I would have absolutely put Missingno. at at the very least a near-elite level and maybe even middle of the Noble Nine if he had been in our first tournament. You extremely underestimate the power of a glitch that every single person who played R/B (meaning everyone) used to help them achieve certain goals in the game or to just level up quickly to be able to beat the Elite Four.

So i've been thinking about our upcoming match with MM/Zack and i have some questions for you guys.

Do you think Yuna would do better against MM than Cid, and if so by how much?

Do you think SFF was at play in the Zack/Yuna match, and if so what do you think Zack's % would be without SFF?

Because i could see Yuna being stronger than Cid by enough to break 40% on MM... which means Zack would actually be about equal to MM unless he was SFF'ing Yuna in their match.

Or am i letting fanboy bias affect my judgement again?

Zack got 55% against MMX last year with Link and Mario in the poll, so he's probably pretty close to MMX in strength. It's hard to see him winning tonight unless you think MM = MMX.

Yeah i knew all that already. With X's performances so far this year i definitely don't think he equals MM any more (i did when i made my bracket), but Zack might have boosted since then as more people played Crisis Core and MM might be declining since his newest release was made to appeal to old-school gamers who already liked him.

Man that sounds like fanboy spin even to me.

You extremely underestimate the power of a glitch that every single person who played R/B (meaning everyone) used to help them achieve certain goals in the game or to just level up quickly to be able to beat the Elite Four.

L-Block had 100 times the reason to be strong that Missingno has. EVERYONE used L-Block. Literally. Every person. Probably 99+% of people here have played Tetris.

He was still not all that strong until he got bandwagoned, as mentioned earlier.

As I said - he was the Jackie Robinson of jokes. He's elevated the strength levels for all jokes. Before him, jokes "weren't taking seriously", to use a slight pun :) Jokes being taken "seriously" makes a world of difference for their strength.

Match LXXV: (3) Mega Man vs. (6) Zack Fair

Mega Man – 63.04%
Cid Highwind – 36.96%

Zack Fair – 58.61%
Yuna – 41.39%

Analysis

I’m not sure if anyone else is feeling it, but this match has Mario/Big Boss written all over it, I guess that happens when you have the two originals battling it out against two noble nine characters. Both of these characters manage to impress the board in their expectations and as much as the board loves Zack I don’t see the guy winning. Zack will make this respectable, but at the same time he won’t be in this match.

While Mega Man is not quite in that Solid Snake/Mario/Samus tier he’s not as weak as Sonic as some people seem to think. While his loss to WCC was pretty embarrassing Zero being in that match was the reason for that to happen. I still believe that Mega Man is a clear level above Vincent/Squall/Auron which puts him in a great position in this and next round. Even though Mega Man X is in this contest it doesn’t seem that Mega Man is weaker as Mega Man X fans still support him.

Speaking of Mega Man X Zack was able to defeat him last contest though that was with Link and Mario in the same poll. Given Mega Man X’s performance this contest it appears that the guy is a bit weaker than the original Mega Man meaning Zack doesn’t even have that to use to his advantage. While Yuna is a legit opponent the performance that Zack put up does not quite match what characters of Mega Man’s strength would have put up.

I would expect Zack and Cid to have an interesting match before any SFF would occur, but I would take Zack to win overall. Mega Man has a great chance at breaking 60%, but don’t call him weak if he fails to do so as Zack isn’t some push over.

Theres a great chance for 60% unless you think Zack is closer to Tifa/Vincent than Aerith/Cid. Which I find a very hard pillow to swallow.

Aren't expectations for Vincent/Tifa ranging from 47% to tight victories? Because Cid got 36.96% on Mega Man and there's a lot of room between those two to break 40% and still be closer to Cid.

Serious question! Mega Man in general seems to be on the rise this year, so why not contemplate an awesome yet unlikely upset?

I don't know if it's Mega Man on the rise or what. MGS has underwhelmed so far in this contest, so Protoman's good show on Snake doesn't look that great. The jury's still out on Zero because Marcus Fenix dropped like a rock between 2007 and 2008, so who's to say he didn't drop again? I've been less than impressed with Mega Man X. Mega Man looked good in round 1, but Cid's an unknown quantity.

But I'll still answer your question. Mega Man needs at least 60% before I'd even consider him beating Mario.

It would be tough for Mega Man to do anything here to pass the beating Mario put on Big Boss. Though some may be impressed with 60%+, I don't think even that will matter since I'd put it more on Zack not living up to expectations than Mega Man outdoing them.

Cid is garbage. Why do people over-rate him so much. Why do people think that Mega Man is still as strong as Sonic? (He isn't.)

Mario vs. Mega Man would have been a great match any time before 2005. In the first three contests, they looked like near equals every year. It's sad that we're getting it now when Mega Man pretty much has no chance.

Yeah, I don't really think Aerith = Yuna now, but I doubt it's too big of a difference. I'd say she's worth about 38-40% on Auron indirectly.

Zack is stronger than Auron -- why would that be a tough pill to swallow? Especially if Zack has his buster sword picture (I wish he had it for this match).

That said Cid =/= Aeris or Yuna, he's a tier below them. How can you guys seriously glean that kind of crap from vote in polls with like 10 other characters in there, especially when even 4 ways are very hard to gauge themselves. @_@ Good lord.

Cid isn't strong -- Lightning is stronger -- although I would say that Aeris and Yuna are stronger than them both right now, Lightning might actually be stronger. Especially since everyone and their sister who is looking forward to FFXIII knows who Lightning is already. At least everyone that comes to this site.
