~*Simple Explanation of Extrapolated Standings*~
A = Strongest Character
B = Character Weaker than A
C = Character Weaker than B
To figure out a character's Xsts Percentage ---> [(CvB)(BvA)]/50 = CvA
To compare how C would do against B ---> [(CvA)/(BvA)]*50 = CvB
To figure out how B would do against A ---> [(CvA)/(CvB)]*50 = BvA

~*Say What? Some Common Stat Topic Lingo Defined*~

SFF (Same Fanbase Factor) - Same Fanbase Factor is the theory that, if two contestants share a common fanbase, the weaker of the two options will underperform in a direct matchup. For instance, Link was expected to defeat Ganon with 65% of the vote in 2004, based on their 2003 values. Instead, Link collected near 88% of the vote, because the Zelda fanbase so clearly sided with him. However, take some SFF labels with a grain of salt, as many people will slap it onto any match that doesn't make total sense. This has caused a few SFF jokes, with LordOfDabu's "Some Frivolous Factor" being the funniest of them.

X-Stats - Short form of Extrapolated Statistics, aka the mathematical "strength" of a contestant that can be determined based on their performance in any given matchup. See above for a detailed explanation of the x-stat process.

Noble Nine - Link, Cloud, Sephiroth, Mario, Crono, Solid Snake, Sonic, Samus and Mega Man.

Near-Elite - The Squall, Auron, Tifa, Vincent, Zelda, Kirby, Missingno etc group that has come at, near or even ahead of Noble Nine characters in the past.

The Fodder Line - A final X-Stat value of 15% or below.

For other information, surf the contest sites a bit. They have everything.

If for some reason there's character battle where you simply have to have appeared in a video game to be eligible, each and every one of you is nominating Tiger Woods.

Lieutenant Kettch | Posted 3/3/2010 1:39:12 PM | message detail
So can we agree that IF MissingNo beats Seph, he wins the contest?

Still depends on his pictures. If it gets that fossil one and nobody recognizes it, it could lose to anyone. Probably safe to win the semis and finals though, since we usually have rotating pics by that point.

Missingno is basically following the exact trends Charizard did: start out poorly, increase, falter at the Central ASV, and after that increase until the end of the match.

Missingno can beat Seph and still lose the contest. I think it's clear by now that jokes don't have to increase in strength every round, and Link in a 24-hour match is a good deal tougher to beat than Sephiroth in a 12-hour match.

red sox 777 | Posted 3/3/2010 1:43:25 PM | message detail
Yeah, 24 hours will hurt. Look at what happened to Snake in the 2008 final, or L-Block in the 2007 final. Both did way way better in the first half than the second- Snake lost the ASV to Crono in fact, giving him his only ASV win in who knows how long.

Lieutenant Kettch | Posted 3/3/2010 1:48:45 PM | message detail
Missingno has shown absolutely nothing in the way of early match support though. I don't see why a 24 hour match would hurt it at all when it's using the ASV to bury its opponents.

If it starts going up 500 votes at the freeze, then you'll have an argument.

KrahenProphet and Nintendo cleaned me out in the Guru Contest.
TheOneAboveAll | Posted 3/3/2010 1:49:42 PM | message detail
Unlike other jokes, MissingNo. has individual strength. Based on this match and the lack of rallying, I'd put it at 52% on Yoshi in a 12-hour day match. If he can get enough joke votes to beat Sephiroth in a night match, he should be able to beat Cloud when you add the beastly Pokemon day vote. Link may very well SFF No.'s actual fanbase into nothing and win in a huge blowout.
red sox 777 | Posted 3/3/2010 1:51:03 PM | message detail
Missingno hasn't got a match starting at midnight yet- he'll have a strong early vote then. Also, he won't be able to beat Link with the ASV like he's doing to Yoshi here.

Sephiroth would massacre Crono and Yoshi

Which is precisely why he doesn't stand a chance against Missingno. Joke characters are at their best when they have a backlash to work with, and there's no bigger backlash than FF7. Looking at the grueling path set out for the glitch, it would take a massive upset somewhere else to get someone weak enough to not activate Missingno.'s rally powers but strong enough to beat it--and that bandwagon's only going to get bigger with each passing round, so it's probably all over if it makes it out of the division. Why did they have to put it in a group of death like this?

Yes, it seems that with Yoshi apparently not up to the task, our only hope is the Last Free Man. Sure, maybe one of the non-Square elites can just outright overpower the glitch, but do you really trust Snake to take care of it, as cool as he may be? And we all saw back in 2006 how Link responds to a joke character after fighting through an entire tournament--quite simply, he doesn't. If only some of the other jokes were in the bottom half of the bracket...

missingno is going to get destroyed by sephiroth. He has shown no boost in power from round 1 to round 2. Like Lblock did as the rounds progressed. It's unrealistic to think he'll muster THAT much more strength to rival sephiroth. WONT happen.

Nice match. Thoughts:

1) There's obviously no bandwagon here. No surprises there.

2) Missigno is a super day vote guy. So
a) Crono wins a night match.
b) Yoshi might have eked out a night match win.
c) Sephiroth is laughing all the way to showdown with Snake.

3) Crono > Yoshi, but not by a whole lot. Good show, Yoshi.

Darn it, and here I thought I'd figured out for certain that Missingno. had this wrapped up. Of course! We still haven't seen what Missingno.'s trends would be in a night match! And we all know that Square owns the night...

Maybe Sephiroth has a chance after all.
