How can MM be so popular?I am the only one that hasn't played a single MM game?

Classic game series of over 20 years, over 50 titles, great character design, and one of the most fondly remembered platforming series ever. Its not a surprise that Mega Man would be strong at all. He fits all the criteria of Sonic, and would you think Sonic wouldn't be popular?

Why haven't they ever made a CT sequel?

Sonic and MM have had huge potential to increase in power. One reason is they were both pretty absent in the 32/64bit era overall. Introducing them in a positive manner to people who never played their games will obviously be able to boost them nicely.

I don' know how true that is. We rip Sonic Team because we expected better, but from what I've seen Sonic Adventure and SA2:B were pretty well received.

I still think CTDS did do something substantial for the CT characters. Only most of it seems to have occurred in 2008, before the game came out due to excitement. Magus actually looked decent after what Alucard pulled against Link, and was inconclusive one way or the other. If Bowser does well tonight, that would be very nice for Frog.

I'm disappointed that they apparently got most of their boosts in 2008, but hey, Bowser could go and get 55% on Sora and indicate a nice post-release boost too!

MM dropping now. If we assume Ryu H > Ike, then MM > Mario may not be as big a blowout as five-minute stats would have indicated.

And Sonic 4 could do plenty for Sonic. Sonic's not like Mario where he's so well known already he won't even feel the effect of a new release on his contest strength. He's iconic, but only to those who started gaming before the PS/N64, or at least people who started gaming after that only know him as an icon of the previous generation.

Umm seriously, I've been being a little facetious because IT'S FREAKING MARIO, but why aren't we all getting on the Mega Man > Mario train? Are we really saying Ike > Ryu H? Do we have any evidence on how that match would go?

Remember that Mega Man doesn't really start turning things up until the mid-afternoon on weekends, then he just goes on a tear right through to midnight. Hayabusa has another hour, maybe 2 to cut percentage before he gets buried.

2004 Sonic gets 70% on Bad Design Ryu in 2004.

Krahen Prophet did a fatality.

Mario has been higher in the stats than samus/snake for past 3 or 4 years now. Same snake who left mm at 44.5% in 2k6, prior to mgs4 release. MM failed to beat samus with yoshi in a poll as well. MM might have boosted, he can get closer, but I don't think it will really be close match. 45% for MM is good imo.

Yeah, but Zelda was in that poll and did relatively well, kp. You can't deny SFF there. But I think MM is worth 55% minimum on X, so depending on how much Zelda SFFed Mario, this could get very close.
But looking at this round, I'm not liking Mario's chances at all.

Why are people freaking out over this? I've been one of Ryu H's strongest advocates (I took him over MC) and I knew Mega Man was going to utterly dominate him here. That picture just screams "Solid ****" underperformance...especially deadly when Ryu H's strength comes from his design.

Yeah, I'm not denying that X was benefiting from LFF or anything.

It just shows that Mario isn't invincible. He isn't going to win due to mystical SFF or anything. If he beats MM, it's because he's stronger.

The UK and Australia are killing MM here, though I can't really think Australia has so many votes right now.

MM has been dropping in the US pretty rapidly, he was at 74% earlier, now 72s. If it keeps up ryu might never stop rising.

I wasn't calling you out on who you think would win. "smash" MM isn't a great way to say it though lol. I'd put MM over Sonic this year simply because he's been impressing more. I think it's Mm10 hype/release. Next year with StH4 out. I'd most likely give it to Sonic if it was received well. Either way, I'd give it to Mm 49/51 this year.

Ok, let's play that game. Sonic looked better than MM in the most recent 1v1 contest. So MM beating Sonic in the past (in a very close match) is thrown out the window. Sonic beat the guy, that beat MM (fairly handily). Sonic pulled up 57% on Ganondorf which, by all measures, is more impressive than what MM is doing here. I mean, Hayabusa has never been a stellar contest character. I mean, DANTE beat Hayabusa with nearly 66% in the last 1v1 contest. Hayabusa was likely stronger then than he is now -- and this is about what MM should be projected to do on Hayabusa (it's worse that his sprite is pretty bad, for those of you who believe that).

Anyway, this is by no means a stellar MM performance. Sonic beating Ganondorf by 7% is more impressive.

You can only blame the picture for so much. This is a very good performance from Mega Man. So much so that I'd probably say Mega Man ends up being the strongest of the 3 NN weak links when all's said and done.
