Preeeeety sure Dante was the favorite on the board over Ryu in 2003. Someone would have to confirm that one for me.

Ryu was the favourite pre-contest, but Dante gained a lot of support after his match against Ryo.

Preeeeety sure Dante was the favorite on the board over Ryu in 2003. Someone would have to confirm that one for me.

I doubt it considering Ryu turned out to be the 10th strongest character in 02; I don't see why people would suddenly turn around and put Dante above him.

Ryu was the heavy favorite in 2003. People only started talking about it after Dante annihilated Ryo Hazuki

If Leon can hang with Ryu after today I think that'll pretty much vindicate my arguments today. It being the sprite round and with CaliforniaASVFEAR though, I'm expecting to have to wait on Cloud for that one.

X-stats weren't widespread in 2003. If they had been, that probably wouldn't have been a debated match at all.

I don't know if you can put Dante in the choker tier with the likes of Magus/Ocelot/Tidus/Shadow/DK/Chief. He's has 2 debatable matches and he's lost them in very close bouts. It's not like he embarrasses himself like the other aforementioned clowns

Dante's not down there with those guys. He'd beat them easily. He's kind of stuck in limbo in a tier all his own at this point.

I don't think a guy who loses close, debated matches deserves a hugely negative label for it.

To me the real chokers are those who massively disappoint and flop - e.g. Master Chump, and Kefka before this year, and Magus. Or who just outright blow matches like DK.

Dante did have favorable conditions here with the 12 hour match, and still failed, so criticism is warranted. But, he's definitely not earned the disrespect those others have, or anything close.

Leon could have also indirectly boosted from RE5, so it's not a foregone conclusion -- especially with how well RE characters have been doing this year (including Jill who barely had an appearance in RE5).

That said I expect at least a 55 - 45 from the strongest Ryu we've ever seen.

What do you mean? The 12-hour match killed Dante. He dominated Asia and Europe. He wins a 24-hour match or a night match here by a decent amount.
That reminds me, this is probably the first match this year that we can for sure say that day/night would have made a difference.
