Anti-voting is part of Sephiroth's natural strength. Who do you think the people who are anti-voting Sephiroth would vote for if they weren't anti-voting Sephiroth? Sephiroth? If they're anti-voting Sephiroth, that means they don't like Sephiroth, ergo they prefer Snake to Sephiroth unless they also hate Snake. Against someone like Guybrush, anti-voting will cause Sephiroth to underperform, but it doesn't really matter against Snake. The only part of it that does matter is that anti-voters care more about the contest than others, and are more likely to catch a 12-hour poll.

I think it's pretty foolish to assume that Sephiroth didn't get hit with the perfect anti-vote storm, especially coming right after spiky quelled the massive Samus effort.

I think it's pretty foolish to assume Sephiroth did get hit with a mystical 'anti-vote storm' without evidence backing the claim. And Sephiroth's underperformed all contest. It's not like he was doing fine and dandy and then he ran into Snake and **** spontaneously hit the fan.

As for Snake also presumably underperforming in at least one match: first, the Pokemon in general have kicked ass this contest for some reason. Second, the Solid **** picture effect is real. We've seen it happen before, it's been documented, and no similar effect exists for Sephiroth.

Actually Sephiroth did about expected right up until Tifa, IE the point in the contest where people were like "ugh FFVII sucks screw this"

Face it your boy Snake is the most bandwagon-rific non-joke character in the contest. Dude can lose to Samus one year and then pull out miracles against the FFVII crew in others.

Let's give it another year before we crown Snake the new 3rd(2nd?) strongest on the site. I know you're still sitting there with a sticky pair of boxers but try not to be too hasty.

Sephiroth's year wasn't really a failure though. He lost to another NN member, which is acceptable assuming we allow NN values to fluctuate. It was a terrible failure for the prestige of Clinkeroth, sure, but Sephy's still quite strong and I can't think of anyone outside the upper half of the NN who'd beat him.

Big Boss has legitimate strength. Kratos is obviously overrated a lot by the Pokemon release though.
