Snake is the only conceivable threat against Mario. I think Mario would effortlessly beat Snake around the 53% area, but Snake does have a shot there since his last real match against Mario or Samus was 2006, when he barely lost to Samus and had just gotten his game-changing boost.

Still, I think people have been overrating the hell out of Snake because of four-ways. He went from losing to Samus to upsetting SFFed Sephiroth in the Battle Royale in the span of a few days. That shows how much more Snake benefits from four-ways, not to mention his big bandwagon in 2008. That's why it's kinda surprising to see the support he has here, not to mention many of the Gurus actually picking him over Sephiroth. Come on, I was a big supporter of four-way stats being accurate after accounting for the cluster**** of LFF, and even I knew Snake was a four-way creation. Sephiroth's going to kill Snake so badly that the stats will suggest Yoshi > Snake. Thanks, Missingno!

Anyway, for the fiftieth time this contest I'm on the cusp of the leaderboard, only being one point away, though twenty people stand in my way. And once again, I'm going to miss it because of a bad pick, this time for real killing my bracket off completely. Of course, my Kratos > Sora upset may still be feasible if Charizard can give Bowser a very close match. Yeah, HG/SS boost, but pretend we're seeing GoW3 boost here! I can at least be right about my upset, even if neither character I chose to make it this far actually made it this far!

Too ****ing bad I'm gonna miss the start of Bowser/Charizard. The last potentially great match we have left.

Heh Wylvane I feel you.I am at the leaderboard now BUT I have Sora winning.If I had Bowser it would be the first time a contest ends and I would be in the leaderboard.In the previous character contest I was on the leaderboard until the semi-finals match.Well better luck nex year.

I've never gone below the 97th percentile since the end of round 1 of the first division, but I've also never made it onto the leaderboard :(

So if Bowser/Zard turns out not to be a great match, there's a real possibility the last CBVIII match with any significant drama will be Sephiroth/Missingno.

What a feather for the "jokes provide entertainment that normal matches don't" argument that would be!

Squall isn't reversing a 57-43 beating in 2 years, when Snake has looked far stronger after Brawl/MGS4. Squall's ceiling is 53%, which is still impressive and puts him over where I see Sonic being.

Analysis

The Heart Division has not been kind to me. Out of the 35 points that I’ve lost in this contest so far 14 or 40% of them have come from this division. Including this match I will have gotten 7/15 matches wrong here. That’s just pathetic. Anyways this match at least has some comfort due to both opponents being badass Nintendo characters. In a normal match I feel that Bowser should take a comfortable win, but will the release of a Pokemon game be enough to swing the support?

As impressive as Charizard has been in this contest I don’t think he’s reached the level of Bowser yet. However his performance against L-Block last round was rather impressive. Luigi and Bowser are rather close in the stats and I would take L-Block over WCC in a match so that doesn’t really leave Bowser with much breathing room. At the same time L-Block and WCC are joke characters so we don’t know how reliable they are and at the same time Charizard’s performance against Kratos didn’t exactly scream out Bowser level strength.

The main factor everyone is talking about is the release of Pokemon Heart Gold and Soul Silver on the day of the match. While the match could have a winner change if it is close I don’t think that the factor will be as large as some people expect. First of all the hype for this game is nowhere near the amount games like Halo 3 or Super Mario Sunshine had. Second it seems that the people that are hyping for it are already Pokemon fans and would have thus voted for Charizard anyways. Finally this game is a remake so less newer people would come to GameFAQs for help because it is likely that those people have already played Pokemon GSC.

Bowser is the safe bet in this match, but I don’t want to rule out Charizard just yet. This division may have not been kind to my bracket, but it was kind to my tastes. Out of the 14 matches in this division 12 went according to my tastes. This is one of the final interesting matches left in this contest so let’s hope that this ends up being interesting.

Agreed. Amazing how we can get some pretty nice upsets in this one (along with wackiness like Pikachu > Snake for 20 minutes), and some people are still claiming this contest is set in stone. Anything can happen, especially in the bracket's lower half.
