will be solid, probably the strongest new character in a long time.

FFXIII
is the biggest Square game in 9 years. Although now that I think about
it, Lightning won't have an appearance in Kingdom Hearts yet, so I'll
probably not consider taking her over Squall, Auron, Tifa, Vincent,

I
think lightnings strength will depend heavily on how people(especially
NA) receive FF13. I've compared her power to pre halo 3 MC, and we know
what happened when halo 3 came out. MC went from N9 to mid mid carder.
FF > Halo on this site though, so she might not be affected as much
as him. --- hmmmmmmmm |

Yeah,
I hope we get a Favorite FF Game poll once we get done with this
contest to get a gauge on what the site thinks of the game. We saw that
FFXII couldn't even beat FFIX in the aftermath of its release, and
Balthier performed accordingly. FFX beat FFVI for 2nd place, and their
characters have been strong. --- "So cold. I am always by your side." "There ain't no gettin' off of this train we on!" |

You
act as if I'm ignoring MCs already established strength... MC was
bottom lvl N9 with hype.. Lightning is no where near it, but it's
pretty obvious her strength is from the insane hype FF13 has. --- hmmmmmmmm |
creativename | Posted 3/5/2010 10:57:49 PM | message detail |
Comparing Lightning hype to MC hype is incredibly dumb. Lightning has no game yet. She should certainly boost close to around 30% x-stat level at least. Possibly higher. Considering she's a main character, I don't think people should be shocked if she does end up at say Squall/Vincent/Auron/Tifa level. Squall's the only main character in the bunch there. I don't think she will but it's not impossible. Auron was always at 30+% level and he's not even the main character, and XIII should be almost as big as X. If X's main character had actually been beloved instead of...Tidus, he'd probably be stronger than Vincent/Squall/Tifa even without Kingdom Hearts. X was bigger than XIII will probably be but not by overly much I think. Also XIII is multi-platform. Her day vote will easily surpass the other FF character day votes, most likely. --- gamefaqscontests.com gamefaqscontests.com/gallery |

Bowser will lose because I picked him and I never get close to the final top 50. In all seriousness though, I've always said Bowser is the favourite here. Sora was only really good in 2006 and I'm convinced that was an overperformance. I'm sure some of you will argue "pic factor" in 2005 against Snake.. but a great pic does not just give a character a 10+% boost. Even then Snake was weaker that year than 2006. ZFS | Posted 3/5/2010 11:05:27 PM | message detail |
I'd
be pretty hesitant to say where FFXIII will end up. It's such a
divisive game in such a different time that I wouldn't necessarily even
be sure that it's a whole lot better than FFXII. It's got a major range
depending on how people take to it. It could down there with FFXII or
up with FFX, it's tough to say until people get their hands on it. Lightning will be good, though. Either way, she should still be strong. --- study the past if you would define the future |

Zelda Wii is actually revealed and released this year, FFXIII might get

He definitely hasn't looked as strong as he did in 2005 this year, unless we're arguing Kefka would give Ryu a good fight. The tournament's rematch between Canada and the U.S. (the U.S. won the first game earlier in the week with a score of 5-3) drew 27.6 million viewers on this side of the border. This made it the most watched hockey game here since the "Miracle on Ice" in 1980, in which the U.S. beat the USSR. Keep
in mind that Bowser's 55% on Leon Kennedy was against a potentially
weaker Leon than the one we got in more recent years. 2006 was before
Leon got RE4 on the Wii (it's sold just as much as RE4 on the
GameCube). Bowser definitely hell off significantly between 05 and 06. I still say Sora has a very good chance because of this, but Bowser is still the favorite because of the time frame and because his fat ass kinda dominates the pic. --- Yoblazer: http://i29.tinypic.com/dqhyf5.jpg Watch and you'll see... someday I'll be... part of your world! |

How
much stronger do you think a third port to a similar fanbase made Leon,
though? RE4 Wii sold well, but after being on both the GCN and PS2, I
don't know that you're reaching a much different audience with that.
You've got the Nintendo fans, the Sony fans, and the more casual fans
covered with those two systems. Not saying it did nothing for Leon, but

Well,
if we assume 2006 Leon is approximately equal to the one Dante beat
last year (Dante got 52.40% in round 2. Leon did noticeably worse in
round 3, where Dante got 56.96% on him), you end up with either Bowser
beating Dante with 53.20% or Dante beating Bowser with 51.70%. In round 2 of 2007, Ryu beat Bowser with 52.08%. I
think there was. Just the fact that it nearly matched Gamecube sales
despite being released 2.5 years later means it was reaching >some
new players. Remember that it was released as a budget title for $30. I
can easily see curious fans who've heard good things about this game
try it out for the hot new console. Either way, I don't think the Leon
who put up 60% on Gordon (PRE-Orange Box Gordon) is as strong as the
one who got nearly 57% on Vivi. Heck, Bowser took a big 1v1 drop even
if you think 2006 Leon was at his prime, but Bowser looks even worse if
you think that Leon may have been weaker then than he is now. --- Yoblazer: http://i33.tinypic.com/ml36gl_th.gif Watch and you'll see... someday I'll be... part of your world! |

Well,
a cheap price and new controls also tend to encourage people to rebuy
the game, especially if they only bought the GCN one the first time
around and missed out on the PS2 extras. It came out during a time when
the Wii was kinda hurting for games, too, which couldn't hurt. I just
don't know how many people new people you're netting with the game. I
could see it being enough to give him a boost that year, maybe, because
it makes RE4 a little more relevant and new again, but other than that,
I don't think Leon's had much difference in popularity since RE4 PS2
hit. Maybe there's some stats to back it up or something, but if there
isn't, I wouldn't count on it. --- study the past if you would define the future |

We
should not be holding Bowser's 4-way performances against him. He was
being leeched by somebody in all four 4-way matches he's been in
(Mewtwo/Toad in R1 of '07, Shadow in R2 of '07, Geno in R1 of '08 and
Luigi/Phoenix in R2 of '08). This simply tells us that Bowser is a big leech and possibly that Mario characters benefit from 1vs1. Of course the only year when Mario characters really looked good in a 1vs1 setting was '05, but whatever. |
