Keep in mind, FFXIII is coming out Tuesday, so we should get a New Square voter base influx!

...Because that really helped Aerith beat Zelda!

So like two days late. Man, Sora is so doomed.

More like one day late. Sora/Bowser is Monday.

We need SOMETHING to postpone the contest for just one day!

Or even just 12 hours!

We may not see as much motion among the high elites as with others. New Square could collapse left and right around Cloud, and at the end of the day, he'll still only drop like 2% on Link.

Also, I increasingly think 2006 was a banner year for the Square characters that appeared in KH, not just the KH-exclusive ones, though to a lesser extent for the originally Final Fantasy characters of course.

For Sora, this could not be further from the truth.

I think that Zelda 3 Ganon would be stronger since it has a greater resemblance to Ganon's appearance in the 3D Zelda games. 3D Zelda is stronger than 2D Zelda, which is why Ganondorf would be the most recognizable form, but a good majority those who played OoT or TP reached the final battle in these games. And Zelda 1 sprite of some pig/bull hybrid does not resemble the 3D Ganon forms in the slightest

More than anything, though, I'm wondering why I went with Kratos > Charizard... especially since I had Charizard to the division finals for quite a while. ARGH.

Someone told me that daylight savings time ends next week. Is this true? Are we gonna get one match cut down to 11 hours?

Correct, but DST actually starts up again. We are not currently under DST right now.

A match will be cut down to 11 hours. That will be the Mario/Mega Man match, which is a night match. The day match running on the same day as that one will run for the normal 12 hours.

Keep in mind, FFXIII is coming out Tuesday, so we should get a New Square voter base influx!

That's going to happen on the day of Samus/Sub-Zero and Jecht/Zelda. Cloud gets his match the day after FFXIII is released as a result of the contest being delayed one day.

Fact/Fiction: Mega Man X outdoes Alucard's percentage against Link (28.21%)

I'll call Fiction for now. MMX is stronger than Alucard, but probably not by much. I'd would probably take MMX to get around 55% on Alucard. Factoring in the SFF (which seems likely), and MMX will get pushed below Alucard in the final x-stats.

Fact/Fiction: Weighted Companion Cube outdoes Amaterasu's percentage against Luigi (40.41%)

Fact. I think joke characters are pretty good at resisting a blowout when they are in a position to finally lose.

Fact or Fiction: Sonic does better on Kirby than Ganondorf

Fiction. Bacondorf most likely stops Ganondorf from doing better on Sonic than Kirby would.

So basically Luster, Mario is going to have one less hour to catch up to Mega Man and all the kiddies will be tired in the mornings and older people will oversleep, leading to a much weaker morning vote.
Mega Man over Mario confirmed .
But then Bacon says it was unfair and leaves the poll open an extra hour... you all know the drill.

Brawl Deboost Part 2 is also acceptable, better than merely acceptable even.

Brawl is like a cancer that infects everything it touches and makes them weaker. It's so bad that it even infected Melee, causing Nintendo fans to no longer be so disappointed in Brawl since they forgot they ever had a superior game in the first place. That's why Melee did poorly in the Games Contest but the older Nintendo games did very well (the newer Nintendo games were knocked out completely by Brawl Deboost Part 1 and couldn't recover). Melee is made of stronger stuff, however, and the voters have remembered how great a game it was- unleashing Brawl Deboost Part 2.

Oh - yet another match that the format could change is Squall/Auron.

Auron is not nearly as good at night as the other Final Fantasy characters. That being a day match definitely hurts Squall.

Considering how razor-thin close those two characters probably already are, that could be enough to swing it for Auron.

Out of all the matches this round, that's the one most likely to have multiple trend swings. Squall might have to make an SNV comeback there.

I'm going to take Squall there, but...I don't know. I'm not very comfortable with it.

Squall and Auron's trends aren't different enough that the fact that it's day or night should affect TOO much. Squall's not awful with the day vote (It's hard to forget this considering he's had four matches with Sora in the last two contests), nor is Auron awful with the night vote. FFX's night vote isn't as good as FFVII's, which is why Aerith did so well with the night vote last time.

If this match ends up within 50/50, then I think you can probably just chalk it up to random variation.

That wouldn't be a deboost, just a decline. A deboost would imply some release or event caused it, rather than just aging.

Also the Crono decline is being HIGHLY overrated IMO. Stats may imply Crono only gets like 51% on Yoshi or something but come on, we all know that's not legit.

Semi-seriously, "Deboost" only refers to one very specific thing in 2008. I use "fall" or "drop" or "decline" or other similar words for all other cases of a decrease in strength.

Less seriously, CT was undoutedly infected by Brawl through some sort of contact. My guess is that it was because CTDS came out in the same year as Brawl.

Now, I finally understand why Link was so bad in Twilight Princess. Link had to keep himself away from Brawl, so he created a new, different, Link to take the damage for him. Smart move, Link.

FFX's night vote isn't as good as FFVII's

How does the FFVIII night vote compare to FFX's night vote? I would expect that whoever wins the night vote probably loses the day vote. So if Squall loses the day vote to Auron, then Squall's night vote is probably better than Auron's.

I'd be a lot more confident in Squall winning the dead zone vote though than Auron.

The trend difference shouldn't be big, but this match could be real close.

The trends over the course of that match should give us insight into how a 24-hour match would've gone - one of them probably wins the DSV and SNV, and not that I'm certain of it, but I'm guessing that's more likely to be Squall.

FFVIII and FFX have more extreme trends than their characters do. FFX has a fantastic night vote and a poor day vote (but then again, it faced Melee, RBY, KH, and OoT, and FFVIII had to face OoT and RBY itself, so go figure). FFVIII and FFX actually had better morning votes than night votes.

For the record, Auron got 60% on Aerith in the U.S. and 55% in Europe, but the FF girls aren't as popular in North America, for whatever the reason (Cid beat Aerith in the vote-in poll in the U.S.). He got 55.38% against Zero in the U.S. (about 1.3% lower than his actual percentage) and 68.25% in Europe (LOL Mega Man).

Squall got 64.31% against Terra in the U.S. (slightly lower than his actual percentage) and 68.36% in Europe, but FFVI obviously has different trends than FFVIII or FFX. He got 67.13% against Akuma in the U.S. (1-2% lower than his actual percentage) and 72.52% in Europe.

I'm not seeing a big world of difference there.

Here's a factoid I got while looking up Sora's recent matches in a sea of tears: Fox McCloud is actually stronger in the US and North America than Sora is. In fact, Fox was only 1.75% away from Yoshi in the US. These "Smash first" guys might be the ultimate North American force, as Captain Falcon beat Riku in NA as well.

Mega Man X should do have a bit better (less embarassing?) with this night match against Link. They might suck in Europe, but Mega Man characters still tend to do better in the first 12 hours. And Link tends to shoot up big in the second 12 hours. Also Mega Man X will actually get the Power Hour edge I think.
