I would love it if Dante easily beat Ryu, but that match will probably be close. I don't know about Captain Falcon though. I don't see it, I think Riku will easily beat him. What has Captain Falcon done? His one clean match was a tripling by Crono, on a good Nintendo year in 06 at that.

Riku did the same against Leon last year (39% on him) as Vault Boy did this year. Riku isn't some bastion of strength, and Captain Falcon looked very impressive last contest compared to previous years. He doesn't need to be that strong to beat Riku.

About as much as Captain Falcon has, only without any LFF assistance.

Okay, that's a lie. Stupid Hayabusa. He still didn't end up too far from Kratos in 2007, and I'll take that over anything Falcon's done, Kratos bombing notwithstanding.

But still, Falcon losing to Wario was pretty bad.

Yes, I'm sure someone's going to chime in and say Fox Smash LFF'd Falcon harder than Wario, and maybe you're right.

Hmm, Pikachu only got 42% on Leon in 07, which isn't enough of a difference between him and Riku for me to favor Captain Falcon. You guys are right though, he does look better than in 06.

Match LXXXV: (1) Cloud Strife vs. (8) Chris Redfield

Analysis

The Cloud board vote never ceases to amaze me. Ridley did perform a lot better than what people expected, but was that Ridley looking strong or Cloud showing signs of weakness or even being anti-voted. Like Jill Chris has no chance at winning this match so he might as well try to look as impressive as possible. No matter what happens people will use this match to compare Cloud and Samus thinking that the match may be close.

While some people like to blame Cloud for his performance I think the real culprit is Ridley. Later in the previous round Sephiroth was able to perform slightly better on Marth than what Cloud did to Ridley. When it comes to anti-votes I suspect that the two receive about the same support so if Sephiroth was able to look decent I think it is Ridley that boosted with his Smash picture rather than Cloud looking bad.

While it seems that the majority of the board supports Jill of being stronger than Chris, it is possible that the reverse is true. Chris was able to boost rather well in the previous contest putting up decent numbers against Sora and Fox and being the main character of Resident Evil 5 he had reason to boost higher than Jill. Either way Cloud should demolish Chris worse than Samus did to Jill because of the difference in strengths between the two characters.

If Cloud performs a lot worse on Chris than expected I feel warning bells should be rung. Still to be weaker than Samus or Solid Snake would be shocking considering how dominate Cloud is in this contest. I think we may be approaching a time where Link may be the supreme ruler of everything unless another joke rally takes off, isn’t that right Missingno.
