Big Daddy's numbers from the Eastern Hemisphere have gone back up. I wonder how Ness brought them all down so low for a while.

Gotta hand it to Ness for keeping it interesting when normally he gets killed here. If he keeps the lead down to a reasonable level he has a chance in the morning.. very slim though.

Big Daddy was very evenly trended throughout his match last round and last year, so Ness is going to have to be the one to make a big move. Big Daddy doesn't have a bad match frame.

He should. He's got at least three more hours of dead zone Euro voting. Heck, I wouldn't be at all surprised if he goes even with Ness in the morning or even extends his lead. Daddy is a Western character, after all.

If he keeps this pace up for another two hours, he'll have it locked. I really don't expect Ness to come back much with the morning vote.

Fun stuff. It's funny how, at this point, I feel way more worried about Sora than Snake. Maybe because Snake's match seems so far away, or maybe because Kingdom Hearts has looked bad with the exception of Roxas. I just want to get Sora/Bowser over with.

Although to be fair, Sora has never had a huge 1v1 win. He's not nearly as bad as Dante is in that category, but I think the strongest 1v1 opponent he's ever defeated is Alucard. Not bad, but compare that to Bowser, who sports 1v1 wins over Yoshi, Leon Kennedy, and a crushing victory against Ryu. Dante seemed a step above Ryu in 4ways but couldn't get the job done in this format, so the same could hold true for Sora.

When is that match, anyway... Sunday night? It can't come soon enough.

If Big Daddy holds on to win and Tifa wins tomorrow, that gives us 7 double digit seeds making the third round, all of them except Tifa and Zelda vote-in guys. Looks like we did a good job with the vote-ins. In fact, two divisions have three double digit seeds in the third round (This one and Samus's). We don't have a single division where the chalk has prevailed (the top 4 seeds all advancing), thanks to the curse of the 2 seed, mostly. The closest we got was Snake's division, where the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th seeds all advanced. In fact, here's a breakdown of all we have left:

Bold indicates the character has been eliminated

1 Seeds: Link, Sonic the Hedgehog, Mario, Sora, Samus Aran, Cloud Strife, Solid Snake, Sephiroth (8/8)

2 Seeds: Nathan Drake, Altair, Master Chief, Kratos, Ezio, Dante,, Squall Leonhart, Gordon Freeman (1/8, maybe 2/8 if Gordon pulls an upset)

3 Seeds: Luigi, Kirby, Mega Man, L-Block, Phoenix Wright, Leon Kennedy, Auron, Soap MacTavish (6/8)

4 Seeds: Captain John Price, Albert Wesker, Ike, Bowser, Tidus, Captain Falcon, Commander Shepard, Crono (3/8)

5 Seeds: Pokemon Trainer Red, Ganondorf, Zidane Tribal, Kefka, Roxas, Riku, Pikachu, Yoshi (2/8)

6 Seeds: Amaterasu, GlaDOS, Zack Fair, Isaac, Ratchet, Sackboy, Zero, Ness (0/8)

7 Seeds: Weighted Companion Cube, Vivi Orunitia, Ryu Hayabusa, Charizard, Travis Touchdown, Ryu, Darth Revan, Yuri Lowell (5/8)

8 Seeds: Alucard, Cecil Harvey, Big Boss, Laharl, Niko Bellic, Chris Redfield, Lloyd Irving, Vincent Valentine (0/8)

9 Seeds: Magus, Knuckles the Echidna, Miles Edgeworth, Neku Sakuraba, Jill Valentine, Captain MacMillan, Fox McCloud, Guybrush Threepwood (0/8)

10 Seeds: Sandal, Donkey Kong, Crash Bandicoot, Duke Nukem, Zelda, Balthier Bunansa, Terra Branford, Tifa Lockhart (2/8)

11 Seeds: Shadow the Hedgehog, Fawful, Yuna, Professor Layton, Eddie Riggs, Kratos Aurion, Marcus Fenix, Geno (0/8)

12 Seeds: Revolver Ocelot, Mewtwo, Claptrap, Arthas Menethil, Heavy, Ramza Beoulve, Banjo, Jak (0/8)

13 Seeds: Mega Man X, Ken Masters, Prinny, Frog, Sub-Zero, Wander, Ellis, Missingno (3/8)

14 Seeds: Meta Knight, Rikku, Cid Highwind, HK-47, Jecht, Vault Boy, Aerith Gainsborough, Big Daddy (2/8)

15 Seeds: The Boss, Liquid Snake, Spy, Miles "Tails" Prower, Simon Belmont, Axel, Akuma, Princess Peach (0/8)

16 Seeds: Thrall, Lightning, Falco Lombardi, Midna, Prince of Persia, Ridley, Protoman, Marth (0/8)

Fun Facts: Despite 5/12 upsets being popular in March Madness, not a single 12 seed won a first round match. Same goes for the 11 seeds.

