Mega Man is considered Nintendo more than Zero, if that makes sense (Zero came after Nintendo started getting competition, Mega Man came before there was another company since the industry first crashed)...and I still don't buy Pit and King Dedede doing anything significant to him. There has always been too big of a movement to make Zero look better than he really is against Nintendo.

Of course, he's looking great right now. Zero was the underdog, MM-related options typically kick ass in the opening votes...if only he had brackets behind him, he'd really dominated it, but even then many brackets went down in flames by now; Ryu just knocked a lot out and hurt most of the board, we're over half-way through the second round, and Missingno is looming over us as a possible champion none of us have. Brackets should matter progressively less as any contest continues, and this contest is no exception. They probably don't matter that much now -- it's not like Dante beat Ryu hard with the board-vote or anything, and that one was debated.

Zero will drop from here, hopefully to something much more reasonable (even though I voted for him, but what-ev). He just fell big this last update and the night won't be kind to him later on.

Zero had that really nice match against Crono in 2007. That was the worst year for Crono, but he still got 48.5% on Vincent, so it still looks much better for Zero than 2006 or 2008, unless you think the sprite round helped out Crono a lot against Vincent.

No, MM/Zero were in a slump for the past few years. The evidence is undeniable. It is clear however that they have rebounded for whatever reason. MM has done really well killing two FF7 characters. Proto Man exceeded expectations and Zero has exceeded expectations twice now.

The first MMZ game was pretty ball breakingly difficult. I've beaten MM1-4 and X-X3 so I've no slouch at mega man games.

What slump were they in? Zero looked fine in 2007 before Link entered the picture, Mega Man did exactly what 2006 stats say on Samus in 2007 (a round after leading her for a good hour with his sprite pic) and last year both got stuck against eachother in the same match. Aside from that Vivi match (explainable by him being the only non-badassed option in the poll) both have looked fine and at least near where they were in 2005.

At least it seems I was right about Zero beating Aerith. Even if this finishes like 55-45 (I doubt it'll go past that... Zero is pretty stable now and won't lose that much over night since the morning vote should recover some of it), then Zero should have no problem beating Aerith.

Ah, you know it's funny, these people, they go to sleep. They think everything's fine, everything's good... They wake up the next day and they're on fire.

It's actually kind of impressive that Mega Man and co. are still as impressive as ever, considering the only notable thing they've had in the past few years is MM9, which wasn't that big. I guess they're just at that point where they're essentially icons now.

Is Zero benefiting from the Wii release of MM10? Doubt it, but you know how everyone loves to go on about these things!

Did I see right that MM10 came out today? If so...

...well, it's downloadable and not even technically a series Zero is in, so I'm not gonna give it much credit for Zero's success here. If it deserves some credit though, watch out for Charizard against Sora.

In 2007, he doesn't put up a fight and gets killed by Samus and Cloud in the poll. None of his wins (Yoshi etc) were impressive at all

In 2008, he and Zero couldn't beat Snake combined.

Now Zero

In 2006 he loses badly to Luigi in a 4-pack he was the favorite to win. It wouldn't have been so bad if Luigi didn't get massacred by Sonic

In 2007 Zero acts like fodder with Link/Crono/Vincent in the poll

In 2008 Zero LOSES to Ryu H and barely beats Vivi

30% on BL? Zack got 30% on 2008 Link, who's probably stronger than BL. Crono got 45% on Samus last year- he may be a tad overrated there, but 35% on BL is a lot more reasonable for him.

The Mega Man franchise has just been super-impressive so far. Makes me wonder if Mega can actually break 45% on Mario.

I think at this point, the board vote will be heavily against Mario in that match - Mega will likely be the board favorite.

I think it's pretty commonly accepted that Sora is up there with the big boys, and Mega Man stayed completely static with respect to most of the top of the field from 2005-2007. Cloud/Samus/Mega Man/Ryu was predicted to within .5% using Snake/Samus and Snake/Mega Man 2006.

2006 is easily explained by a strengthening Luigi (he beat Ganondorf!), Nintendo SFF, and a little Sonic/Luigi SFF. Any character would have folded in 2007 in Zero's position with the extremely close Vincent/Crono and the elephant (Link) in the room. Going by Zero/Crono the round before, he looks pretty close to his 2005/2006 numbers.
