Sonic got what, 52% on Vincent in 2006? 2006 Sonic = 2006 Mega Man, and Vincent looked like crap this year and last year. Think it's pretty safe to say that Mega Man still beats that Squall/Vincent/Auron trio comfortably enough.

I just think people are having way too much faith in a guy who was stuck behind a crap of LFF and SFF last year, and his only match this year was a SFF match. Lets see how he does in his first true non SFF match since he beat Wario, it will tell us where he really stands. I just don't buy someone who got like 58% on Wario in the only match not laced with SFF as being very strong.

Zack had Cecil holding him down in that match (and looking at Cecil this year, it's OBVIOUS there was a ton of SFF there). He manhandles Wario in a fair match.

We've never seen much LFF between new and old square. Remember, Auron got almost exactly the same on Subby in 2008 with Rydia in the poll as he did in 2006. So I don't buy Cecil hurting him in any significant way.

One, people forget that Wario looked surprisingly good after that division ended. Two, Zack was also dealing with Cecil in their first match.

I get that you feel like Zack is unproven, and I felt that way coming into this contest too. That said, Yuna was his chance to prove himself to me, and he did everything 2008 suggested. It's not like Yuna and Cid will be far apart anyway. Zack's going to look fine against Mega Man.

Zack will get 37% at an absolute worst, because no way Cid does what he did last year. I'm thinking somewhere around 42-43%. Enough to validate last year, but still not enough to threaten guys like Sora. Zack could be a real dark horse with good bracketplacement against some higher midcarders.

This is his true match for me. I can't buy him somehow being totally legit just because he did well in a SFF match. If Zack is able to get near mid 40s here, he's legit. I just can't see it happening, though.

Too bad we won't have a better idea of where Zack sits because Mega Man got fed to Mario. Either he's going to be heavily underrated because Mega Man is consistent with 2006, or he's going to be heavily overrated if Mega Man has dropped noticeably (doubtful)

Wario was also the standout character in that match. Most casual gamers will know who Wario is but won't have a clue who Zack, Cecil or Jade are.

Zack is the weirdest character to me. I'm still blown away that he's like, a step behind the elites despite his limited presence. I can understand people resisting his strength until the very end >_>

On the other hand, I did like Zack more than any of the playable characters just going from FF7 alone. I guess that sentiment is surprisingly common! Not that it's a hard task, most of the playable characters are pretty meh...

While this may be true (I still need to play Crisis Core.. damn backlog), I can't buy a PSP game making a guy a near elite. I still think the majority of his strength is from FFVII.

I'd be really surprised if even 1/4th of the site has played Crisis Core, and he was able to get 58% on Yuna. By that alone should say more then half of his votes come from sources other then Crisis Core... aka FFVII.

Well, it is true when you realize that noone would have played Crisis Core if it didn't have FF7 tacked onto it. And like others have said, Zack has probably the best personality of anyone from a 3-D Final Fantasy. He's basically Cloud with black hair and not as whiny.

Zack has an outside chance of beating Mega Man outright (it doesn't help Mega Man that it's a night match, with no ASV). But at the same time Zack doesn't get his Buster Sword look so he might be lacking in a lot of Cloud votes.

I think at worst Zack gets 45% and has an upward limit of 52%.

Again, Sonic > Mega Man > Crono. Show me verifiable 1v1 data that states otherwise. Also Lightning would > Cid any day of the week, at any time of day. Why you would list Sonic beating Lightning worse than Mega beat Cid as a pro is beyond me.

Yeah, but it wasn't a SFF-match like Zidane or Cecil (who I don't really think had SFF/LFF with Zack, but other people are saying it after Cecil impressed against Knuckles and don't think Dissidia alone accounts for it, so what-ev). Yuna's probably the #3-woman of the FF-series here until FF13 hits America and is one of the few FF-characters who can say they were a major character in more than one FF-game. She might have been in KH, too (I forget, anybody care to confirm/deny?).

Zack beating her with ~59% in his first one-on-one match showed two big things: Zack has a lot of fans instead of a few very dedicated ones, and he has a good place with FF-fans instead of being a fair-weather favorite. It doesn't hurt that he out-nominated Vincent/Tifa/Aeris/Cid, too, though that's not to say he beats all of them. Zack can prove himself again with a good match against Mega Man, but he's already proven.

I truly believe with a good Buster Sword picture Zack is the #3 FF character easily. Just too close of a character design to Cloud Strife (not to mention being the basis for his character in the FF7 storyline).

Cloud > Seph >> Zack > Squall > Vincent > Auron

Yuna was in KH2, but she was only featured in three scenes, each about a minute long at most.

I don't like the idea that Zack gets the majority of his strength from FF7, but these polls from right after 2008's contest suggest CC:FF7 couldn't have had a lot to do with it either. CC:FF7 lost to a CT-port and a WoW-expansion, and we've seen every character from both series lose hard in the first round this contest. The PSP-ownership was much lower then than it is now, not to mention the PSP took an easy last place for the forth year in a row the SotY-poll the year CC:FF7 came out (fun-fact: if it wasn't for the iPhone being included in 2009, the PSP would have made it five in a row despite Dissidia).

We've also never seen a handheld-only character do well...or at least, until Missingno happened this year, but that's a famous glitch/joke from a FAR larger game than CC:FF7. Who are the strongest handheld-characters you can think of besides Missingno? Phoenix, Isaac, Bidoof, maybe a few others around that range? Zack is way beyond any of them, and the only other thing he's got besides CC:FF7 is his cameo in FF7.

I get he's in the contests because he gets his nominations from CC:FF7 and accept that's a big reason why his fans like him. Still, from what we've seen from handheld-games and characters and how CC:FF7 didn't do anything special...I mean, arguing CC:FF7 is his main source of strength feels just as dirty as arguing FF7 is his main source of strength, though one of those has to be the case unless they're literally 50/50. At least we know through Yuna now that both sides of his fanbase are real fans, but it's still a matter of why he's strong.

Aside from the fact that the 3 of them were close enough in 2006 that they could be considered equal, Sonic has taken a nosedive in popularity since then, and only his "just-after Brawl announcement" match showed any signs of him having a pulse. Ignoring 4-way x-stats because most of them are pretty unreliable is one thing, ignoring everything that's happened in the last 2 years is just simply asinine. It doesn't take a contest veteran to realize that that little trio is clearly Mega Man > Crono > Sonic nowadays.

There's not much saying MM > Crono, considering that Crono lost and then won against Vincent, while MM lost to the Cube. At best they pretty much remained equal to each other throughout the four-ways. Worst, Crono looks stronger.

MissingNo upsetting Crono probably points towards MM > Crono, but we can't say that with any sort of logical reasoning until MissingNo's match with Yoshi/Sephiroth.
