From: LinkMarioSamus | #103 It's not so much that. Falcon has obviously boosted somewhat to beat Riku (more or less it's a combination of Kingdom Hearts dropping off and boosting), but you can't use 2006's numbers and compare them with this. No one is blowing out people in the old style of blowouts a lot of older people here are accustomed to. "70% is the new 80%" is a wise saying. At the end of the day, Falcon doesn't look at that great here. As for crazy Samus supporters... there's no chance of it. Sub-Zero > Falcon any day, any time and by a decent margin. --- :> |
voltch | Posted 3/10/2010 2:57:35 AM | message detail |

As for crazy Samus supporters... there's no chance of it. Sub-Zero > Falcon any day, any time and by a decent margin. I'm so confused now...You say Samus can't beat Cloud and then you say Sub-Zero>>Captain? Samus beat Sub-Zero by around as much as Cloud beat Falcon! Not saying Samus will beat Cloud, just saying your post confused me. |

Crono looks like he'll 55-45 Link based on this match. Now, if we use
the more fair 2008 results, and assume Pikachu didn't SFF Falcon at all
(any SFF makes Crono look even better), Crono's projected to get 47.52%
on Cloud. Awesome. --- Missingno's quest to avenge Crono - Round 3: Sephiroth!!! Link's quest to save us from the oppression of the jokes- Round 4: Luigi |

Damn, Cloud really did a number on the Captain with his monstrous night vote. Samus is so screwed. Still, a solid performance from Falcon. He's still going to do better against Cloud than he did against 2006 Crono, and in a night match compared to a 24-hour match to boot, so he's definitely boosted quite a bit. Funny that he'll end up stronger than Chris. I really hope next year all the #1 seeds have day matches instead of night matches. Then I wouldn't mind finally having a Mario/Cloud rematch! --- Not Wylvane |
vcharon | Posted 3/10/2010 5:06:47 AM | message detail |
This is probably just the yearly fad. I wouldn't bet on the 12 hour matches returning next time. --- :> |

From: vcharon | #119 Pretty sure Bacon has said he plans to do this again until it gets stale. And I hope he does, since this is even more fun than traditional 1v1's. The only problem is that it's exhausting as hell watching two matches a day! --- Not Wylvane |
vcharon | Posted 3/10/2010 5:13:39 AM | message detail |
Perhaps, but I'd be surprised if the next character battle didn't have a theme/gimmick/whatever, even if this format is kept. --- :> |

From: Not_Wylvane | #120 That's what you call a good problem to have! 12 hour matches are great in almost every way. Hopefully they're here to stay for a while, at least until the 4096-character 30 minute match gimmick tournament! --- Guru contest: Burned by Zard Yoshi > Missingno Believe!! |

From: Safer Sephiroth 777 | #123 I think Bacon's big on 128-character contests, and 24 hour ones would last four months. It'd take two months just to go through Round 1. People would lose interest and get tired of them, plus Bacon probably would get tired of running contest polls for four months without being able to post "Got Console?" polls. Two months is fine for a contest, and this is probably the best way to do things. At the least, it lets us bypass boring matches more quickly and keeps the larger field so we can get more characters in while still getting 1v1's. It's a step up from the LFF-laden fourways, anyway. --- Not Wylvane |
LeonhartFour | Posted 3/10/2010 6:11:15 AM | message detail |

Too
bad Samus has to take this guy in a night match! I'm all for starting
the contest with a day match next year, even if it'll result in two
extra twelve-hour blocks to waste! So will Cloud be breaking 70% by the end of this? --- Not Wylvane |
Safer Sephiroth 777 | Posted 3/10/2010 6:12:30 AM | message detail |
Yeah
because polls like<Got console?>are so exciting right? But anyway
I guess that 4 months is a lot.Plus most matches aren't close anyway so
it doesn't matter if the character is a night vote or a day vote master. --- GameFaqs is NOT the place to go for relationship advice.Nobody here gets any action unless it is their right or left hand.Including me.~Dawn and Dusk~ |

One
of the main problems is that I don't see the contest going back to 64
characters. We'd lose too many good characters and rallying new
characters would be useless since they would likely bump a stronger
character. --- Board 8 BOP: http://www.freewebs.com/charmander6000/CB8%20BOP.xls Character Battle VIII - 133/168 - Today's Winners: Cloud and Ryu |

From: irriadin | #133 That'd only extend the contest by 15 or so days, and at that point it'd be great to see characters perform in full 24-hour matches, so I think it'd be a great idea. At the very least, they should do it at Round 4 or so, since it'd only add six days or so. Round 3 would probably be best since that's when the competition gets tough and day/night matches could really affect some of the closer matches. --- Not Wylvane |

Match CVIII: (3) Leon Kennedy vs. (7) Ryu Last Round Leon Kennedy – 64.81% Sackboy – 35.19% Ryu – 50.35% Dante – 49.65% Analysis This is the final match of this Capcom trio and while some people liked to give Leon a chance in this group I never really saw it. If Ryu defeated Dante then what’s stopping him from defeating Leon? Did people think that Resident Evil 5 would provide him a boost or did the gurus forget that they just picked Ryu to defeat Dante in the round before? I guess Leon should be glad that his opponent isn’t Dante. I have a feeling that the pairing was becoming something like a contest tradition and considering that the two have never been close enough to warrant a rematch I’m glad that Ryu was able to pull off the upset. Still I see no reason for Leon to close the gap when Ryu just proved to be more or less equal to Dante and the match picture doesn’t help him. This has got to be one of the most unfair pictures of the contest on one side we have a perfect Ryu sprite with a badass action shot in the background. On the other side we have a sprite of a generic person holding a gun. The picture almost makes Solid Snake’s sprite seem like a fair picture. Any casual support Leon was expecting is more or less gone, heck even his name is generic, at least Solid Snake can score points based on name. Before the picture I expected Ryu to take a close, but safe win. However after seeing the picture Ryu could break 60% and I wouldn’t be surprised. Ryu may have been shafted in the previous contest by being given a hard path, but he has shown in this contest that he can compete with some of the strongest opponents in the bracket. charmander6000’s Bracket: Ryu > Leon Kennedy charmander6000’s Prediction: Ryu wins, 58.07% - 41.93% --- Board 8 BOP: http://www.freewebs.com/charmander6000/CB8%20BOP.xls Character Battle VIII - 133/168 - Today's Winners: Cloud and Ryu |
