown away KotOR. Alas, it did not happen.

Now that we are done with the 24 hour matches, I can provide some small stats on them.

Average votes per match (night matches): 52590
Which is distributed in the following manner...

North America - 37106 (70.56%)
South America - 1236 (2.35%)
Europe - 9625 (18.30%)
Asia - 2693 (5.12%)
Oceania - 1854 (3.53%)
Africa - 75 (0.14%)

Average votes per match (day matches): 73248
Which is distributed in the following manner...
North America - 59534 (81.28%)
South America - 2068 (2.82%)
Europe - 8937 (12.20%)
Asia - 1373 (1.87%)
Oceania - 1279 (1.75%)
Africa - 56 (0.08%)

Day matches got more votes than night matches by a factor of about 1.39 (73248 / 52590).

I suppose some of the stats guys could use this information to make adjustments to the match results based on the time of the day. This might help determine what matches might have had a totally differently result based on the time of the day, or if the match had been a 24 hour match instead.

...We...stopped talking about the FFVII anti-voters a while back.
Honestly, the more you bring it up, the more I'm convinced you're really just an FFVII fanboy who's irrationally angry that Other People Don't Always Love The Same Things You Do.

...(And I like FFVII. It's my favorite Final Fantasy. Seriously. Not even kidding. I simultaneously believe it's my favorite Final Fantasy and it's overrated, but I'd still vote for Cloud Strife over many other characters in this contest not named Solid Snake.)

Nay, the Silent Majority is the FFVII fanbase here. The anti-voters are the liberals who are very loud and into politics, in this case.

Oh, I've felt for quite some time that for all the "lol we don't care about this contest we're doing this to make all you guys mad and whine lol" talk, that the Missingo supporters, etc. actually seemed to care more about the contest and its results than the vast majority of their "opponents."

It's just it seemed like a pointless argument to pursue, because I doubt it'd get anywhere productive.

That's bold, but i can respect that opinion...because if you got past all the glitches and such, the story as a whole was a step up, in terms of really fleshing out the supporting cast. The only thing that was less than great to me about KoToR 1 was that the most important supporting cast had some cliche back stories...good, but still overused. Obviously,

*SPOILERS FOR KOTOR 1*

the main character's story was sufficiently mind-blowing that the lesser stories could be forgiven and the game completely enjoyed.

By the definition of what anti-voters are, of course. The average FF7 supporter thinks "Oh hey, its that game I played when I was younger and I didn't know what good RPGs were like! *votes*" The anti-voter has to be somewhat invested in the contest, to the point where he would vote against FF7 because they do not like the idea of it winning a match.

Yeah so how goes Liquid's TRAINING IN WUTAI. Perfect example of why there is no good fanfiction.

Fun Fact: A few real-life friends were asking about GameFAQs over my place. We happened upon that topic for some reason and started reading it. It wasn't that bad (I'd put it at "well-written, but it's still a fanfic" level), but then we got to that Liquid training in Wutai stuff. It's been an inside joke ever since.
