Ranking the near-elites is an interesting thing to do right now. A lot of strong characters are really close to each other.

1-3 Clinkeroth
4-6 Mario/Snake/Samus
7 Mega Man
8 Sonic
9-10 Vincent/Crono (possibly Squall > Crono)
11 Squall (unless 10)
12-13 Auron/Tifa
14-16 Bowser/Charizard/Pikachu (Zard and Pika have a chance to take #13 from Bowser with a Zard win)

here's where it gets really crowded. Sora, Gannon, Yoshi, Luigi, Mega Man X, Kirby, Ryu, Dante, and Zero are probably 17-25, but the order is almost entirely up for debate (except for a few obvious ones, like Ryu > Dante and Luigi > Zero for example). A few of the higher ones might even be above the pokemon or Bowser, but I personally doubt it.

oh yeah, and Missingno. Forgot about him. He's probably around eighth or so, obviously above Crono, probably Vincent and possibly Sonic...but it doesn't matter because as soon as he loses or this contest ends he drops to midcarder level and anyone on this list beats him easily.

Nah Zero has looked better than Luigi so far this contest, unless you want to suggest The Boss > Marcus Fenix, which would be tough to think about after seeing each character's '07 run.

In a day match zero/auron would have been a bit closer, so I'm not so sure about auron being quite that high. He'd probably lose to tifa.

Off-Topic: So far World of Warcraft and Half-Life 2 seem to be the most popular picks for Best Game of the Decade. Also, none of the games that made our Game of the Decade poll have been given the honor anywhere else yet. Out of those games, Resident Evil 4 has gotten closest to getting the honor, and (gasp) Super Mario Galaxy has gotten second closest to getting the honor.

Discuss.

GameFAQs not treating Super Mario Galaxy as one of the greatest games made this generation is pretty sad.

It's ironic to think that Galaxy gets SFFd badly by Brawl considering that Galaxy was the only game the Nintendo Power staff unanimously chose to take the top spot on its game system, and the only Mario game to get a top spot (yes, for the top two on each console they have LoZ > SMB3, LttP > SMW, OoT > SM64, RE4 > WW, but then SMG > TP). But, uh, these guys also had Mega Man 2 ahead of Super Mario Bros. and Wind Waker ahead of Melee, so...yeah.

Because, *GASP* noone cares what professional reviewers think. The average gamer wants to play games that are mindless fun, like Brawl. Galaxy is a decent game, but it was absolutely silly to think that because the hardcore tourney nerds spout "M3l33 > barlw!!!!!!!!11111111111" because they couldn't adapt to the new game, that Brawl was unpopular.

I have a feeling the Pokemon may be a bit overrated. In a fair match, Leon smashed Pikachu in 07. Sprite Snake has been known to be disastrous for him. We have no idea where Kratos is, so Charizard may be overrated as well.

Also, Bowser got beat by Ryu in 07, before Ryu may have been boosted this year with T vs C and SSFIV. At the very least, Bowser is not a tier above that big group you mentioned. KH has really gone down this year, so far down that Axel looks worse than Balthier, lol. It doesn't make sense because of KH's handheld games, but every KH character seems to have fallen.

I think they're tied, actually, looking at it. Squall would be pretty easily ahead of him if not for the Villains Contest though. Gives Bowser an extra 3 wins, but I suppose Bowser can take the overall lead if he beats Charizard.

What do you mean comments like that? You guys are the biggest Sonic haters there is, and I'm relatively tame about Sonic compared to the fanboyism you guys show towards characters like Crono because of his performances in 4ways despite clearly being on the decline in 1v1.

You realize that strength in 1v1 and 4ways are not linear, and that of course Crono is going to look better in 4 ways than he does in 1v1 because while he's not gaining any new fanbase, and he is losing some, his fanbase is very dedicated and would most likely vote him over any other option in his polls.

Anyway, I'm not going to get into a debate about it.

Sonic can't put up 40%. I have a hard time seeing him do better than MMX. I see no reason why Mario can't, especially with how damn awful Zelda has looked this contest

I think Sonic will break 40% on Link, but I'm not sure Mario will.

MMX got 32%. You expect Sonic to do less than that? I put 35% at the minimum.

Clearly nothing is going to change your mind on Sonic, short of Kirby actually winning (not happening). You'll probably dismiss Link getting 70% as SFF (which would be partially correct).
