Hoping Gordon pushes to 40% for my Oracle, which still won't make me worry about New Square. I still think Peach overperformed on Gordy with that picture and that whatever Tifa ends up with here (especially in the daytime) is fine.

The Old Square Dissidia guys become more of a question mark with every match. Terra > Gordon? Are you flippin' kidding me?

Holy crap, Tifa might beat Gordon worse than she beat Peach!

And Tifa started dropping a bit near the end, so it looks like Gordon will do better against Tifa than Peach did. The ASV won't be good for Tifa. Last round, Gordon went up a tiny bit with the early part of the ASV and then it was mostly even for the rest of the match. I'll take a Peach-level ASV over Tifa's bad ASV.

I'll take a Peach-level ASV over Tifa's bad ASV.

Looking back at their 2006 match, Peach did about 1% better with the ASV on average, so that's not going to wind up being too much.

Yes, it's Tina in Japanese, but was changed to Terra to sound "different".
Plus it makes Tifa sound more original, rather than a lazy 1-letter change.

Man, my only back-to-back loss in Round 1 was because of Missingno and Big Daddy, now my other back-to-back loss in Round 2 was because of Missingno and Big Daddy again, augh!

The top tiers actually don't do too badly. We still lose one of the two remaining -10 brackets and the last -11 bracket. Other than that, the prediction percentage manages to stay above 30 until you go down to the -17s. The prediction percentage then decreases until you reach the single digit range at -26. After this it actually starts going up to around 40 before fading away again.

Despite the big bracket advantage, Squall/Auron was never a sure thing, and there's still a glaring question mark with Missingno. Lemme rank these bad boys in terms of uncertainty:

Sora/Bowser
Sonic/Ganon
Auron/Squall
Sephiroth/Missingno
L-Block/Charizard
Luigi/WCC
Leon/Ryu
Kirby/Vivi
Solid Snake/Pikachu
Jecht/Zelda
Tifa/Big Daddy
Samus/Sub-Zero
Cloud Strife/Captain Falcon
Mega Man/Ryu Hayabusa
Link/Mega Man X
Mario/Ike

Uh...because he's a 14-seed? Also...only 51.25% correctly picked Big Daddy to beat Soap MacTavish. That 27.52% that Big Daddy got here means that 53.70% of all brackets that had Big Daddy making it to round 2 had him winning it.

Seriously, this is a great performance from Tifa. Gordon went pretty even with Peach throughout the day, so you know Tifa would be obliterating him in her best timeframe. Europe, Asia, and Oceania are all reflecting that.

So, how long until Missingno. breaks the record for lowest prediction percentage ever?

Where the first two ranked:

Round 1: #4 Most Surprising Result of Round 1 (#2 among 1v1s); #21 Most Surprising 1v1 Result
Round 2: #9 Most Surprising 1v1 Result (highest of any result from the first two rounds); #24 Most Surprising Result of All-Time (third-highest among results from the first two rounds)

Is Missingno.'s percentage going to make another rapid cut, or are we already getting to the point that it's mostly joke entries that got it right in the first place?

...If Missingno.'s prediction percentage were to be cut in half each round, it would have to beat Cloud in order to break L-Block's record. It would, however, beat out every non-L-Block result by the end of round 4.

I think...Missingno. will get a big cut after this round, then barely any fall-off for Round 4, and then the trends will be similar to L-Block's in the last three rounds.

Yeah, no way I see Missingno breaking L-Block's Final %.

In fact, I'm not sure Missingo's prediction % will drop off that much more from whatever it would have after beating Sephiroth.

I mean, beating Crono [and Yoshi] is one thing, but once someone has it beating Sephiroth, it's hard to see it being given a loss anywhere else. Maybe Link could put a dent in the % in the Finals, but even then...

This was what L-Block got in the final round for prediction percentage

L-Block first place - 0.27%
L-Block second place - 0.72%

Only 0.27% had it winning the contest, with another 0.72% picking it to finish in the top 2.

Yeah, I tabulated the records of each seed over the first two rounds.

