~*Say What? Some Common Stat Topic Lingo Defined*~

SFF (Same Fanbase Factor) - Same Fanbase Factor is the theory that, if two contestants share a common fanbase, the weaker of the two options will underperform in a direct matchup. For instance, Link was expected to defeat Ganon with 65% of the vote in 2004, based on their 2003 values. Instead, Link collected near 88% of the vote, because the Zelda fanbase so clearly sided with him. However, take some SFF labels with a grain of salt, as many people will slap it onto any match that doesn't make total sense. This has caused a few SFF jokes, with LordOfDabu's "Some Frivolous Factor" being the funniest of them.

X-Stats - Short form of Extrapolated Statistics, aka the mathematical "strength" of a contestant that can be determined based on their performance in any given matchup. See above for a detailed explanation of the x-stat process.

Noble Nine - Link, Cloud, Sephiroth, Mario, Crono, Solid Snake, Sonic, Samus and Mega Man.

Near-Elite - The Squall, Auron, Tifa, Vincent, Zelda, Kirby, Missingno etc group that has come at, near or even ahead of Noble Nine characters in the past.

The Fodder Line - A final X-Stat value of 15% or below.

Sure, Pikachu's going to be a little inflated because of the sprite round (unless Snake actually gets an MGS1 model please please please please), but hey, it'll work!

Assuming Snake = Seph and assuming this ends at a 65/35 split, then Fox is worth 60% on Marth before SFF. If that sounds plausible to you, then you should be worried about Seph!

And it also gives Squall 47.59% based on his COMPLETELY AND TOTALLY FAIR match with Fox last year! And that's probably an underperformance of, oh, about 5% or so due to Smilin' Squall.

Not to mention, Fox with a full day vote would bring this down to about, oh, 62% or so.

Yep, Snake is absolutely crushing Fox now. He's gained .42% in the last 30 minutes, taking in 68.60% of the vote during that time.

That update was absolutely ghoulish! There's no question that Snake will reach the doubling; it's just a matter of whether he can wither the morning vote and hold it. I'd say a doubling over a guy like Fox, with a big picture contrast and an Old Snake pic (I'm still not convinced these don't affect him at all), is good.

And for whatever reason, I still think that damned DMC2 pic is the reason Dante lost. A good or bad pic can make the difference in a close match, after all.

Don't tell me you don't believe that a good or bad picture can make a difference in a close match. I could argue that Gordon could have probably hit 55% if Peach had gotten an ugly pic and Gordon got HL2 box art. Also, Kefka.

I beg to differ. Dante is a character who gets his strength from character design. Do you think Dante would've still lost if he had gotten, say, a pic with him pointing his guns?

And Dante isn't pic dependent? Look at Dante's pic in his match against Sonic in 2004: It absolutely sucked. If a bad picture can hurt Solid Snake, there's no reason to believe that it wouldn't hurt Dante as well.

He got less voted on the day yeah, but random variance alone (let alone pics) could change the result on a different day. You can't say he's definitely weaker and decide on any sort of confidence that he'd win a rematch

Guys, I just noticed something. Big Boss, Master Chief, Professor Layton, Riku, Captain MacMillan, Dante, and Ramza have all either underperformed/disappointed/ended up looking bad because the guy who defeated him/her ended up looking bad afterwards. Uhhh...you know what that means.

They were all in the bottom two divisions of the bracket in 2008 weren't they?

This means that Kirby may disappoint to some extent against Vivi, followed by him having no chance against Sonic. And that's proof that Kirby was bandwagoned, though then again it's not like our expectations were based on stats.

Kirby should still win regardless.

Kirby will likely get around the same on Vivi as he did on Rikku. Sonic's performances thus far are questionable, and Ganondorf relies on Ken still being almost as strong as he was in 2002/3, as well as Mewtwo having a fluke year in 2008.

Sonic will likely defeat Ganon by around 1000-4000 votes, and then lose to Kirby by 2000-6000 votes.

Kirby's a rSFF beast. He's proven this in the past against Buffed Bowser in 2005, and we all talk about how Sonic's now nintendo, so why not assume that helped Kirby win along with bandwagoning?
