Tifa getting 40% wouldn't say anything about anyone except Tifa. We've always had poor reads on her. Vincent is more than a sufficient enough barometer.

Good to see a solid night from Snake, enough that he's about a half percent ahead of where he was in 2k6 at the time, which should only get better by the end of the match. Hopefully he can make some decent gains with the morning vote here and the DSV to really make Seph sweat, but he's done enough here to keep his acolytes faithful today.

I guess Pikachu could've benefitted from HG/SS hype (as well as it being the sprite round) and overperformed on Snake by an extra percent because of it. I would think of Pikachu possibly being in the top 15, but Shepard > Fox is a result I clearly don't believe in. I'd take Fox in a 55-45 manner. Pikachu's still a Top 20 character, though.

Nah, no way Ganondorf beats Pikachu. I'd accept maybe some of the non-Nintendo stuff, but from among Nintendo, I think the only ones that would beat Pikachu now are Link, Mario, Samus, Luigi, and maybe Bowser, Kirby, or Yoshi.

Well, and obviously if Bowser could, that would mean Charizard could also.

I understand that a lot of people are resistant to the idea that Pikachu is legit after the way he stunk up the first two contests, but somewhere in between his disappearance after CBII and his return in CBVI, he became legit. I'm guessing that by 2007, RBY was old enough that the anti-votes had dried up and the nostalgia factor had kicked in.

Lol what in the world are you going on about? Charizard is much stronger than Pikachu, and Pikachu would never beat Luigi, Bowser, Kirby or Ryu. Dante would waste Pikachu, and a non-sprite Ganondorf would waste Pikachu. I mean, let's be realistic, Commander Shepard got 40% on Pikachu. An FPS character that has next to no recognizability. O_O I mean, you can say that Shepard wasted Ellis -- but Ratchet also wasted Eddie Riggs.

I would fully take Auron, Charizard, Bowser, Luigi, Yoshi and maybe Dante/Ryu over Mega Man X in close matches. Mega Man X has shown that he doesn't get SFFed by Link in the past -- whereas Mario has been less fortunate -- I'm assuming the latter would apply to Luigi as well.

Uh...no way that Ganondorf beats Pikachu? So you're saying, basically, that you would take Charizard over Sonic? Charizard and Bowser are probably a lot closer in strength than their match indicates due to Nintendo SFF and the release of HG/SS on the same day of the match. Pikachu has never been strong. Charizard is definitely stronger. The only decent looking match Pikachu has ever had was against a Solid **** Snake.

Anyway a much more likely top 20 looks like this:

Analysis

With last round Sephiroth was able to put an end to the final joke character. I could copy and paste my analysis from Sephiroth/Vincent and a lot would apply in this match and to add to it we already saw this match last contest and while that was four-ways the other two characters were fodder so they don’t really count.

Like Vincent I feel that Tifa will avoid SFF in this match. Vincent had more of a reason to get hit, but I think GameFAQs realizes that Sephiroth is going to win anyways so might as well make Tifa look as good as possible. However over the previous rounds Tifa hasn’t really impressed me so there is a chance that Sephiroth performs well and it isn’t SFF, but that could be me underestimating characters like Freeman and Big Daddy.

It’s a shame that Tifa was fed to Sephiroth, but at least she got three matches in before being fed. The range for Tifa is likely her performances against Sephiroth in the previous contest which means she’ll either finish just below Vincent or she will get doubled. I think SBAllen should continue to tease the board by setting Sephiroth up against other Final Fantasy VII characters while avoiding Aerith all together.

Tifa will do very well here I think. She has some good pictures and will benefit from Missingno backlash. She'll have a great board vote and could well break 40%...but it will mean nothing for Seph/Snake.

Backlash? Crono and Pikachu didn't have that when they defeated L-Block.
