I'm this close to ignoring all reason and going with this logic. At least it would make me happy for a while, until Mario won anyway and reminded me of its flaws.

But it depends.If you take the N9 as a whole Crono and Sonic can be beaten by many guys.If Mario loses here that means that everyone except Clinkeroth can be beaten by other characters.So there is a difference.

Not really. Link's already lost. Snake might beat Sephiroth, and Pikachu was leading Snake for 20 minutes. The difference between Cloud/Seph and someone like Mario isn't that significant, especially when Cloud/Seph are probably easier to rally against. Link is the biggest challenge, but even he's not completely unbeatable. Next contest should be fun to see how far everyone takes the Pokemon, because it seems like they're the last "kinda sorta joke" guys worth a damn.

Wait, why does it seem like matches are starting an hour early? Daylight savings silliness? I don't live in the US anymore, so I wouldn't know. There's a small chance I may be moving back in a few months, but my dad really doesn't want to move back.

One on one, I'd be surprised if anyone could beat Link. Cloud and Sephiroth are still the only characters ever to break 40% on the guy one-on-one. Even if somehow Charizard could do the impossible and beat Mario, he'd still get brick-walled against Link pretty hard.

Analysis

Charizard is the only non-one seeded character to reach the quarter-finals and as our Nomination Rally Tournament winner I’m glad that he won it and was given a division in which he can shine in. With all of GameFAQs still basking in the glow of the release of Heart Gold and Soul Silver I expect Charizard to have a decent performance, but at the same time Charizard won’t be reaching Mario.

Charizard defeating Bowser so easily was pretty impressive, but Mario is on another playing field. The only thing worth discussing is whether or not SFF will be in play. Pokemon may do well in terms of avoiding SFF, but at the same time Charizard is more Nintendo than the average Pokemon. He’s in Brawl which gives him some connection. On the other hand with the two games out Charizard could avoid SFF because fans are too hopped on Pokemon right now.

There’s a great chance that Charizard will outperform Mega Man in this match, especially if a bandwagon has formed since the last match. Like I said Mario is out of reach, but Charizard putting in respectable numbers is quite likely. We have to make sure that Charizard reaches the contest next round. He’s in danger of missing it due to the Pokemon fanbase splitting the nominations.
