Squall = Sephiroth?

I didn't expected such a low difference.I thought 55-45.Oh well seems Cloud shall win.Now the match is the most important for the contest.It decides who wins.But it is really important for me too because if Sephiroth does it this is the first time ever that I will finish in the leaderboard.Hope Sephiroth can do it.If not well...that is okay I think.Now if only Mario could beat Link...

Cloud well above 52% and still rising... you know (don't laugh), this isn't all that bad all things considered. We already know how many factors he's got against him, and considering we did just see Charizard put up 46% on Mario, it lessens the blow slightly. FF7 is weaker, no doubt about it, but not quite as weak as this match suggests.

Maybe all the Noble 9 have dropped in strength?

Can't think of a good sig.

Samus and Snake have clearly risen; Cloud, Sephiroth, Crono, and Sonic have dropped; the jury is still out on Mario and Mega Man; and it doesn't matter about Link, because he has to drop a very long way to bring anyone near him again.

Wow, Samus held on pretty good. She's even still winning in the US. Definitely like Snake later today.

I just realized that something fishy went on with Sephiroth/MissingNo. night. That poll was about 2000 votes ahead of this one from all of 12-5 AM, and from 5-8 so far that poll has been gaining like crazy and now has 4000 more votes.

Man, looks like Mario would be a lock over Sephiroth/Cloud. Shame he got wasted against Link, and the far weaker Snake took his place.

I'm not sure how people think Mario could do any better than Samus here, sounds like more speculation than anything. We aren't seeing the blowouts we used to, so I'd say that yeah all the Noble Nine have fallen in strength. Some have just fallen a bit further than some.

As for Snake, last year was probably his peak. Considering his story is over according to his own creator, he's got nowhere to go but down. Even Crono has a better chance of increasing in strength if you really believe Kojima's claims that Snake is done.

There's a reason that match was an anomaly. Mario got weaker, Charizard got stronger, but only for that match. Charizard overperforms against Nintendo characters I'd say, because who DOESN'T love Charizard?

And ultimately, how much a character is liked is responsible for who gets the SFF advantage-why do you think Link destroyed Sonic as badly as he did? Lots of people know both of them, but who actually likes Sonic more than Link anymore? Now, if you put Charizard in that match...

Charizard is on an incredible high because he's Nintendo and because of the new Pokemon games out. That should be obvious.

Analysis

Like I said the current match will give us some information about what will happen in this match. What prompted the warning flags was Sephiroth’s performance against Tifa in the previous round. While information on Tifa is rather scarce a lot of people don’t really expect her to be the much stronger than Vincent or Squall. Is Sephiroth in trouble or did fans support Tifa because they knew that Sephiroth was going to easily win and they went overboard while doing it?

Well based on the Cloud/Samus match it seems that Sephiroth is looking a lot better now. Cloud is currently defeating Samus rather easily and while Sephiroth is slightly weaker than Cloud based on this contest it seems that Samus was more impressive than Snake. His steroid run of the previous contest seems to have died down and between those two characters I would take Samus to win. Either way I feel that Sephiroth would outperform Samus in this match which means Snake is in a bit of trouble.

The only way I can see Snake pulling off the upset is if Sephiroth has dropped independently of Cloud which I find hard to believe. Still Tifa’s match last round does make me nervous, but I feel that match is not very trustworthy, but I guess this match will either prove that right or wrong. Like the current match Solid Snake may start off with the lead, but Sephiroth will come back to take the lead and never look back.

As you can tell I wrote that with the notion that Cloud was going to crush Samus overnight and as you can see that didn’t happen. I don’t have much time, but I would take Samus to defeat Snake in a match and while this seems like I’m coming up with excuses I’ve always felt that way pre-contest. If Snake does pull off the win I feel it would be because of people anti-voting due to Cloud’s win just 12 hours before this match.

It just seemed like a logical conclusion after his performance on Mega Man and the latter's performances. He has had NSMBW and Bowser's Inside Story, both popular games which were really well received, and hype for SMG2 is high. We'll see how he does on Link, as I doubt the SFF will be too severe.

As I said before Charizard was an anomaly.

Man, we're close to the days of breaking Clinkeroth even.

I guess we're out of Link killers.

I would actually really enjoy that. I still also hope for the multi-way poll with Link/Ganon/Zelda/Midna/Tingle/contest runner-up though, just to see if Link could still do it.

If we had Mario VS whoever else loses in the semi-final though, would you count it as a real match? LoZ:OoT > FF7 is treated pretty much as fact, but it's worth bringing up since it's not officially a contest match anymore. I imagine if it falls within the lines of the x-stats, people would call it legit...but if it strays very much, some hell would break out in arguments.

Well considering the difference between Snake and Samus was bigger than the difference between Seph and Cloud in 05, I would assume that Seph will put up the same numbers as Cloud here -- and since it's a more favorable time it's likely that he'll outperform Cloud on Snake.

Or, if you're really looking at something loopy -- Seph could pull the upset over Cloud.
