Jecht's bound to be the weakest character reaching R3. He's the only FF-character who needed Dissidia to make it into a contest, we've seen Sin bomb before (I understand they're rather connected in FFX), and he let Ratchet do rather well on him last round. It wouldn't be surprising to see Phoenix not be strong one-on-one again anyway.

I don't know, I think I'd still take Jecht > Big Daddy.

Results thus far:

Jecht:
R1: 52.70% vs. Phoenix Wright
R2: 56.16% vs. Ratchet

Big Daddy:
R1: 61.75% vs. Soap MacTavish
R2: 54.36% vs. Ness

Okay, the x-stats for 2008 aren't listed for some reason, but using 2007 numbers...Ness is stronger than Phoenix. Wait, what? Oh, here, Phoenix actually faced Geno in 2008; put up 59.14% directly...which is not as good as what Ness did. Then again, Ness had SFF on his side--Earthbound and Super Mario RPG are both popular SNES RPGs. On the other hand, Geno should've been SFFed even harder in 2008, because Bowser was in that same fourpack. And yet Big Daddy did better against Ness than Jecht did against Phoenix. Okay, retract that statement; Big Daddy > Jecht. Yet somehow, I just can't bring myself to believe that... Maybe Phoenix boosted? There was a new Ace Attorney game out recently, even if Phoenix wasn't the star... Ah, screw it, I'll concede: I underestimated Big Daddy, big time. I'll admit, I'm not real familiar with...Bioshock's an XBox 360 series, right? PS3? Both? I don't even know, because I have an irrational loyalty to the old guard, which is to say, Nintendo--my only non-Nintendo system is a Sega Genesis, which is likewise an old-school company. I try to keep up with the trends of the other systems' games (and I'm seriously considering breaking this whole "loyalty" thing and getting a PS3--partially because I'm finding it harder and harder to resist the call of Final Fantasy, and partly because Disgaea DS left me wanting more of the franchise), but...I've never been an FPS guy regardless. I'm out of my league here, which is why I'd naturally gravitate toward the RPG character--and on this site, that's usually a sound strategy when you're in doubt. (Hell, if you think about it hard enough, the latest unholy terror of jokeFEAR, Missingno., is also technically an RPG character. But I try to ignore that.)

...Yeah, Jecht's definitely the weakest character in Round 3. Which actually makes me feel better, because I was stunned when Jecht got that first win right on the back of Tidus's loss. At the time, I blamed it on the fact that Jecht had the FF night vote going for him; now I realize that Jecht merely had a far weaker opponent, and Sub-Zero > Tidus > Jecht > Phoenix. Seems that I, like most Board 8ers, overestimated Phoenix...again.

Damn, I'm rambling.

Analysis

This is quite easily the least cared about match in the entire round and should Mario pick up SFF this match has the potential to be the largest blowout of the round. Even if we disregard SFF Big Boss was probably the bigger threat to Mario than Ike. Too bad though since we still have no information on Ike post Brawl boost and the longer we wait the weaker Ike will look.

The only question for this match is whether or not Mario will SFF Ike. In the first round we saw Mario picking up some SFF on Falco, but the way this contest has been going it seems that SFF is something difficult to achieve. If Vincent could avoid getting killed by Sephiroth then who else can look good? In the previous contest Ike did pretty well at avoiding SFF against Pikachu, but Mario is on a different planet when it comes to SFF.

I think Mario will get some SFF in this match, but like with Falco it won’t be as much as we are use to. GameFAQs seems to be on an anti-blowout streak, but I feel confident that Mario has a great chance at getting the blowout of the round for the second time this contest.
