Jenova Division Grades

Sephiroth - He did better than Cloud did against Ridley on Marth here, who is almost certainly stronger than Ridley. Seems strange to think that Cloud is being anti-voted that much harder than Sephiroth, but there ya go.

Grade: B

Marth - He did okay, but I think a lot of us were hoping he could break 30% on Sephy and make him look particularly bad, but that didn't happen. Oh well, 28% on Sephy is still pretty good.

Grade: C-

Vincent Valentine - Normally, only getting 77% on Guybrush would be disappointing, but this is anti-blowoutFAQs, so I'll cut Vinny some slack. Not that it really matters since he's just going to get SFF'd next round anyway.

Grade: C

Guybrush Threepwood - He did pretty well, all things considered. He's still not winning a match anytime soon though.

Grade: D+
Stats Topic on the day of this match: F

Yoshi - He generated some buzz on that round 2 showdown with Crono (LOL Whoops) with a strong performance against Jak, though there may have been some platformer SFF at play here or something. Either way, good show.

Grade: A-

Jak - Inferior to Ratchet & Clank.

Crono - He broke the Noble Nine. What more needs to be said?

Missingno - It glitched the Noble Nine. What more needs to be said?

Grade: A+

Soap MacTavish - The Crono/Missingno aftermath overshadowed this match, which may be good for Soap, who looked awful in this match. This one was a debatable match with a lot on the line, and after Price got 35% on MMX, a lot of people started to feel good about Soap. Well, he only did 3% better on Big Daddy than Price did on Mega Man X, and I don't think Big Daddy is going to be giving MMX a good match any time soon.

Grade: F

Big Daddy - We don't know exactly how much of this was Bioshock 2 at work, but it certainly seems to have helped. He still won so handily that it seems like Big Daddy would have won without it anyway. Strong showing here and looking good going into that showdown with Ness.

Grade: A

Ness - He did what he needed to do against Geno to keep that round 2 match up for grabs. Hopefully, it'll be a good one.

Grade: B+

Geno - We want Mallow.

Grade: F

Yuri Lowell - He did worse on Tifa than Guybrush Threepwood did on Vincent. That should tell you everything you need to know.

Grade: F

Tifa Lockhart - She got the third biggest blowout of the contest despite being FFVII, which is pretty impressive, I think.

Grade: A

Gordon Freeman - I said Gordon Freeman would finish closer to Peach than he would to Tifa. Looks like that one's still going to hold true. Looks like he's not quite as strong as some of us thought, and the Gamespot contest didn't do much for him.

Grade: D

Princess Peach - Nobody cares about Peach. Nobody. And yet she still did well against Gordon. Gotta be the wink.

Tails got lucky to face a bigger turd than he was. And Shadow doesn't look quite so bad in retrospect, which makes me feel sad since it seems like that makes him the #2 Sonic Team member and probably by a decent margin.

I'd take knuckles over shadow without hesitation. Sonic team looks a lot better than previously thought btw. Amaterasu has some nice strength. Lightning was unknown. I find it odd that people believe she is a weakling.

I get the feeling that one would have shifted a lot since 2003. Back then, it probably would have gone Magus > Crono > Frog > Others. Now Crono wins in a landslide and Magus/Frog is pretty close.

Chaos - Nice win for GlaDoS, Ken/Wesker was excellent, Knucles WTH? Perfect here.
Hyrule - My worst R1 division, but tempered by a great Cube win. Sux for red only squeaking it.
Midgar - I didn't realize how many dull stretches there were...
Gear - Same as Midgar. I just... don't care.
Varia - Perfect and nothing interesting, maybe Ratchet?
Mushroom - Perfect again, but does anyone care about these R1 matches?

I didn't say enjoyable! That was one of the most painful matches for me ever, it most certainly was NOT ENJOYABLE. But it was probably the best first round match ever, nonetheless.

Dante > Cloud: ITS HAPPENING

Dante - After Ryu's performance on Balthier had everyone talking about how good he was looking going into that round 2 matchup, Dante goes out and puts up a great performance of his own. He was even outdoing Mega Man's performance on Axel in 2006 for a little while before the KH ASV brought it down. Even at the end, it was a strong performance, and Dante gave me my first #1 Oracle prediction ever! Huzzah!

Grade: A

Yay Dante winning star of the division! I think he would have even beaten Mega Man's performance on Axel if it were a 24 hour match. Cool round 1 summary overall too.
