Uh, you do know Jiggylypuff is one of the best characters in Melee, right?

Tiers mean absolute **** all in these contests. FFS guys, if that's the case then Marth must be a ****ing contest god!

I'm talking about play-rates here. I've played SSBM since the first day it came out all the way until I sold my GC a couple of years ago. The only time I've ever seen anyone play Jigglypuff is if they wanted to embarrass their opponent because if you lost to Jigglypuff you really sucked!

There's a reason she is the only original SSB character to not make it into these contests, and that's because no one gives a **** about her. She's a fan favorite in Japan, but is useless everywhere else.

Of course not, because LOL THE CASUALS KNOW MORE THAN TOURNAMENT PLAYERS.

It's like those idiots who pretend they're smart by continuing to deny .999~ = 1. There's something called "intellectual authority". If a doctorate in math writes a book on calculus and gives you an applicable proof, it's a proof. That's the very definition of what "proof" is in math.

Smash casuals are in the exact same boat. That style of play is irrelevant in judging how good or bad a character is, and saying Jiggly sucks in all three games is a laughable joke. Citing B moves for this is more than enough proof of that.

Don't think any more FF characters need to be nomiated, not before the mascots anyway. Bahamut and Chocobo would be good for next year. They'd at least be decent midcarders I think.

You'd think Jigglypuff would have all the tools to be one of the strongest Pokemon (three Smash games and lots of exposure on the cartoon), but she was dreadful in her only poll appearance. Getting doubled by Mudkip who was doubled by Missingno... we can probably find a dozen or more stronger Pokeys.

for casual players, from the casual player perspective, Jigglypuff sucks. Real human beings don't use Jigglypuff. Jigglypuff does not stand to gain as much from Smash Bros. as characters that people actually use.

Dark Link would easily be the strongest option left I think, outside of a Pokemon if they can keep up this strength next year. Even then, I don't think the silliness from a few topics ago makes any sense at all. Squirtle is the only one that's worth trying.

Exactly. I've done the whole tournament thing in Melee, but to use that as your proof that she would be strong in these contests is completely laughable. Her strength will come completely from the Pokemon games, where she's nothing but a random Normal-type Pokemon. Oh, and she uses and marker to mark on people's faces in the anime.

Also Ulti there is a difference between professional players and casual players. Jigglypuff's learning curve is probably one of the largests in the entire series.

Completely wrong. She never needs to wavedash in Melee, so even a complete casual can pick her up and learn her. There's no overly fancy abuse of physics, she just WoPs most of the time. And against heavy characters or fast-fallers, you grab, up throw, Uair and Rest. She's tournament viable in two games, and only bad in Brawl.

But hey, what do I know.

Ness was a fan favorite in the original SSB. People were pissed because of how nerfed he and Kirby got in Melee because they were probably the two most used characters in the original.

Also, optimal NRT finish would be something like:

Dark Link
Red XIII
Seifer Almasy
Squirtle (or if another Pokemon is perceived stronger)

I'm undecided for a 5th spot. For instance, I wouldn't have thought Jecht was worth anything pre-contest but it turns out (pleasantly) I was wrong. I could be convinced; I'd have to see a list of rallies that were on at that time.

Again you're basing this on people that know what they are doing and actually do their homework. As a casual player playing as Jigglypuff is really hard to do.

With that said I fully believe that Jigglypuff would be high fodder at worst.

Heres my optimal NRT:

Sazh
Gokule
Maxim
Etna
Morrigan

Only Sazh and Etna have any real chance of making the tourney out of those, though.

There's a reason she is the only original SSB character to not make it into these contests, and that's because no one gives a **** about her.

Valid point. I'm pretty sure every other original-SSB character made it into a contest by 2005 and without board rallies, not to mention most of the SSBM and SSBB characters who missed the original SSB and have made it in a contest since then. Nana, Master Hand, and Sandbag have made the contest before Jigglypuff. I don't like to use the "They haven't made a contest yet so they can't be strong" argument...but nearly every character but Jigglypuff had made it into the contest when looking at the SSB-series, and this is despite being a Pokemon originally from RBY.

Good luck to her if she makes it into a contest, but she won't be very strong and definitely be smashed if stuck in any SFF-match.

Nice list - though considering the very real possibility we'd see a Dark Link vs. Link finals, I'm not sure I'd want him in.

Back in like 2K3 I really wanted Dark Link in badly, but he might just be Link part II. And we already have Link part I.

...Lara Croft? What? She's pretty unnecessary.