1-seeds: 16-0
2-seeds: 8-7
3-seeds: 12-2
4-seeds: 7-5
5-seeds:10-6
6-seeds: 8-8
7-seeds: 10-3
8-seeds: 5-8
9-seeds: 3-8
10-seeds: 5-6
11-seeds: 0-8
12-seeds: 0-8
13-seeds: 7-5
14-seeds: 4-6
15-seeds: 1-8
16-seeds: 0-8

4-seeds were definitely the turds of the first round (4-4 vs. 13-seeds), but 2-seeds were the turds of the second (1-6, with one having already been eliminated.) 5- and 6-seeds weren't exactly impressive, either; despite half of them facing 13-seeds rather than 4-seeds, the 5s were 2-6--and one of those wins actually was against a 4. Like the 5s, the 6-seeds all advanced to round 2...and went 0-8.

I've always thought Tifa's strength has been heavily underrated. She could just beat Vince, who has a good claim to 8th/9th strongest on the site. That puts Tifa in the top 10... she's easily top 12 I think. It might have been a fluke, but you don't come THAT close to Samus without having some pretty hefty base strength.

Link/Mega Man X - Obvious Link win, nothing will give him any sort of trouble except Cloud getting sort of close or MissingNo getting a bandwagon rally.

Luigi/Cube - I'd say Luigi is pretty much a lock here after Cube struggled with The Boss. And then the poor guy will get stuck with Link in Round 4 and get SFF'd. WHY DOES NOBODY PAY ATTENTION TO WEEGEE?!

Sonic/Ganondorf - More like Sonic/Ganon since he always gets stuck with a pig sprite in Round 3. Poor sap. Sonic's path is very strange - you can't draw much from a newcomer and an SFF blowout.

Kirby/Vivi - Some talk of an upset here - it could happen. I'm fine with either one winning, especially if the winner also defeats the winner of Sonic/Ganon.

Mario/Ike - Boring SFF crap, waste of twelve hours.

Mega Man/Ryu Hayabusa - Nice run, ninja boy, but you've hit a brick wall.

Sora/Bowser - This one was a very likely Sora win at the beginning of the contest. Since then, we've seen Kingdom Hearts suck it up while Mario and friends have performed admirably on the whole. Bowser has a really good chance to win here and reclaim his near-elite status.

L-Block/Charizard - Charizard has proven himself to be a very worthy battler in these contests. L-Block, meanwhile, has yet to impress since being humiliated by Pikachu in 2008. Talk about a fall from grace. Charizard takes it.

Samus/Sub-Zero - So is Sub-Zero really our most powerful western character? That's awesome! I wonder how well he'll do against Samus... if he breaks 40%, I'd say he deserves the title.

Jecht/Zelda - Hah, Ject advanced twice while Tee-dus lost first round. Unfortunately for him, no amount of JECHT SHOTS will keep him from losing to a princess who stands there and does nothing. Oh wait, except in Smash and Spirit Tracks.

Cloud/Falcon - Captain Falcon must win the first five minutes.

Leon/Ryu - If Ryu can beat Dante, he should beat Leon. And with no hockey matches that day he should have little trouble.

Snake/Pikachu - Snake should win. He really should. But it IS the sprite round... In this contest, Pokemon's looked great and Metal Gear's been all over the place. Add in Snake trading his Smash support for an NES sprite and you could have a recipe for disaster.

Auron/Squall - Bah, I don't know. I guess Squall wins, but who the heck knows what could happen here.

Sephiroth/Missingno - I'm thinking Missingno could continue to defy all logic and somehow have three close matches with three characters that are all on totally different levels of strength. Sephiroth is an antivote generator, and as we've learned Missingno draws a great deal of power from rallies. This is one to keep an eye on.

Big Daddy/Tifa - A boring win for Tifa is quite certain. If MissingNo beats Sephiroth, his match with Tifa could serve as an indicator of whether or not he's building a bandwagon. I have this idea that it'll be really close, continuing Missy's tradition of awesome close matches.

Amen. I think what everyone forgets is that when Tifa came that close to Samus, Samus had a Zero Suit pic and Tifa had a KH2 pic--which meant that Tifa was on the weaker end of TJF. If TJF really does exist, it could probably be argued that Tifa might've won with an FF7 pic (not sure how giving Samus her power suit would affect it, because while it does detract from TJF, it improves recognizability).

Hmm, you're right, Tifa is doing a little better than Vincent did last year. But we've had so few good reads on Tifa since KH2 that it could just mean Tifa's been stronger than Vincent since 2006 and we just didn't know it!

I'd take that upset.

More and more, it looks like we're getting an Episode 3/Portal 2 box set.

...! Explain, please. I've heard nothing of this idea, or really even a Portal-sequel.
