Snake will probably end up getting what he got against Squall in 2006 (maybe a bit worse), which means he's still quite strong, but not quite enough to reach Sephiroth's level.

59%-60% on Squall is a good %, higher than his '06 performance. He does get Sephiroth in the day, and we've already seen what Cloud can do with that.

So far I am immensely pleased with this performance. Between Snake's worse board vote (which hopefully implies a relatively better night and/or Power Hour), the comparatively lower percentages put up in this contest, and my own pre-contest expectations I am giving myself license to be stoked about next round.

It really depends on who benefits more from a day match, Snake or Seph. If both benefit the same amount, Seph still has the edge.

And we've already seen the difference between night and day for Cloud, and even Seph/Tifa may give us a hint of how Seph will do in the day despite it being a SFF cluster**** (****ing Jenova division).

Snake would have to be the most anti-voted character in the contest and a day vote god in order to beat Seph. I wouldn't even pick Snake in a night match.

I sincerely believe Samus > Cloud is more likely at this point than Snake > Sephiroth, and even that is incredibly unlikely.

Disc 3 storywise is the Crater, and some minor sidequests, but that's it. Actually, I think the only sidequest storyline that can't be done before disc 3 is getting Red XIII's ultimate weapon, if I'm not mistaken.

If she matches or outdoes Vincent despite a day-match, I'm definitely taking Tifa to beat him head-to-head. I've flip-flopped on Tifa beating him in the past anyway, and now is the best chance to get a comparison. It's not a very accurate comparison considering Tifa stands out a bit more against Sephiroth and Seph/Vincent was at night while Seph/Tifa is at day -- not to mention SFF-matches can only be taken so seriously -- but we've already seen her outperform him several times in other not-fully-reliable ways. Tifa did much better against ZSS than Vincent did against Samus-with-Ganondorf or Samus-with-Pikachu, plus Tifa did considerably better against Seph in her two four-way matches from 2008 than Vincent did against him in 2007 (though LPF definitely played a part there thanks to Link and Mario). Tifa also almost matched Vincent's percentage against Gordon Freeman, the most reliable comparison they have; she got 61.96% on him this year compared to Vincent getting 62.05% during R2 in 2008 (or 63.03% if you want to use R3, though Samus/Ganon take a considerably bigger sum of the percentage than Scorpion/Falco). You have to cross formats to do that, however, so it's not perfect either.

Then again though, there's the Sonic-comparison where Vincent did several percent better, but that was the contest after he got DoC:FF7 and FF7:AC. Tifa didn't get her own side-game, but she was in KH2 and had a bigger role in FF7:AC than Vincent, so...it'd be a good battle. It's hard to pick against Vincent, but before their contest-debuts I would have taken her over him since *insert incorrect theories about being an optional character* and we've seen KH2 help Auron since 2006 so it'd probably help Tifa too. I'd chance it if she can get about what Vincent got, especially if Tifa beats his percentage.

And in happy news, Snake has moved ahead of where he was at this time in 2006, and unlike that year has done a LOT less freefalling. Squall probably makes some movement overnight, but Snake might be able to make his own move in the morning if this year has been any indication.

Well, there's still hope for Snake > Sephy based on this match, but only if you think Sephy SFFd Vincent to a good degree, which I don't believe. Good thing I switched that back in my bracket, heh.

There doesn't really need to be *that* much SFF in Seph/Vincent for Snake to contend with Sephy... and I would be surprised if he resisted it entirely there just based on past evidence. Seph has gotten *some* SFF even in his disappointing affairs - Auron 2k4 comes to mind here.

Completely random, but I was talking to Leon about this the other day, and I don't think anyone else has posted about this. Seeing as we're in a Snake match, maybe now would be a good time to bring it up.

I think MGS shares an overlap with "casual-bait" characters. It might explain a few things.

1) Altair getting 59% on Liquid.
2) Ocelot losing to Jill in '08 despite MGS4 and beating her the year before (Kratos being in the poll). Link/MMX confounds things, but I'd wager Ocelot looked pretty decent after Red went out and got 40% on MMX despite all the Mega Man domination we've seen this year.
3) Liquid going from being equal to Alucard, to getting absolutely dominated once Master Chief arrives.
4) Hayabusa getting destroyed every time he runs into Snake.

Might be completely ridiculous, but just throwing it out there. I wonder what would happen to Dante if he ever ran into Snake 1 vs. 1.

So Liquid > Tenpenny was SFF, eh? Plus then you have Snake SFFing Kratos enough for L-Block to sneak through, eeps. And then there's MGS2 and Vice City possibly hurting each other...nah, surely not? And...MGS being leeched by Deus Ex? MGS2 being leeched by Morrowind? Halo 2 being SFFd by MGS3? MGS4 SFFing everything in its half division?

And may I please see the x-stats and stat seeding for the Mushroom and Midgar Divisions, please?
