So why exactly are people backing Snake? MM has looked about equal. Just because Snake has beaten him before doesn't matter if something happening once doesn't mean it will happen again, right?

His point is that you can ask precisely the reverse.

I don't think it's really true though. Snake's win over Fox was a bit better than any of MM's performances this year, I think.

I'll wait until Mega Man faces someone we have an absolute solid read on (i.e., Mario) before I give him any chance against Snake. Beating Cid, Zack, and sprite Hayabusa isn't enough for me, honestly. We don't really have a completely clear idea on where those guys stand.

Of course the only thing that is clear from those matches is that he is definitely stronger than Sonic!

Against a complete unknown, a relative unknown, and an awful sprite?

Not all that convinced yet. Strong performances, no doubt, but still not entirely sure what those are worth yet.

Nah, I wouldn't even go that far. I'd favor Mega Man if I had to pick, but maybe you're right about Lightning > Cid. I'm not in the same camp with you there, but it's possible, I guess.

To argue that Snake didn't peak with Brawl/MGS4 is ludicrous. Snake really has nothing going for him anymore, and he'll slip into the same gradual decline that Crono is stuck in, unless they make another MGS that features him prominently.

Cool beans -- now you're being reasonable.

I still think the match against Kirby will be inconclusive, but I'd probably favor Snake/Mega Man over Sonic if Sonic can't break 58% on Kirby.

I do think that Snake has dropped back down to Mega Man/Sonic levels though. Sprite or not 55% on Pikachu is pathetic. It's likely the Brawl/MGS4 hype has died off and he's gone down to more modest levels that, while not as bad as he was when Mega used to whoop him, still low enough for Sonic and Mega Man to contend.

Less than 15 minutes until the insanity begins.

Missingno could win this, but getting a bandwagon is most important here. Rallying alone just won't be enough, but it will serve the following 2 purposes:

1. Help Missingno pad a huge lead on Sephiroth quicker than expected if Missingno was only bandwagoned, but had no rallying.
2. If the match is close near the end, the rallying would help Missingno pull off the close win.

Missingno hasn't gotten a bandwagon yet, and that could be explained by the fact that bandwagons simply don't happen early in the contest. I don't know if any cases where a character was bandwagoned in a round 2 match. They usually happen later on in the contest.

The last character battle had Solid be about a thousand votes shy of beating Mega Man and Zero combined. Mega Man's been looking close to Solid's level and might even be on it, but between last year and Solid beating Fox nicely, it's hard to give Mega Man that kind of benefit of the doubt until he does even more. Even his Haybusa beat-down doesn't look that impressive compared to Solid -- Mega did ~.5% better than Solid did in 2008 but ~4% worse than Solid in 2007.

Mega Man just has more proving to do, which is hard to ask of him because he's already doing much better than he has in recent years for whatever reason.

Vincent-like predictions? Most of us were working assuming a Megaman that hadn't boosted before that match, which means Vincent-like predictions would have been for a very close match. The actual predictions were mostly in the high 50s.

Sora would likely 60 - 40 Cid. But anyway...Bowser has always been strong I don't know why you wouldn't expect him to have beaten Sora -- or at least have a very good chance at it. Remember Bowser almost beat Snake, and trashed Ryu. Both of whom are strong as, or stronger than Sora.

It's true though, I never argued Proto Man as anything more than a low midcarder. Hayabusa beat Master Chief and managed to edge out Zero in '08 (though '08 was probably the strongest Hayabusa we've seen due to NG2).
