That Sonic/Ganondorf is the very best Ganondorf could have hoped for. He's got some crazy HD LTTP sprite, while Sonic's stuck with his Sonic Advance sprite. Of Sonic doesn't look terrible by any means, but if I was backing Ganondorf I'd be very satisfied.

Sonic/Ganon got as "even" of a picture as possible for the sprite-round. My favorite picture of the round aside from today.
Kirby's sprite >> Vivi's art/model, whichever it is.
Is that artwork for Ike? Either way, Mario's slaying him.
Mega Man's sprite just dominates most characters. Hayabusa is no exception.
Bowser's sprite beasts over Sora's, but Sora's background with his 3D-face helps a lot.
L/Charizard both look good. I I'm pissed none of Gooper's pics were used for the Pokemon though!
Samus/Sub-Zero look good.
Zelda looks blurry-crappy.
Damn, CF needed the Blue Falcon!!!
Leon...wow. If he advances, that'll be the upset of the round.
Pikachu looks pretty gosh-darn good against Solid ****. No surprises over this picture advantage though.
I think that's a good pic for Auron. I think Squall looks better, but you FF8-fans are going nuts over Smiling Squall, so.....
I miss that look for Sephiroth. FF7 had super-blocky graphics, but the nostalgia's nice.
Big Daddy looks a lot better than Tifa.

I can agree with this, even worse than Solid **** and Elevator Ganon. Couple that with maybe the coolest sprite pic for Ryu, charging up that Hadouken in the background...damn.

I like some of the free from pics too, but for a 128 character contest, I think the themes should be:

1st Round: Full Body
2nd Round: Close Up
3rd Round: Super Close Up (Like 2005's Second Round)
4th Round: First Appearance
5th Round: Most Recent Appearance
6th Round: Posed as if they're fighting each other
7th Round: Freeform

Yeah, I wasn't thinking (or was overthinking rather) earlier when I said I didn't like Seph's pic. The FFVII art for those characters is way better than the more recent stuff, that is my opinion, and I think it likely that that's the opinion of the majority on Gamefaqs.

One thing I don't like about the sprite round is that some entrants just end up looking so much bigger, which probably does give them an advantage. Bowser, Pikachu, and Auron take up like double the picture space of their opponents, although in Snake's case, I dunno if taking a bigger **** would help him at all.

Still, I'm relieved that Sora isn't terribly disadvantaged. I would have liked his KHII portrait in the back, but eh, that's no big deal.

I think I've decided to vote for Ganondorf tonight. Zelda fanboyism triumphs within me. As for odds, I'd put it at 60-40 for Sonic with the picture as it is. With normal pictures, I'd consider Ganondorf the favorite.

I have a really hard time picturing Ansem beating Robotnik like those stats indicate. Either Ganon underperformed with the oinker or he SFF'd Robotnik pretty good. Hell, I'm not even sure Ansem beats Master Hand, a villain Robotnik easily defeated.

You're being way too pessimistic. Seph's pic may indeed be some kinda sabotage attempt (the idea of pic sabotage strikes me as hilarious, but I wouldn't deny it, not with how smart people have gotten about these contests), but I think it'll backfire. I bet that Seph pic is really nostalgic for any old-time FFVII fans. Heck, I'm really excited to vote for him now, and I only played the game in 2008.

oh charon don't be so pessimistic. Seph has a chance now. The original FF7 field models are like the anti-Compilation, I think 'block-Seph' would beat Advent Children Seph any day. That pic is just drenched in nostalgia.

Nothing wrong with KH Leon, since thats pretty much the only form of Squall that isnt fail.

I cant really tell about smiling squall that much tbh.

I prefer FFVIII Squall as far as appearances go, but nothing wrong with the KH sprite.

Nothing wrong with Lego FFVII models. They're instantly recognizable.

I think that's a great picture for Vivi. From what we've seen out of Kirby's games, it's clear Kirby is almost entirely Smash+Cute Design. A side picture that doesn't show off his usual cuteness at all seems pretty dangerous.
