Match CVII: (1) Cloud Strife vs. (4) Captain Falcon Last Round Cloud Strife – 71.99% Chris Redfield – 28.01% Riku – 47.52% Captain Falcon – 52.48% Analysis Other than to see the results of pairing one of the worst board votes with one of the best there isn’t much to talk about this match. Is Captain Falcon as strong as his numbers suggest or has Riku dropped in overall strength? We may never know due to this being a night match, but at least we didn’t end up with another SFF match giving us another contest where we don’t know Falcon’s strength. Cloud was able to redeem himself by defeating Chris by more than he defeated Ridley proving that it was just Ridley looking half decent. Captain Falcon may be a decent mid-card, but so was Chris and look at what happened to him. Cloud is on a different planet compare to most of these characters and unlike Link Cloud has so far had an easier route to the finals though that will change starting in a couple of rounds. I wouldn’t be surprised if Captain Falcon performs worse than Chris, especially considering that this is a night match. Keep
in mind earlier: I said holding Zelda and Phoenix constant with their
2008 numbers gives Zelda a 61%~ victory over Jecht today. That's not
much of a difference than what we're seeing here. I'm very pleased
Jecht broke 40% here in this match, but I'm hesitant to chalk all this
up to FFXIII because he's still an unknown. --- Squall Leonhart is the worst Final Fantasy character ever created. |

Falcon's kinda iffy and Sephiroth's against Missingno so who the hell knows what will happen, but at least Tifa/Big Daddy should give us a good indicator about the presence FF13 will have on this site. If it's big enough, then between it and Zelda sucking, there might actually be a reason for the Cloud > Link clamoring to return! Wow,
a Jecht Shot from hell into Zelda's performance here. This isn't the
same princess who put up 57% on Aeris (and think of how close Jecht

months of football. Half the city follows spring ball too. Same with
Columbus. But we get 8 months of sports. 4 months of Buckeye football,
then 2 of Buckeye basketball, then 2 of spring ball, then 4 months of
depression. |

would clearly smoke Jecht -- but Jecht probably beats Altair
considering what Ezio got relative to Jecht. Again though it's close
enough where it could probably go either way depending on the time of

like the Zelda series a lot (I'd call Zelda 1, LTTP, Ocarina and Link's
Awakening perfect games, and I also love Zelda 2), but anyone who
denies Curt having a good point here is being stubborn. The Zelda
series is the same game 10 times. Also, gamers are the worst type of
people. If a series stays the same, people whine it's too much of the
same. If it changes, people whine. If the series doesn't release new
games for a long time, people whine. I'd hate having me as an audience.
And TP as the best Zelda is laughable. Zelda has always been highlighted by good dungeons, but in TP you have to do SO MUCH GIMMICKY SIDE CRAP for the first half of the game. It isn't until you enter the Arbiter's Grounds and start dungeon-hopping that the game stops being garbage, but even then it's meh. The original characters in that game are all terrible. Ganondorf and Zelda were shoehorned into the game and are still better than everyone else. It's a perfect microcosm. Nintendo is good when they stick to old hat, but completely falls apart whenever they try anything new. loved OoT, but I stopped playing Zelda games half way through Majora's
Mask when I was like 'something is familiar about this...' You guys might enjoy playing the same game 10 times with slight updates...but not me. actually liked Midna. Sure, she was obnoxious, but she was actually
decently developed and by the end even likable. Plus it's nice when
they actually add a new character that doesn't suck. I'd rather have
another character like Midna than a character like Navi or Tingle. It would've been nice if they actually gave Zelda and Ganondorf something to do besides play their token roles, though. Both were great in WW but were pretty much tacked on here for tradition's sake. --- Not Wylvane |

Terrible
ending? I thought it was a beautiful way to end both the game and
Midna's character development. There was complete closure with her, at

depression. Yeah, but I'd think more people follow basketball here than spring football (men's basketball, even though our women's team is legendary). Football in the fall reigns over everything though. Anyway, do/did you live in Knoxville? About LoZ: the series is in need of a shake-up, but by all means the formula has been great and put out some of the best games of all time. I quit playing LoZ:TP early on though...the wolf's seaching-quests were killing me and I was on a borrowed Wii. I'd love to see the series take more of a LoZ:WW-direction if they hid/killed Tingle and gave it some difficulty...but whatever the case, they've got the problem of figuring out the things they want to keep that won't make the games feel like "just another LoZ-game" and things they want to remove without getting the internet to hate it in a hurry. I remember an interview where it was said LoZ:WW's reception to its graphics nearly ended the series and another interview a few years ago where Nintendo agreed the series needs a change-up...so it'll be fun to see what happens with this next LoZ-game. --- T E A M C H O C O L A T E http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/7355/64590879.png |

The
one problem with that poll is that Fox is the only one of those
characters that has any real popularity from something other than
Smash. I'm not saying it means nothing, but do we really think Fox
almost doubles CF in a 1v1? If so, then unless Cloud gets 75%+ tonight,
we're almost calling Fox a near-elite. |

Eh,
Zelda doesn't have the same level of innovation as, say, the 3D Mario
and Metroid games have. Mario went from SM64 to Sunshine, which added a
water pack that actually helped with platforming and added a few unique
things, which were pretty neat (though actually washing stuff was
dumb), even if most people hated it. Then came Galaxy, which really
took things 3D and made great use of the Wiimote in simple yet fun
ways. Metroid tried adding a Dark World and Ammo (meh) and then tried
to model itself more as a FPS with an actual storyline and such. Only notable deviation for 3D Zelda is WW's graphics. TP was kind of a let down after the insane hype, yeah, but overall it's still a great game and I still think it's an improvement over OoT. --- Not Wylvane |
