Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 861

For redsox:

A Yoshi victory here does not mean Crono is weak. In fact, there is a good chance Crono is stronger 1v1. It took the perfect storm for him to lose, and Yoshi matches up with Missingno quite well. Anyone who says Crono lacks legitimate strength is ridiculous; so were the opponents they each faced round 1. Magus could have had Laharl or Lloyd, Frog could have had Wesker or Captain John Price, and Crono could have had literally anyone else from 13 and below. Crono team ain't out yet.

Also, Bacon should set up Crono v. Yoshi for next contest. I know he's done straight seeding for the last few, but match setups like that are a great reason to sometimes eschew the nominations in favor of a better bracket.

To be fair Ulti that was a pretty spot on analysis they got you with the whole "Ulti's not going to elaborate so that if Yoshi wins he can talk about how obvious it was, and if it's wrong he can back off by saying it was just a gut feeling he didn't have any logic for." thing.

But all of us have done the same thing, so it's not too big a deal.

Ugh. I'm not sure I can take yet another close match with Missingno. @_@

Whoever wins will be crushed by Sephiroth though.

Crono is still strong, just not as strong as he used to be. He's dropped really far. I wouldn't be surprised if he got six seeded or something for CBIX.

Look at all you sissies in fear voting for Yoshi. This is what the make-up of your average Snake fan is? Sephiroth fans? We were voting for Missingno. because we wanted Sephiroth to get the glory of knocking it out.

This post is so stupid that it could only have been made by a Sephiroth fanboy.

Pre-emptive stats!

Yoshi – 50.00%
Missingno – 49.72%
Crono – 49.43%
Jak – 23.38%

LOL Jak. I said 5 minutes into that match that it was probably platformer SFF. Yoshi putting a beatdown on Jak says nothing about his strength.

By normal I mean non-rallied.

And we have no idea what a non-rallied Missingno means (well ignoring the whole "Missingno never got enough nominations to make the contest until this year" thing.) We probably won't know until next year.

His true "strength" could legitimately be anywhere from Yoshi to Guybrush. My intuition is that he probably has similar long term strength to WCC, but that's me just pulling a number out of thin air.

Coming from a guy who backs out of anything he loses, I find this ironic!

And I voted for Yoshi because I want him to win! I didn't think Missingno had any chance of beating Sephiroth next round anyway!

In fairness, sometimes it's really just not worth it to argue certain picks for whatever reason. Like I could argue Snake's chances against Sephiroth until the cows come home, but I don't see him being able to shine until he hits Auron/Squall. So I just leave it at "I feel good about his chances" and let it be.

Another reason I wanted Seph to get the glory of downing the glitch, because it would give him a non-SFF match to look at before Snake. Yoshi accomplishes this pretty well though too.

I wasn't here for the vote-in, but is there an obvious reason why Missingno wasn't rallied for that poll? That day's vote-in has the highest total combined votes of any vote-in poll, which suggests rallying for that day as well. (Obviously, Missingno had less rallying, but he also needed less rallying.)

Actually, I can easily understand people voting for Missingno. Pokemon was slow as balls and no matter how much fans claim to love it, very, very few people actually wanted to level up all their Pokeys the old fashioned way. Missingno was a godsend.

I'd vote for the Lion King world glitch from Kingdom Hearts II in half a second.

Missingno was the mercurial deity of Pokemon RBY. If you interacted with it correctly, it doubled your item. If you crossed it, he deleted your entire save.

Plus, you could actually CATCH Missingno. He was Bird type (no other Pokemon has that type) and new Water Gun, another Water Gun, and Sky Attack. When he leveled up once, he evolved into Kangaskhan. How awesome is that?
