Lucario was not worthwhile at all. He got doubled by Altair. You know,
the same Altair that got his ass kicked by Vivi last week. He struggled
to beat Isaac. Lucario proved to be fodder and as such he has not been
in a contest since. I'm not saying that he was strong, but I am saying that having him in the contest once, given his range of plausible strengths, made the contest more entertaining. |

that everyone that is in that game becomes more popular. It would be fun
though if by some miracle they added Sephiroth and Cloud. Then so many
people would pick Link,Cloud,Sephiroth and fighting each other... --- GameFaqs is NOT the place to go for relationship advice.Nobody here gets any action unless it is their right or left hand.Including me.~Dawn and Dusk~ |

Eww
at that last topic. What's with Ulti being a sucky baby lately? I guess
he has to be edgy by going from the "I'm more mature than you" moral
highground to "Quit being so stuck up you losers". I hate people that

Well
my point is that basing your entire bracket on SSB isn't a good idea.
Would Ness and Falcon win matches without the series? Very doubtful,
but that doesn't mean that every character in the series will get a
massive boost. --- :> |

From: Safer Sephiroth 777 | #168 Boost =/= Winning The Brawl Boost last year was nearly unidentifiable. It might have existed, but it certainly didn't make itself known very well. I'm more of the belief that SSB as a series has benefited all the characters it will ever benefit and that's the end of it. The strength people like Ness and Falcon have from it is as its max. --- :> |
KamikazePotato | Posted 2/27/2010 3:49:10 PM | message detail |
Brawl boost only existed for certain characters. Snake, Ike, Meta Knight. Lucario? Probably about as much as Lucas. We were expecting Lucario to win based on Pokemon, not Brawl, and unfortunately back then we didn't realize that RBY>>>DPP. --- KrahenProphet lived up to his name. |

So
do we have any theories for what happened to Captain Falcon between
2006 and 2008? Today's performance shows that 2008 was basically
entirely legit, and he's much much stronger than the guy who got 25%
against Crono back in 2006. I'd say he boosted from Brawl, except that
Melee made him, while he was awful in Brawl, and none of the other Melee characters seemed to boost from Brawl, only new characters. --- Missingno's quest to avenge Crono - Round 2: Yoshi |
KamikazePotato | Posted 2/27/2010 4:28:48 PM | message detail |
Captain
Falcon is a 'legitimate joke' character, essentially. The only
explanation I can think of for the boost is that Brawl A. Reminded
people of his memes B. Introduced new memes (Snake using Falcon Punch) C. Captain Falcon had some awesome moments in SSE. --- KrahenProphet lived up to his name. |
KamikazePotato | Posted 2/27/2010 4:29:37 PM | message detail |
Because
it wasn't how he was in Brawl's gameplay that helped him, that's for
certain. Falcon was at the bottom of Bottom tier of Brawl for two years. --- KrahenProphet lived up to his name. |

TheCodeisBosco | Posted 2/27/2010 4:32:59 PM | message detail |
Some factors that may have affected Falcon's strength: 1) The fads surrounding him - "FALCON PUNCH," "SHOW YA MOVES," etc. - are far more popular now than they were in 2006. 2) When he had his first match in '06, Melee was quite old; nearly five years old, to be exact. Today's match is held less than two years after the release of Brawl. 3) Falcon's scenes in The Subspace Emissary were absolute gold. Seriously, if you've never seen them, you're missing out. And to top it all off, there appears to be a Kingdom Hearts deboost. Not only did Riku underwhelm last round, but Sora, Roxas and Axel haven't been at their best this year either. --- CURRENT BRACKET SCORE: 90. Characters who helped my bracket most: Falcon, Sub-Zero, Jecht |

1) The fads surrounding him - "FALCON PUNCH," "SHOW YA MOVES," etc. - are far more popular now than they were in 2006. I dunno about that. And I dunno what you're talking about with Roxas! This year's the best he's ever done, but he also has reason for that to be the case. --- "The great GF...Bahamut." "...GF? I...? Using my powers...It is you humans...I fear..." |

Roxas
has been a good bit better this year than he has in previous years.
Axel and Sora will be vindicated after Dante and Sora crush their
respective competition! Riku sucks. --- KrahenProphet lived up to his name. |
PartOfYourWorld | Posted 2/27/2010 4:36:11 PM | message detail |
Maybe
starting off against a character of Crono's strength undervalued him
from the get-go. He'd have probably done much better against a standard
midcarder. The 2007 match is much easier to work around, since we can
just assume Fox siphoned his Smash support, which allowed Wario to make
it out riding traditional Nintendo and SMB support. Fox demolished that
poll, after all. --- Yoblazer: http://i38.tinypic.com/2s024p4.jpg Watch and you'll see... someday I'll be... part of your world! |

Riku
has only looked good twice. When he got 45% on Yoshi and when he beat
Ryu H in the second round somehow after Ryu beat both him and Roxas
combined in the first. He looked like trash last year and he looks bad
now. Further away we get from KH2 with no real KH sequel in sight that
will feature him, worse he'll probably look. --- Demyx is better than Axel. |
PartOfYourWorld | Posted 2/27/2010 4:42:04 PM | message detail |
From: KamikazePotato | #182 Yeah, you were probably right about that. Based on what he's doing today, it seems that Falcon's 60/40 against Pikachu (ie. much worse than Ike's 55/45) is due to Falcon relying that heavily on Smash support. Riku seems to be worth a legit 40% on Leon Kennedy, but it can be argued that Falcon's SFF'D 40% on Pikachu is more impressive, since he'd obviously be worth more indirectly. --- Yoblazer: http://i38.tinypic.com/2s024p4.jpg Watch and you'll see... someday I'll be... part of your world! |

Riku's
match against Hayabusa looks bad after you factor in how Hayabusa did
against Snake in 2008. it implies that Riku is only worth about 40% on
Vivi/Zero. --- KrahenProphet lived up to his name. |
TheCodeisBosco | Posted 2/27/2010 4:43:13 PM | message detail |
(looks at Roxas's Wikia article) Whoops, you guys are right. I remembered Roxas being more impressive for some reason... I think I got him mixed up with someone else. I still can't believe how terrible Sora's night vote was against Laharl. :\ Sora may be Square, but his trends are essentially the polar opposite from your average Square character. In a 24 hour match or a 12 hour day match, Sora breaks 70% easily. Of course, the fact that he's got Bowser in a night match is cause for concern, but thankfully, his night vote isn't as good as Laharl's either. --- "I can set you free, mate." Honestly,
I speculated it at the time of the match, but as bad as my Wander pic
was, there was absolutely no doubt that he was the Shadow of the

his other two matches, not so much. --- "I couldn't stand a day without a past or future. I need to live each moment to keep fighting here and now." |

Of
course, the fact that he's got Bowser in a night match is cause for
concern, but thankfully, his night vote isn't as good as Laharl's
either. But even still, I can't see Bowser posting 56% updates against Laharl. Seriously, that was just rubbish on Sora's behalf - though on the bright side, if Sora does survive Round Three, he'll have a day match against Charizard/L-Block. Really, the only thing that's bugging me so far is how 'good' Wander looked. Ironically, that was probably the best match picture Wander ever got... maybe that had something to do with it? --- CURRENT BRACKET SCORE: 90. I can't see Bowser posting 56% updates against Laharl. Nah, his night vote isn't as bad as Sora's, but I honestly doubt he does all that much better overall. --- "I couldn't stand a day without a past or future. I need to live each moment to keep fighting here and now." |
