Yeah, based on last year, Laharl would get about 38% on Riku. Riku isn't particularly strong, but that's not a bad showing.

Laharl has gotten stronger over the years while Vyse has dropped off.

I'm not sure if Laharl got stronger so much as "stayed relevant."

Vyse definitely got weaker though. I doubt anyone even heard of his game by now.

Laharl would win now without a doubt, but it still shocks me that someone who lost to Vyse is doing this well. I think he can hold it above 30%.

Disgaea slowly getting more attention between the Games Contest and Laharl's continued presence in the contests makes sense to me. He's become more and more established over the years.

Not really. Laharl has gotten 26% or so on Yoshi, Kirby, and Dante in the last three contests. That seems pretty consistent.

It was the upset special because Felix is Not Chief. I remember 2003 quite clearly.
This "anti-vote" stuff is just a part of Chief's inherent strength, it's no different. Dude just isn't that damn popular here. And this was not a surprise in 2k3. Most knew he wouldn't be that popular.


I'm not even disagreeing with you. Yes, GS and Felix had a lot of people hyping that upset. But it was Halo vs Not Halo during that match, and afterwards Golden Sun became huge on Board 8. Felix in 2003 was Crono in 2002, a huge contest shock that caused everyone to play the game.

If you adjust for the 1st half/2nd half of the day difference, I think this will probably end up as an "expected-ish" performance by Sora. Don't think it tells us much either way.

Laharl is actually during worse in Europe and better in North America, which makes no flipping sense but it's early so who knows.

Both Hogger and Ramza were rallied like crazy in that match. I take Laharl over both of them in a fair fight.

Wasn't Bowser always a real threat? Fox McCloud almost got 44% against Sora last year. If you think Bowser gives Fox the old 55/45 before SFF, then it's already a tossup. I went with Sora not because I trusted him to be a crusher, but because Bowser has looked worse and worse since 2005.

Felix in 2003 was Crono in 2002, a huge contest shock that caused everyone to play the game.

But Crono's strength never really changed after that - he barely budged from his 2k2 strength for years. So why does this matter?

People just didn't understand before that contest that this site is basically the largest Chrono Trigger fanbase on the net.

And L Block is just a random tetris block. You know there's more to it than that, Hogger is a joke which the other thousand enemies can't claim to be.

I'm sure Laharl would take him one-on-one... but I'm also sure we never need to see Hogger in another contest.

Sora is just barely doubling Laharl.

Not sure if Bowser takes down Sora, but even if he doesn't, Charizard has got this.

Yeah, the thing about Sora is, there was two performances that really looked bad for him - that one against Fox, and also him getting 60/40d by Squall in 2k7 once Aeris was removed. He does have a downside risk.

I'd point out the Tingle match as well. Just 75% and then went on to put up 46% on Mega Man.

Nintendo's looking fine. Plus, this is probably Bowser's biggest year in awhile. Not enough to give him a notable boost, but it should stem any potential bleeding he's doing.

Laharl may be stronger, but Yoshi's already hit 73.66% on Laharl before (granted, in 2005). Sora probably hits 70% in a 24-hour match, but Sora/Bowser will also be a night match.

A Bowser upset is very feasible at this point. If Bowser kicks Kefka's ass next match, I might even lean to him being the favorite. Of course, who the hell knows how strong Kefka's going to be.

The thing about Sora, though, is that I don't think he's ever lost a debated match (I can't remember whether the 2003 loss to Aeris was debated). He may not blow out fodder, but the kid shows up when it counts.

Tales of the Abyss sold 15k copies outside of Japan. It's a miracle anyone from that game ever got into a contest.

Fortunately for Sora, Bowser is more of a day guy too.

Unfortunately for Sora, he's not quite as unbalanced as Sora. And Bowser will have that great Mario morning vote. The morning vote might decide that match, and Sora's nothing special with it, just average really.

And we thought so little of Sora that we didn't even think Aerith/Sora was SFF!

It's not just a fad. The problem is that there so damn many of them!! Their numbers are overwhelming! And...why?! How does a FF8 get 1 lone rep ever (not counting the female bracket), and Tales gets 26 gajillion??

It makes no damn sense. Nobody wants to see these guys, yet they keep coming...and coming...and coming...
