I wish we could see what Samus would have done with the ASV though. I guess Jill is likely to finish at or below what Rikku got. That would imply at least a small boost considering she barely beat Ocelot.

Looks like RE boost was indeed legit after seeing Jill and Wesker. Chris Redfield should be weaker than Jill but i would still like to see him breaking at least 32% on Cloud. Go Chris, don't disappoint me.

Cloud will have "momentum" riding into the match guys, it's over Cloud is tripling Chris.
But somehow I wouldn't be surprised to see Chris do worse than ridley because of that FFVII/RE playstation SFF theory we've often been throwing around.

Oh yeah, that PS1 SFF theory! I mean, in the 2004 games contest, MGS SFFd RE and FF7 SFFd MGS, so why couldn't FF7 SFF RE?

This contest seems to be featuring a resurgence of PS1 characters (though FF7 and MGS are somehow exempt from this), but I guess that could be wrong and it could simply be Link and Hayabusa failing to live up to expectations.

Chris and Jill are probably closer than we realize.

I just can't see Chris and Jill being close to each other. Jill was Capcom's girl in the late nineties even in non-RE games and Chris was never that big of a deal until they brought Wesker back and he needed someone to feud with. And even then Chris spent a good 90% of time on the losing end of that feud. And they used Jill's 'death' to hype people into buying RE5, which caused more more stir than had it been the other way around.

Jill is certainly probably stronger, but it'd be harder to deny that the gap between the two has been closed considerably, though I'm still entirely sure why Leon is that much more popular than Jill.
I mean before RE4, wouldn't it be safe to say that Leon's strength would have been laughable?

Samus versus... Sub-Zero? She could look good, but Samus in the sprite round has never exactly looked stellar.

Round after that will be pretty interesting, as Zelda seemed to have Samus' number in 2k6, looking WAY better than she should have. The namesake of Zelda getting at the Achilles' Heel of Samus makes sense, but I'm thinking Samus can put a little more distance between them this year.

I'm not expecting much in her match with Zelda. That's probably going to look just as bad for her now as it did in 2006.

Sub-Zero is her last chance to show off before Cloud

Especially considering that Samus has SFFd a Zelda character two years in a row (Midna in '07 and Ganondorf in '08). Wouldn't it be funny if Samus broke 60% and everybody was like Samus = Mario WTF? Unfortunately, Samus/Zelda II seems like it would be a night match...night match between two Nintendo characters = boring.

We should see Samus/Tifa in the night.

I blame Samus/Zelda 2006 on the Female Bracket. It's what happened to Sephiroth in the Villains Contest and what happened to FFVII after it beat OOT in the Games Contest. I think Samus being the obvious winner of the Female Bracket was partially responsible for Samus/Tifa too- never made sense that that match gave us the highest votals of the contest if people didn't know who ZSS was.

Match LXXXII: (5) Roxas vs. (13) Sub-Zero

Last Round

Roxas – 56.96%
Heavy – 43.04%

Tidus – 46.14%
Sub-Zero – 53.84%

Analysis

Welcome to the next edition of if I can defeat my round 1 opponent what makes you think that you have a chance against me? While the board gives Tidus a hard time for choking all of the time it is pretty clear that the guy has some decent strength. Roxas didn’t exactly inspire anyone that he has strength, especially after Master Chief went and lost to Hayabusa thus making Spy look bad. Interestingly enough this is a board upset, not because people had faith in Roxas, but because Tidus was the favourite to win his first and second round matches.

Heavy may have been rallied a bit and Roxas may have been stuck with a night match, but none of those things will make a great difference in this match. After watching Roxas, Riku and Axel perform it doesn’t seem the new Kingdom Hearts game made a difference in terms of their strength which is another nail in Roxas’ coffin.

Sub-Zero should realistically push for 60% in this match. While Sub-Zero was a rather late edition to the GameFAQs contest family he has proven his strength from time to time. Roxas was pretty lucky to get a weak opponent in the first round, but Sub-Zero is in another league.

charmander6000’s Bracket: Sub-Zero > Roxas

charmander6000’s Prediction: Sub-Zero wins, 60.38% - 39.62%

never made sense that that match gave us the highest votals of the contest if people didn't know who ZSS was.

Matches that were held on holidays/weekends tended to get noticeably more votes in 2006. More so than usual for whatever reason. Zelda/Yuna the day after was only 9,000 votes less, so it probably would have gotten the same numbers or come close had it been held on Election Day as well

Not sure what you mean there. I'd still pick Link > Cloud and definitely Link > Sephiroth even if a FF7 remake was announced, but there's no ****ing way I'd pick Samus, Snake, or Missingno to beat them then (not that I think any of them even have a real shot in the first place!).
