~*Say What? Some Common Stat Topic Lingo Defined*~

SFF (Same Fanbase Factor) - Same Fanbase Factor is the theory that, if two contestants share a common fanbase, the weaker of the two options will underperform in a direct matchup. For instance, Link was expected to defeat Ganon with 65% of the vote in 2004, based on their 2003 values. Instead, Link collected near 88% of the vote, because the Zelda fanbase so clearly sided with him. However, take some SFF labels with a grain of salt, as many people will slap it onto any match that doesn't make total sense. This has caused a few SFF jokes, with LordOfDabu's "Some Frivolous Factor" being the funniest of them.

X-Stats - Short form of Extrapolated Statistics, aka the mathematical "strength" of a contestant that can be determined based on their performance in any given matchup. See above for a detailed explanation of the x-stat process.

Noble Nine - Link, Cloud, Sephiroth, Mario, Crono, Solid Snake, Sonic, Samus and Mega Man.

Near-Elite - The Squall, Auron, Tifa, Vincent, Zelda, Kirby, etc group that has come at, near or even ahead of Noble Nine characters in the past.

The Fodder Line - A final X-Stat value of 15% or below.

There's a 7-11 that's like 7 minutes from my dorm, and I frequently go there and get Double Gulps and they have those Mass Effect 2 cups, but those are only 32 ounces, so I'm always tempted to get one so I can get some sort of code to do something in the game, but always side with the idea of getting twice as much liquid.

Duke Nukem isn't that good in 1vs1. Ryu got 70% on him in 2003 and why would he boost at all since then. Ryu also got 56% on Kratos several years ago. Charizard got like 64% on Duke. The only thing that wouldn't line up if Kratos wins tomorrow is Tails but then again, Tails did get 43% on Dante in 2004

I have to agree with Hochi on this. Duke Nukem, if you ask me, seems like a four-way creation.

I think in the middle of the Games contest my computer died on me, and I missed a lot of these matches. I missed Halo/Starcraft for example, despite having SC > Halo.

At the time I didn't care as much(I think I was obsessed with some girl back then), but now I am like "God damn I missed a part of history).

I followed CT/LttP from someone else's PC too. =( How on Earth did I get stuck missing probably the best contest we've ever had? Just my luck. ;_;

I remember that match since it glitches and only accepted votes from GameFAQs users. Xenogears was winning with like 55%

So they had to rerun and everyone that had Pokemon winning figured that with votes from casuals coming in Pokemon had a shot to win and then Xenogears ends up doing better with the non registered users >_>

Isaac might kill overnight if this trend continues. He has 4 straight 41% updates (we say 3 is a trend, right?)

Come to think of it, it is truly amazing that Missingno could put on such a spectacular performance against Crono when other joke characters are showing a huge sign of weakness.

WCC failed to break 55% against a high fodder(MG character) in the day and right now L-Block couldn't even put on a respectable performance against Issac who was once doubled by 2008 Altair.

Heart Division: Round 2 - Match 80 – (7) Charizard vs. (2) Kratos

Moltar’s Analysis

Round 1 - 64.25% vs. Duke

Charizard crushing Duke was definitely impressive. However, since then we’ve seen Altair bomb against Vivi, who Duke narrowly beat in 2008. Is it right to call Altair’s performance a bomb though? I mean, I certainly didn’t expect him to be worth 45% on Vivi pre-contest.

Kratos failing to crush Tails was definitely not impressive. However, since then we’ve seen Ammy, who is a bit stronger than Shadow, do very well on Luigi, somewhat vindicating Sonic Team. Does this mean that all three members of the Knuckles/Shadow/Tails trio are all midcarders? I’m a bit hesitant to put Tails that high because in recent times, he has not looked as good as he did many years ago when he was doing good against Dante or Auron.

This should be a fairly close match. Charizard has the advantage and momentum going into the match. Altair and Kefka had good contest runs, and Niko had reason to fall off the face of the Earth. His beatdown of Duke, even with the picture disadvantage, won many people over. Meanwhile, the jury is still out on Sonic Team, but Kratos’s performance against Tails may not be as bad as it seemed. Still, it’s an iffy performance, and I’ll go with the one that was ‘impressive’ over the one that was ‘iffy’. I like Charizard here more at the moment.

Also, I’ve gotten the last match of every division in Round 2 wrong so far in my bracket. Today, the trend must continue!

