Analysis

This match has the potential of shaping up as another Mario/Shadow match. I would consider Mario/Solid Snake to be a good match, but like Shadow Big Boss is no Solid Snake. I expect Big Boss to have a decent performance, but to actually steal the win for this match is something I find hard to believe.

Mario and Big Boss have had a match before where he had his Naked Snake picture back in 2007 where Mario won in a convincing 65/35 manner. Since then MGS4 has been released and given his performance against Kirby it is likely that the guy boosted. Not enough to reverse what he got on Mario, but enough to make a cut into that percent.

It’s quite amazing how weak Big Boss was back in 2005. Recovering from a 70/30 loss to a chance to win against Auron is pretty amazing. Mario should push for the high 50s, but I think breaking 60% is a bit much unless Big Boss gets a bad picture, but looking at last contest the only bad picture of him would be if he gets the melty art that he got in round 1 of 2007.

Mario was probably pretty steady from 2005 to 2007- that 38% he put up on Link with Sephiroth in the poll is to me the most impressive match he's ever had. He got a higher absolute percentage than Crono or Vincent did the previous match, making it look like he could defeat them even with Link present. It was 2008 when the dropoff came and Mario had to resort to excuses that weren't very convincing in every round.

Mario let MMX, Liquid, Zack, and Samus get too close to him in 2008, and he let Crono beat him by too much, even considering the circumstances, for him to look on par with Mario 2005 and 2007. There's only so far LFF gets you.

This honestly wouldn't shock me. If theres any character that is a 4way wonder, its Big Boss. Theres no reason to logically expect him to go from 30% on Auron to killing Kirby without any new releases or reasons to get stronger. Sure, theres the match pic, but tonights pic isn't even Naked Snake.

He has? Which? I thought he was only in MGS3 in terms of newer games. Or did he have a cameo in MGS4? (Though I thought he'd be long dead by that point since he was already mid 30s in the 60s...)

While that is a good point, we gotta realize how strong Miles Edgeworth is. IF Falcon could get over 70% on Wander, someone whos a bit stronger then Falcon doesn't shock me getting 75% on Edgeworth. I don't think Big Boss is weak or anything, he's definently a solid mid carder while leaning towards the higher end of them, but I don't think he's the near elite we saw from 4ways.

Back during his match with Auron I think he was kind of in an unstable position. They used his old man pic and I think a lot of people back then weren't really sure if they should really count Naked Snake as Big Boss(It's hard not to just see him as Solid Snake for some people, I think), but as the series went on they gradually separated the Big Boss persona from Solid Snake and made him his own character character, so people feel more comfortable with it now.

After looking it up, its Portable Ops, a PSP Metal Gear game. I doubt that does much for him, though. It wasn't hyped as much as Peacewalker was.

He's still pretty old in MGS4, but he looks really cool when the old-ness isn't in Sean Connery form or Melty.
