Fellas, buy whatever you like, but that 52% win over Mega Man became a 62.5% win in the next match. Was Yoshi responsible for all of that? I very much doubt it.

I'd doubt that even more.

I think the sprite was partially responsible for that, yes. Give everyone in the pic 3D pictures and badass 3D Samus wins by more than 52%. She also did better on Mario in 2008 despite being Last Place Factor'd. Difference? No sprites.

And I think this is just Zelda not being as strong as she used to be more than anything else. 70% on Travis Touchdown was a really weak performance. If Altair and Ezio are equal, Vivi gets 42.85% on her. Any more Altair is stronger, and that number goes up.

We all make choices, but in the end our choices make us.

You might be able to fault Samus's NES-sprite some in Mega/Yoshi/Samus/Scorp...but Yoshi's definitely the bigger driving force for her under-performance and Samus had her SNES-sprite against Sub-Zero, so I don't get the argument. Super Metroid done respectably here time and time again; it won the Metroid-poll in 2004 and beat MP in 2005's Top 100 List (brought it back!), blew out fodder in both BGE-contests (Phantasy Star 4, Gunstar Heroes), and was clutch enough to beat Super Mario Kart twice (once with LoZ:LttP in the poll and DKC in the poll)...while we saw MP become arguably the weakest 3D-Nintendo game in the contest. If we could have ever seen SM face something not from Nintendo, I think we'd see it look a lot better than it has in the past.

Regardless, Super Metroid is her biggest game outside of the SSB-series and the sprite is representative of her. Sub-Zero had a good picture, but I think of them as being pretty even there.

Phoenix and Ratchet are fodder, though, so it's not too farfetched to think Jecht could be near-fodder.

FF13's helping, but even despite that this is still a good performance by Jecht. I don't know if I'd take him over Tidus, but I'm definitely enjoying him continuously outdoing his son in this contest.

Jecht making Round 3 in his first contest while Tidus, who has been in every contest, has never been past Round 2 may be my favorite contest trivia tidbit.

Phoenix wasn't very strong in four-ways and he broke GFNW in his only other one-on-one match, so I don't have much faith in him being strong. Ratchet has notoriously sucked in every match he had ever been in until this year, so either this is a really weak four-pack, a new game FINALLY helped him, or there was a general site-shift that was favorable to him. FF13's probably masking what Jecht should normally get against Zelda (and it doesn't hurt that she hasn't been impressing and her pic's poor anyway), so I'm not ready to give our typical fodder credit yet.

And Eddie Riggs sucks a ton no matter what we do to the numbers.

I'm curious how Shepard would have done in the sprite round, since even his ME1 model looks amazing compared to rough PS1 models and unrecognizable sprites.