Lopen’s Analysis

Now I'm not going to say the GoW3 hype machine has even come close to the Halo 3 hype machine, but man just look at those things. They're awesome. It's definitely in motion, though I don't think it's going to help Kratos much this match. Not just yet.

Thing is, although Charizard vs Duke was a pseudo debatable match when the contest started, he didn't really hit that level to put Kratos at a decisive disadvantage. That whole Link division from last year has ended up looking pretty crappy... and sure, Sonic team has too but what can you do. Way I see it, I think of it this way: Duke vs Tails who you got? If Duke was an overwhelming favorite when the contest started in that match, I'd be pretty surprised.

Now throw in Mr Prower's ability to seemingly look great against badasses as we saw back in 2004 against Dante, and you've gotta wonder if Charizard really looked better last round.

I don't think he did. This'll be a somewhat close one, but I like Kratos here. Hype (though not in full force) on his side and all the factors in the r1 matches point towards his performance being the more impressive one.

Transience’s Analysis

Big match today! With neither Bowser nor Sora really impressing, could Charizard or Kratos take the division?

Kratos was the favourite pre-contest due to being an established character. Kratos vs. Mewtwo would be a tossup, so unless Charizard was stronger than Mewtwo, Kratos was the way to go. Kratos kind of bombed his r1 match though and looks very vulnerable.

Charizard had a pretty big range. Some thought he'd lose to Duke Nukem while others thought he'd storm the division. Charizard went and nearly doubled Duke Nukem, leading most to believe that he'd beat Kratos easily.

I wasn't as impressed as others were though. I think last year's first division is way overrated. Altair bombed, Zack got somewhat exposed and Duke Nukem lost badly. Some people think Duke Nukem has strength, but that's just because of fortunate bracket placement and the fourway format. Duke Nukem is the perfect character to overperform in a fourway setting thanks to his joke appeal. I would take Tails to beat Duke Nukem even with how bad Sonic Team has been sucking it up.

Ultimately, I think this match is a tossup and I'm going to support the god of war. I'm not 100% sold on Charizard. Kratos has been sucking it up his last few contest matches, but I'll hesitantly back him. Hopefully God of War 3 hype has reached some people. Doubtful, but I just don't trust the 'zard.

Here was one of the most highly anticipated matches in the second round before the contest. Kratos was the favorite then- but after seeing Charizard get 64% on Duke at night despite an awesome American flag background picture for Duke, and Kratos proceeding to barely break 60% on Tails- the excitement for this has completely died down. Everyone has more or less conceded Charizard's victory, and the only question whether he'll win by enough to win the division over Bowser, Sora, and L-Block. After Sora did badly against Laharl, I think Charizard's the favorite now. Duke looks a lot worse than before now though, after seeing Zack and Altair in round 2, which is a matter for some concern, but Charizard still should look pretty good.

Prediction: Charizard with 60.24%

Analysis

Pre-contest this match was pretty debatable, but a one, two punch in the form of Charizard over performing and Kratos underperforming has caused the debates to drop dramatically. It’s pretty hard to argue for Kratos when he arguably had one of the worst flops of the round. While a lot of people have flipped in their support of which character will win I still believe that Kratos will put up a decent performance and that some people may be overrating Charizard a bit.

Duke Nukem getting crushed was pretty shocking, but some people are treating that performance puts him at around Vincent or Squall level. Duke Nukem is a low mid-card and while I’m not taking anything away from Charizard that still puts him at around Zack’s level which is very decent, just not elite. As for this match Charizard should be the favourite, Kratos would probably have failed to break the percent last year.

I’m still in disbelief on how badly Kratos performed last round. Sure Knuckles and Shadow look a lot better now than they did in the first round due to their opponents looking better, but Tails would have needed a crazy boost to not make Kratos look bad in this match. Adding Charizard’s performance on Duke Nukem and we have an upset waiting to happen. The only way for Kratos to have a chance is if God of War 3 hype has gone up exponentially since the last round or if some kind of contest Gods causes the upset to happen.

Charizard has every reason to win yet there’s a chance that our original favourite will win. I don’t really know how to describe it, but I just can’t see Charizard winning this match. If he does I’ll be hysterical, but I’m going to side with my bracket on this one.

Oh thank god.

If the Crew was decisively in favor of Charizard, I would be worried. But saying Kratos still has a chance and this could be close? That's a recipe for Zard busting out 60%!
