The reticence of this topic is amazing. Okay,
and how is she not such? Cloud gives this massive diatribe in Disc 1
(Kalm flashback). Tifa could quite easily go "uh, what are you talking
about? It was nothing like that" and never does. She pretends her and
Cloud are childhood friends when in reality she never spoke with him
even once and spurned him for the cool kids. And worst of all, she
turns into Generic JRPG Heroine in Disc 2. "NOTHING BAD CAN HAPPEN WHEN
YOU'RE WITH ME,
CLOUD/CECIL/SQUALL/LLOYD/ZACK/CRONO/LOCKE/SORA/ALEX/HIRO/ZIDANE/TIDUS/WHOEVER!".
There are two types of girl I cannot stand: manipulative, lying whore
and needy clinger types. Tifa is the worst of both worlds all
in one character. She is not deep, helpful or even the least bit

Mostly,
I just think it's humorous that it's pretty predictable when you're
going to jump in and bash a particular character/game/whatever, but
yeah. Tifa could quite easily go "uh, what are you talking about? It was nothing like that" and never does. Not exactly sure what good this would do. She has no idea how he even knows all of this stuff in the first place because he shouldn't, so she's just as confused as Cloud is. And I'm not sure Cloud would even believe her anyway. Not sure where you keep getting this "manipulative" stuff from though. She's not that. She doesn't hide the truth about Nibelheim from him to control him or anything. She just isn't sure what it means that he knows all that stuff. She pretends her and Cloud are childhood friends when in reality she never spoke with him even once That night Cloud called her out to the well, but yeah. They never say they were close friends or that they hung out all the time though, just that they were friends. I wouldn't make a promise to rescue someone or I wouldn't ask someone to make a promise to rescue me if I didn't consider them a "friend" at the very least though. --- Squall Leonhart is the worst Final Fantasy character ever created. |

But
mostly, I think people give Tifa too hard of a time because of a
screwup she made that she could have never predicted how huge the
consequences of it would be. It's not like she did it on purpose or

Lying
by omission is still lying, and you have a really loose definition of
what "friend" means. If I'm in love with a small-town girl since
childhood, but she always spurns me in favor of other kids in the
neighborhood, that's not being friends with someone. It's just living

I never said she didn't lie. And it's not like they couldn't consider each other "friends" after they made that promise at the well. That's all I'm saying. On
a different note, is it possible that Tifa's match against Samus in
2006 had little or nothing to do with the picture, and instead
everything to do with the same kind of upset fever that she seems to
have caught against Seph? Looking at the disparity between Zelda's
performances then and now, it makes sense. And yeah, speaking of that match, I'm not gathering that much more confidence from Tifa's little display here. Snake putting on a nice show against Squall was much more encouraging. Even still, with this kind of clamoring for an upset... Cloud and Seph may both be a cut above Samus and Snake. don't like lying either, but you aren't going to find many video game
characters (or characters in any medium) who never lie, whether on
purpose or unintentionally. It's not like Tifa lied about everything. Yes, it was a pretty important thing to refrain from telling the truth about, but quite frankly, if I were in her shoes, I don't think it'd be easy for me to say to a friend, "Hey, that didn't really happen the way you said it did, you liar" when that person shouldn't even know all of that stuff in the first place. --- Squall Leonhart is the worst Final Fantasy character ever created. |

just realized: Cloud/Sephiroth will the the semifinal if they both win
their matches. Prepare for lots of whining about how FFVII always

cut a ton of votes in the finals because Snake was on pure bandwagon
power and had staggered trends. The previous match was much more normal

Eh,
we haven't gotten to see Snake's ASV this year. His morning vote has
been good at any rate, which is usually a decent correlation. People
called for his head against Cloud when the ASV came in the semis, and
FF7's #1 did precisely nothing with it. There were other reasons for that - again, I'm not suddenly inclined to call the match a lock for Snake or even really brimming with confidence. don't think the issue is about the ToS, Albion. People think the
spoiler marking system here isn't very good, and even marked spoilers
