It was more 53 - 47 actually. .2 of a percent off.

That said his match against Cecil is easily explained by Cecil gaining more mainstream FF exposure due to ports and Dissidia (after being SFFed to death by Zack).

As far as Sonic Team is concerned they've all performed above their 4 way expectations (this is going on the assumption that Lightning > Cid, and she would beat him). Knuckles is the only one who supposedly hasn't, but I just think that it's hard to gauge Cecil now due to his SFF against Zack (who will beat Mega Man, or at least come very close) and not being in a 1v1 since...what 2004 or 5? A year he got crushed by Kirby because of the huge Nintendo crapfest.

Actually I had already addressed the Kirby thing, and why Cecil had a reason to boost. As opposed to no reason for Knuckles de-boosting as much as is said.

Zack doesn't have as much of a chance in the face round as I thought he would originally (because I didn't realize there was a face round). He will miss out on a lot of his draw because of it (the buster sword).

Ok anyway, girl, your argument had no logic to it at all. Like I said, ports of Cecil's game to newer systems, plus Dissidia, contribute to an obviously stronger Cecil (not to mention he would have underperformed heavily that year due to the NintendoFAQs boost). So what about your 'logic' was actually...logic. Just because it's the same year doesn't mean that the circumstances remain the same. Cecil has reason to boost, and while Knux might have very little reason to decline, it would be minimal at best.

Hochi is so very intelligent he foresaw how amazingly pathetic Cloud would be in 2007. So, while not even he could predict who would defeat Cloud, he had the foresight to choose Cloud > Link. Thus gaining many more points than the rest of us by virtue of having Link in second when Cloud failed to place entirely.

Match LXIX: (1) Sonic the Hedgehog vs. (9) Knuckles the Echidna

Last Round

Sonic the Hedgehog – 63.86%
Lightning – 36.14%

Cecil Harvey – 48.00%
Knuckles the Echidna – 52.00%

Analysis

It’s the only match that CJayC didn’t set up in 2004 though that was probably because we needed a third Solid Snake/Knuckles match. I feel that Knuckles is one of the most unlucky guys in the bracket in terms of placement. As awesome as the upset would be realistically Knuckles has no chance and Sonic may be in line for his first SFF match.

The main question is how bad the SFF will be in this match. Looking at the old favourite Sonic character poll Knuckles actually won that meaning that he has some hardcore fans. I don’t see this turning into a Link/Ganondorf affair and while no SFF present would be a surprise the end result will probably be closer to the latter.

Sonic not having an accurate reading for his round 3 match builds up the mysteriousness and while he didn’t look so great against Lightning we don’t really know the extent of her strength. Sonic should approach 70% in this match and may even get the blowout of the round if more Sonic fans decide to side with Sonic overall.

Quick Summary: If DK faces someone like Cloud, he'll perform normally. But if he faces Mario, he'll get absolutely killed, because DK fans are also Mario fans. Results in over/underperformances in certain matches.

Basically when two characters have a lot of the same fans, for example Sonic/Knuckles is the perfect example, but one is liked much more than the other. This results in Sonic looking a lot stronger than he would normally as a lot of Knuckles fans vote for Sonic instead.

For the record, I think you may be onto something with Altair > Kirby (and even Altair > Sonic, though I know you aren't taking that one). Kirby and then Sonic are still the favorites in my mind in those matches, but I wouldn't be too surprised if Altair pulled it off.
