Jecht vs. Sin: Who wins?

Jecht, and I don't think it's particularly close, mainly because the casuals have a choice between a manly man with a sword* and a dorsal fin.

Of course, the match will never happen for obvious reasons.

Jecht versus Seymour is more interesting.

*Incidentally, I wouldn't be shocked if Jecht gets a pic boost against Zelda, as that picture is basically
Jecht: I am manly man with sword.
Zelda: Jecht, take me now!

Jecht losing to Seymour would be one of those results that would cause me to abandon GameFAQs forever.

Nevertheless, characters had to win two matches to get to this point. If you win two matches and then get less than 30%, there was some bad imbalance in your fourpack!

It could be worse. Look at the bottom halves of the Varia and Jenova divisions. In both cases, the 3-6-11-14 fourpack was somewhat debatable, and no matter who won, they were destined to get blown out in round 3 by a 10-seed. The Varia is, of course, infinitely worse, in that despite not standing a chance at the 10, the winner of the 3-14 was pretty much guaranteed to blow out the 6-seed.

Man, Eddie really could end up with one of the worst x-stat ratings ever--although, with the scarcity of true blowouts this year, it will be tough to challenge Tanner's record. Ratchet managing to hold up somewhat decently against Jecht probably helped for the time being, but if Zelda puts up a solid doubling on Jecht, it's back in question. Also, I'm thinking Eddie could end up being the ultimate loser--we know Jecht's going to lose to Zelda, and Zelda will lose to Samus next round, and Samus to Cloud the round after that. The only three things that can prevent Eddie from being the Ultimate Loser, in order of least likely to most likely:

1. Sephiroth manages to get past both Missingno. and Snake. We've seen plenty of strange things this contest, but Cloud losing to Sephiroth is still a bit implausible. This shifts the "Ultimate Loser" tag over to Marcus Fenix.

2. Sephiroth can't get by Snake, but one of them manages to stop Missingno., and then Cloud beats Snake anyway. My bracket, which didn't account for Missingno., has Snake > Cloud, but I know that that's an upset pick. This is actually fairly plausible, but not as much so as...

3. Link can't stop Missingno., either. And really, why should he? What many people failed to take into account when they were surprised by R/B/Y's performance in last year's Games Contest is the very real possibility that console Nintendo doesn't SFF Game Boy. Nintendo pretty much had a monopoly on the handheld market from the time the Game Gear flopped all the way until the debut of the PSP. Just look at Square's recent strategies with Final Fantasy--put all of the main series games on the PS2 (now PS3/360), then release the handheld side games as DS exclusives. So if Sephiroth's FF night vote and Snake's multi-platform appeal couldn't stop Missingno., there's no good reason to think that Link could.

Eddie Riggs has almost no chance of being the ultimate loser. The only way for that to happen is Missingo > Cloud and then Link > Missingno, which is virtually impossible.

Oh, right, I forgot to say who the new Ultimate Loser would be in scenarios 2 and 3. In Scenario 2 (Cloud > Snake semis), it becomes Geno; in scenario 3 (Missingno. > Link finals), it's...most likely Professor Layton, or possibly Neku Sakuraba or Arthas Menethil.

And I seriously think there might be some validity to that "Game Boy doesn't get SFFed by Nintendo consoles because there was no decent alternative for handhelds for about a decade or so" theory. I think that's why the Pokemon games held up so well last year.

And it would have to be a 24-hour match- it would be awful if Crono lost only because it was a day match, and Sonic supporters would probably have the same complaint about losing a night match.

Indeed, I think this format is a good idea, but once we're down to 32 characters, when there are few boring matches left, we should switch back to 24-hour matches.

Congrats to Krahenprophet for his well-deserved victory.

If I had to take a guess, sonic 51, crono 49. Problem with Crono is he just isn't as good in high vote total matches. He'd have the lead for a bit I'd imagine, then lose it again when EU rolled around.

Jecht's bound to be the weakest character reaching R3. He's the only FF-character who needed Dissidia to make it into a contest, we've seen Sin bomb before (I understand they're rather connected in FFX), and he let Ratchet do rather well on him last round. It wouldn't be surprising to see Phoenix not be strong one-on-one again anyway.

Let's be honest. Sonic would beat Crono in a 12 hour night match, or day match. Sonic is a tier above Crono at this point. Crono would have a better match with Squall or Vincent.
