Unless Samus and/or Snake pull off their necessary upsets, then the semifinals are going to be a big mess of SFF.

Also, assuming 2k6 Sonic is at about 35%, looks like Kirby and Bacondorf through Luigi fairly accurately predicts this.

Looks like we can take 3 things from this match:

- Sonic retains his claim as the ass-end of the Noble Nine
- Kirby was HORRIBLY overrated last year
- Ganondorf has continued his downward spiral for whatever reason

I just realized that if both the Snake and Samus upsets happen, then second place probably won't break 40% on Link, and might barely get 35%. This makes Luigi and Thrall look amazing.

Y'know, while I'm wary of using a match like this to gauge Snake/Sephiroth based on parallels weaker than Crono/Vincent trends, this match has a pretty bad implication for Snake. SFFed Sonic isn't weaker than SFFed Luigi (...no, really... he isn't), so this is about more than just SFF. Link isn't getting hit with the antivote hammer against Sonic here, very likely because Sonic is being given enough respect that traditional Link voters aren't risking giving him a pity vote. Ironically, of course, this makes Sonic look like more of a joke than ever, but if antivotes aren't out in full force when a legitimate character comes to contend that makes Snake's path through Sephiroth steeper.

I was thinking about this, but I honestly didn't think it would be taken seriously if I talked about it.

I mean not that it wouldn't have just been damage control on my part but still. >.>

This is clearly SFF. Yes, Mega Man X resisted it OK, but the thing is, people actually like X. On the other hand, how many people still like Sonic after his recent disgraces? Moreso than Link? Ultimately what determines how badly someone is SFF;d is how well-liked the character is relative to the other guy.

Looks like Alucard's Plan is coming to fruition!

If the random casuals on this board during the contest season are a true representation of all casuals, then yes they are blind to the fact Link always wins. It's "FF7 always wins" and Cloud/Sephiroth get anti-voted as a result, whereas Link largely does not.

Honestly, Thrall and Alucard only did as well as they did because of the night match. Had it been 24 hours, or worse, a day match, Link would've dished out some horrible pain. So no, I don't think Link gets anti-voted to any serious detriment, especially not like the FF7 crew.

Sonic is still well known enough to get voted from people who don't know or like the other guy, but against someone they do like Sonic's screwed, and is as such very vulnerable to SFF

Link is getting anti-voted, just look at the first update. Now, he's not getting anti-voted nearly as hard as Cloud or Sephiroth, but it does exist.

And the existence of anti-votes is a good thing for Seph as far as his previous performances are concerned, because the closer a match gets to 50/50 the less anti-votes matter.

Sephiroth looked bad against Tifa, but better than Snake did against Pikachu. Given that we saw from Yoshi that Snake isn't affected THAT much by sprites, we now must ask:

Is Pikachu stronger than Tifa?
Is rSFF that much weaker than Snake's pic?
Has Sephiroth given consistent performances at last round's level?

The answer to those is, if you ask me, "no". You'll be fine, I'm rooting for you.

UNLESS

If Samus upsets Cloud... Then what happens?

Some people also believe that Pikachu benefits from getting his sprite...but I wouldn't bet on it. Seph > Snake seems etched in stone, but then...okay, I recall the x-stats had Freeman barely escaping a doubling from Sephy, and if Sephy beats Snake then Gordon Freeman > Fox. Doesn't make much sense given what we've seen of the last few contests, but then again Freeman probably does get around what Fox got on Sora last year. If 2006 Tifa = 2009 Tifa then Freeman must've boosted since then, especially because of how terrible Sora looked in this contest. Okay, so...

Fox = 44% on Sora
Bowser = 52% on Sora (surely he wouldn't be able to shave off more than 2% with the ASV, right?)

No wait, Freeman would definetely break 40% on Bowser, and that means he would approach around Fox's percent on Sora. So okay, Freeman > Fox, HL2 is a strong game, yadda yadda yadda.

Off Topic: I just saw GamePro's Top 28 Wii Games list, and Brawl was...8th. As much as I think Brawl is overrated at this site, it's definetely one of the 5 or 6 best games on the Wii, no question. And guess what the top 2 were, and guess the order too.

Samus has no chance against Cloud.

I don't think Snake is stronger than Sephiroth, but with the toolbox anti-votes that happen now, he could make it a lot closer than I'd like.