6 seeds are the highest seeds to have no representative in round three.

Apparently, it's a good year to be a 7 seed! All the 7 seeds who failed to make round 3 all lost in round 1.

A good year to be a 3 seed for once, too! The only two 3 seeds not to get to the third round lost in round 1, and both 14 seeds made round 3.

We have more 13 seeds in the third round than we have 2 seeds or 5 seeds.

Sora has one thing Dante doesn't though...impressive losses against big opponents. I know I'm still shocked every time I look at Sora's 46% on Mega Man (if you wanna go the 4-way route, Sora got 48% on Squall...way better than losses to Kirby and needing LFF to survive Luigi).

It was a fine win, but it really doesn't have anything on Bowser's biggest. Of course, this really doesn't mean a thing for the match at hand, but it's fun to talk about. Wins over Bowser and Charizard (on Pokemon launch day) would really cement his legacy. I know his bracket support was extremely impressive this year, but if KHIII is announced before the next contest, NO ONE would pick against the guy.

Well, to be fair, Sora hasn't really had a chance to get a big 1-on-1 win since KHII since this is only the 2nd 1-on-1 contest we've had since then, and he had an easy path to Mega Man in 2006.

Even with the fact that i never really liked Sephiroth, i was kinda hoping that he will win(which he most probably will) against Missingno.

Forget about Link/Cloud in the finals, Snake vs Sephiroth is the true main event of this contest and Missingno better don't find a way to ruin it. I am afraid that Sephiroth might just blow away Snake and make the match anticlimatic, but who knows at this moment, Snake always impresses when he is underestimated.

I took Big Daddy because Ness always does bad and is one of the weakest Nintendo characters. Looks like it paid off.

I should be in the top 10 after today. Too bad I didn't enter Guru. I have yoblazer's bracket the rest of the way but with Sephiroth over Snake so I'm guessing I win the contest in that scenario.

I actually made identical picks to yoblazer in 124 of 127 matches which is pretty crazy. Had Master Chief and I took Neku for some reason.

On another random note, yoblazer, RPGuy and myself are top 15 in the contest and in Oracle. Though I guess that makes sense do to the penalty for picking the loser in oracle.

So here are the number of characters by seeding that get to round 3 (assuming Mr. Freeman doesn't pull off some silly upset out of nowhere, and I'm not even helping him this time; I'd vote for Freeman over lots of characters he likely loses to but, uh, Tifa isn't one of them):

1 seeds - 8
2 seeds - 1
3 seeds - 6
4 seeds - 3
5 seeds - 3
6 seeds - 0
7 seeds - 5
8 seeds - 0
9 seeds - 0
10 seeds - 2
11 seeds - 0
12 seeds - 0
13 seeds - 3
14 seeds - 2
15 seeds - 0
16 seeds - 0

And the 3/7 seeds that didn't make it to round 3 were eliminated in round 1.

Also I think Tifa > Zelda is the consensus now, no? So 38% is the mark for Freeman to get past if he wants to get a moral victory, though I think he gets pushed down to 32% at lowest.

According to the '05 x-stats Freeman barely escapes being doubled by Tifa, and according to the 06 x-stats Freeman only gets 31% on her...but then again that's 31% on the Tifa who went 50-50 with Samus. Tifa has reason to be weaker now, both Peach and Freeman have reason to be stronger than in '06, so I have to think that Freeman's lower bound is actually 35% (if he goes under then...yeah), and he could possibly break 40% and still look like a decent midcarder. With the way a lot of "nobody" Nintendo characters have looked surprisingly good this contest (Ridley, DK, Peach) thanks simply to Brawl exposure, I'd say that anywhere from 35%-42% would be Freeman's bound. And if there is rallying for him it should be minimal, though Freeman may throw back is Gamespot shenanigans at us for dealing with a strong opponent...then again, maybe not. We have to tell them that Freeman's opponent has almost beaten Samus before (with the same match pic no less!), then they will understand how essential rallying is.
