So is this Ike avoiding SFF becuase he has a bit of his own fanbase for FE and because maybe Mario did not gain so many fans from Brawl? Or should we assume that this should be uglier but we're just following this year's trend of not getting crazy blowouts.

Good point, even for a contest like this. Yeah, in the magical, ****ed-up world of four-ways you can even expect to find triplings in the finals, but in 1v1's the only triplings that should be happening are huge SFF matches.

Hell, I think even Jecht and Big Daddy will escape being tripled, unless they're close to the likes of boosted Guybrush.

Crash Bandicoot isn't a decent opponent? :( haha, but actually his performance looks decent now Ryu beat Chief. I think Crash is a unique case in that he seems to be actually gaining in strength despite getting more and more irrelevant... I can't think of any other character who is showing this phenomenon.

Analysis

I guess Master Chief showed why he’s considered to be one of the biggest chokes in contest history. Hayabusa has come a long way from defeating Jill by 27 votes and being first round stepping stones for stronger characters. Of course with it being the sprite round Hayabusa gets to perform in his 8-bit glory. Mega Man on the other hand has looked really great over the past two rounds dispatching two Final Fantasy VII characters with decent strength.

Mega Man should have no problems winning this match, but I have a feeling that Mega Man has a great chance at scoring a higher win against Hayabusa compare to his first two round opponents. Zack Fair while a bit overrated based on the board’s standard is still a decent character. Even if he did pick up a little SFF against Yuna she is still a half decent character and I feel that last round was more Mega Man being strong rather than Zack being that weak. The board gave Cid a hard time in the first round, but in reality he only performed a couple of percent worse than Zack.

Hayabusa on the other hand seems to fall apart when confronted with stronger opponents. I’m still having trouble finding the relation between Solid Snake and Hayabusa besides both being badass, but why didn’t Master Chief capitalize on that? Either way I feel confident that this will be Mega Man’s easiest match especially with Hayabusa getting a sprite picture.

I don't understand this MM tripling talk. Hayabusa's not that weak; he beat Zero last year. Pit and Dedede or not, that was an impressive performance, and MM only got 62% on Zero last year, after SFF.

Also, I'm hoping for a monster performance from Mega Man today. I want that Zack domination not to be us overrating ZackFAQs. Of all the bottom rungs of the NN, Mega Man's the one I don't want to see fall off, and he's doing a good job of proving he's got gas left in the tank.

I have to agree with Paul. There has been more than one instance of a character defeating Master Chief one round and then looking good the round afterwards, only to disappoint in later contests. Aeris, StarCraft, Frog, Crono, maybe Sub-Zero, L-Block, Kirby...but I don't think anybody got a bandwagon in '09 from defeating a Halo game, right?
