Oh god. With that pick Sora's chances against Bowser just went from below average to outright poor.

Dude has a night match where there isn't one single time period in his favor - from the Power Hour(s) to the Mario morning vote - and now he has to deal with an even worse pic disadvantage than I would've expected. Wow. Poor Sora is just getting setup to be a jobber in a match that he probably takes in a 24 hour match.

California is the sole reason that Ryu beat Dante. Look at my data

The US makes up 59% of the voting population
There are 308,805,000 people in the USA

California makes up 12% of the USA
CA has a population of 36,961,664.

Ryu/Dante had 74,809 votes
That means 44,137 came from the US
And 5,296 came from California

Ryu got a whopping 59% in California
That means Ryu got 3,177 votes
While Dante got 2,119

That is a difference of 1,058 votes that California gave to Ryu

Ryu won by 531 votes

Without California, Dante would have won by 500 votes

I thought Sora's match was about as good as he could have expected, but yeah... Bowser looks to have as big of a pic advantage as he's garnered since, yes, 2005.

Almost doubling someone who beat Magus would be a good thing, actually, yeah. You can be silly about that if you want to by making a joke out of Sandbag, but I think people consider Luigi's performance here doubling a CUBE to be impressive.

Far be it from me to pass up a chance to mock Sonic!

As for Cube, I think it's good by Luigi, but I take it as more a read on Cube. Cube ends up pretty much where he should be based on past The Boss stats, and also considering this is a day match. I like most thought maybe Cube was stronger than that because of how he performed last year. Don't really think this changes my perception of Luigi much. Though I'm certainly glad to see my boy Luigi with the old-school whupping :)

I'd estimate Luigi as around ~30% on (old) Link. (doesn't apply to the newer, defective 2010 model. Toyota recall of Link '10 imminent)

The Cube has taken a big drop in strength this year. The Cube got almost 40% on Snake in round 4 last year and was doubled by Cloud, and now he's being almost doubled by Luigi.

This performance sets the Cube at a low midcarder.

I'm starting to think Ganondorf has a better than 50% chance of winning this. Kirby's whole division from last year did badly this year (that's Kirby, Master Chief, Dante, and Big Boss), which makes Sonic's loss to Kirby all the more embarassing. Auron and Sephiroth have looked decent but on the low side of where he could have been. Magus looked bad.

64% on Frog vs. 60% on Magus- now you can say Sonic underperformed in that match, and looking at Magus/Mario 2007 and Magus/Alucard 2008, you'd be right, but Ganondorf was the obvious favorite in his first round match too, so he had the same reason to underperform.

The new picture is way better in my opinion, and I like Ike as much as you do <_< He's always had my vote on Mario.

But yeah, I'm a fan of sticking to the "only official work" rule. Allowing wanton fan art is a bad precedent to get going.

Also, even the old background was wrong. That was FE7 or 11 (can't tell which), Ike wasn't in those.

No, it had to do with Nintendo characters being higher than Sega characters on the Nintendo hierarchy!

........This actually kind of makes sense to me. I know rSFF is ultra rare and is a once in years kind of thing, but I could actually see the N64 and later Nintendo fanbase vote pretty much any decently popular Nintendo character in droves over Sonic.

Anytime your argument relies on hierarchies, you're already in trouble! Bad sign for Ganon :)

Actually I think Ganon certainly has a shot, because Sonic has looked like crap too many times to discount. But that would be because Ganon was stronger, not 'hierarchies'.

It's the original Mario/Ike, before I got Bacon to change it.

Put it up. And wow, Ike does look super-badass in that one! Flame sword is great. Ike probably does do a bit better with that.

Meh. The hardest part about this match back then was deciding if Bacondorf would allow Sonic to win this match, which is what I'm hoping for. Outright, I don't think there's any problems here for Ganondorf.

Surprisingly the upset hype train for Ganon seems to have left the building. Most people expect Sonic to win easily. I guess Tails/Terra really changed people's minds.

And this is really the best bacon pic Ganon could've hoped for. At least it's not the NES sprite. (man, every time I think of the NES game though I think of the opening music...the title screen for that game is truly one of the best video game moments ever)
