Snake only gains 13, that's the closest Sephiroth has gotten to a cut yet. I think there's a good chance Link gets 65% on Mario like he did last year, or close to there. After the Sonic match, and with all 24 hours available to him, I've gotta be optimistic. --- 2010 Extrapolated Standings: Crono gets 46.85% on Sephiroth. All you need now is KH3 or SSB4, Crono. Then your quest shall be fulfilled! |

Luigi did relatively well on Link, so I think Mario can as well. --- Squall Leonhart is the worst Final Fantasy character ever created. |

As
far as the Snake vs. Seph notoriety debate, have any of you ever
visited a site like Newgrounds or others that house flash animations?
If so, how many hundreds of times have you seen a parody of the codec
messages or the cardboard box? And how many times have you seen a
parody of....whatever the heck it is that Sephiroth does? --------------- FFVII was huge at a time the the internet was only just getting started. Not a fair comparison. We're not talking about their popularity when FF7 came out. We're talking about their popularity and recognizability now. Therefore it is a completely fair comparison. |

discussion, you've chosen the wrong medium. Yeah well when the debate is fully underway you don't get to change the topic to invalidate all the arguments. I may not have been clear on that in the first place but I did mean iconic like "historically iconic". Yeah Snake is definitely a bigger character than Sephiroth right now, more people will recognize him. Then again, ask a thousand people if they have heard of "Shutter Island" or "The Shining" and Shutter Island probably wins. Is it more iconic though? That's what I was going for. This makes me a bit sad. This result that is. Please explain something to me, as a board. Why it is funny, or cool, to rally or bandwagon a character like Snake past Sephiroth, which supposedly makes the contest exciting, just so he can either a) have a good match with Cloud or b) beat Cloud and get absolutely slaughtered by Link? I mean, I don't understand what about this makes the contest more interesting. I know the ultimate goal of people here, and this board, is to have all of the top characters be Nintendo creations (let's face it, Snake is only getting weaker without the Nintendo branch out). But really? This is what is interesting to you? Someone who will get completely murdered in the finals? Why wouldn't you bandwagon behind a character like Sephiroth in stead? Someone that has legitimate strength, and the separated fanbase from Link to actually stand a chance against Link in the finals if he won. It would be a huge upset for Seph to beat Cloud, and then to beat Link on top of it. But in stead you guys push and push for an even more boring contest than it supposedly already is. Sephiroth and his game had a far bigger impact on the industry than Snake and his games. A far bigger impact. Also, it's been what, 13 years since Sephiroth's game came out? Snake has had games through every generation, and is older. Sephiroth was still stronger until this year/bandwagoning.
