That's the big problem, no FF game/characters can match up to Cloud/Seph/FF7. FFXIII will be lucky to have any near-elites. What does the franchise need to do in order for them to take Zelda down, once more? FFXV on the Wii with rave reviews and rave sales?

Seriously, the parallels are so great that I almost started writing "MGS1 as played by FFVIII guys" once.

...Except Squall is a selfish, entitled, emo little teenage brat who treats his friends like turds, and all his angst has absolutely no correlation to the extraordinary privileged life he's lived, surrounded by friends and girls who adore him and pretty gardens.
...And Solid Snake is a hero who saves the world and he doesn't take **** from anybody. Also his entire life story is legitimately tragic, whereas Squall's just an entitled selfish wuss, and Snake's reasons for fighting aren't selfish at all, he's driven by lofty philosophical ideals Squall couldn't possibly even begin to comprehend.

The single biggest difference between Snake and Squall? MGS4, scene involving a microwave. Squall sits down, curls up into a ball and says "...Whatever." Despite the fact that he is young and fit and healthy everyone loves him and depends on him. Snake, who is artificially aging at an accelerated rate, infected with FoxDIE, beaten and bruised and old, sneaks that **** because he never surrenders.

...Whereas in multiple moments throughout FFVIII's script, Squall frequently surrenders.

...And Meryl's a badass tomboy whereas Rinoa's a pep rally cheerleader with an overdose of ADD. And, Snake indulges in a bromance with another male human being named Otacon, whereas Squall acts like all other human beings not named Squall are automatically reprehensible and repulsive.

The main difference is:

**** happens to Solid Snake, and he says "Whatever," charges headstrong, kicks the crap out of people far stronger and more powerful than him, and uses his wits and ingenuity to save the day.

...Squall just says "Whatever." He's a naturally gifted soldier with insane magical abilities and an entire elite military organization behind him, and he has everything a human being could possibly ask for, and he still assumes that life is horrible and he should find a corner to crawl into while listening to My Chemical Romance CDs and preparing to slit his wrists.

And being a genetically modified soldier isn't exactly a huge plus when you're going up against guys with the supernatural ability to read minds and move objects through psychokinesis. Or a tank. Or a helicopter. Or a gigantic behemoth of a man carrying around a massive machine gun.

Uh, yeah sorry but isn't Solid Snake the product of genetic engineering to create a perfect soldier? Not like he's just "some guy".

Only Solid Snake's actually the inferior super-soldier.

That doesn't stop him from beating the superior one into a bloody pulp.

And being a genetically modified soldier isn't exactly a huge plus when you're going up against guys with the supernatural ability to read minds and move objects through psychokinesis. Or a tank. Or a helicopter. Or a gigantic behemoth of a man carrying around a massive machine gun. Or a woman who cannot be killed. Or a vampire who is immortal.

Hey vcharon, I didn't say Cloud sucked!
I mean he should lose to Snake, sure, but let's not compare Cloud to a character like Squall, here.
For one thing, there is actually a semi-legitimate reason for all of Cloud's angst.
