With
all the backlash FFVII gets in these contests people seem to forget
that FFVII actually was an extremely iconic game, on gameFAQs and
outside of it. Much moreso than MGS or any of its sequels. Keyword is WAS. People have moved on. Outside of a few cameo appearances in KH and what not, Sephiroth has disappeared from the video game landscape. Snake hasnt. MGS4 and SSBB (where he is a top tier character) came out somewhat recently. If this wasnt GameFAQs, Snake would be winning by more. One appearance in one RPG (albeit a legendary one) doesnt negate multiple appearances in a legendary SERIES. Not to mention Snake is the hero, not the villain. All you need to do is compare the US vote to the Asia vote to see what I mean. Snake clearly has the broader appeal. Sephiroth is just more popular among the specific fanbase he targets. --- People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. Consider
this: FF7 is like.. the most beloved game on this site (maybe OoT is
higher now).. and Snake is still beating Sephiroth. And GameFAQs is
definitely disproportionately in favour of FF7 compared to most of the
gaming world. Freaking Cloud and Sephiroth beat Mario, the biggest icon
of all time. Well yeah Snake is a lot more relevant to the current and previous generation than Cloud/Sephiroth are. But ask a million people who have never played a game in their entire life if they recognize Snake/Sephiroth, I'd be willing to bet Sephiroth wins that contest. Remember that guy that went to the mall and asked random people if they recognized these characters? Cloud and Sephiroth scored pretty good, comparatively. --- Hello, Dexter Morgan |
